How about putting up a picture (you & the White Stag!!) so as punters don't get you two mixed up!

We loved this place. We visited as a couple with our baby daughter in the afternoon and had a great lunch in the nicely-done restaurant at the back, washed down with some good local ales. They had a delicious Italian meatball-style pasta and decent puds for afters. The people running it seemed like good folk as well. Definitely one to go out of your way to visit.

I have to agree with the other posters - what a cracking place. I once popped into this pub a few years back and it could only be described as more spit than sawdust. Gasping for a beer after a long walk it was the first place I happened upon and I was only planning on a quick one. I couldn't believe the transformation - its gone from a sow's ear to a silk purse. After a few very good Otters and a great pint of Guinness we were lucky enough to get a table. The food is top notch and locally sourced - the staff were more than happy to let me know as was the Chef who I cornered after a great meal. If you are ever in the area make a beeline for this place, I know I will next time I am down in Devon. Top Marks.

Nice atmosphere and really personal and homely-feeling interior. The food is something to remember -creative and extremely welltasting. I shall not forget the doublebaked chocolatecakes and the tiramisu(yes I had two desserts that evening, but it was my birthday).

Tourist from Sweden posting my humble review - we visited not long ago, two adults and two kids. Mind you - it is not always easy to find a restaurant, that all family members will enjoy. My kids have never been to happy eating anything from the sea, but this place got them starting, I guess we owe a special thanks to the chef.
For starters we had mussels in an incredible cider sauce, both kids loved it. My wife had the lamb as the main dish, and I had pasta in truffle sauce - delicious as hell. Friendly staff, great place to take the kids... White Horse is simply the best place for eating in the area. Over the years we have been many places that area (we have relatives in Devon) but the white horse I will enjoy returning to. Keep the mussels on the menu...

A fantastic place for a evening out with family and friends. The White horse has been transformed over the last couple of years into what can only be described as a romantic, charming and elegant drinking and eating place.
The staff are very helpful, friendly and more then happy to cater for everyone.
They offer the most delicious homemade, fresh food ( Not recommended for anyone watching their weight! A real treat.) Obviously the chef has a passion for food, and is willing to share it.
All in all, a great place to enjoy food and good company!

When I moved to Morton 3 years ago I felt what I was really missing was somewhere which served good food with an emphasis on local and seasonal produce and as if by magic the Whitehorse became transformed from a rough and ready boozer to somewhere which doesn't just serve 'good' food - it's fantastic, the attention to detail, presentation and quality is rarely surpassed, competition in the area will have felt the sting. I can see that the kitchens, eating areas and courtyard have seen a huge investment resulting in a delightful environment and from what I've been told only the 1st phase, the front bar area whilst greatly improved from the previous incumbents era is due a complete refit and a following 3rd phase seeing the reinstatement of hotel rooms.
There's been countless nights where I've enjoyed fab food, live music and a thronging bar,and as with any pub there'll be quite nights. Overall this is a real jewel and well worth a booking a table.

This is a charming, old pub which I have visited twice after walks on the moor. It is getting better and better. Now that the restaurant at the back is up and running, I would recommend it to anyone who loves hearty, fabulous food made with the best ingredients available and by someone who both knows how to cook and loves cooking. It is incredible that you can find Mediterranean cooking at such a high standard tucked away in this village; this place is really worth a visit. The interior of the restaurant is unfussy, modern and charming, and there is a great courtyard as well for outdoor eating. And yes, the pub itself is at the front of the house, more traditional in style, and as far as I can tell, serves good beers (admittedly not my strong point). But for the quality of food at very reasonable prices this place ought to be packed every night!

Apparently the pub has just been given entry into the Michelin Guide 2009. After eating there we can see why. Whilst we were being shown to our table we noticed that Antonio Carluccio was sitting opposite tucking into a bowl of fresh pasta. Probably the best food we have eaten in the last two years, and we dine out regularly. Go!

Great pub for food and a nice atmosphere - have to say we didn't receive unfriendly service at all, when I asked about what was in one of the dishes the chef took the trouble to come out and explain it and you get the feeling they really care about the food. It has changed a lot over the last few years, but I've never been into smoky drinking dens anyway so I'm quite happy about the makeover. And they do a great Otter!

Please be under no illusion that The White Horse is a pub. It is a restaurant with a bar area. Popped in last week for to get a drink and something to eat on my wedding anniversary. We were ingnored by at least 4 members of staff who preferred to spend their time fawning over somebody else obviously far more important than me or my husband. At least five minutes after our arrival, somebody actually condescended to acknowledge us. I asked if they had a table for two. He asked my name. I explained that I hadn't booked - it was a weekday, after all. He looked at me as if I'd farted in church. Ilive locally and have had a decent meal and some good pints here before but on the basis of the appallingly unwelcoming level of service, I shall not go back.

Uninspiring pub with offish female bar person, there are better pubs in the village.

I popped into the "White Horse Inn" last week, for some liquid refreshment, after a thirsty walk in blazing sunshine earlier (thats unusual for the UK..!) The night was still young, but the pub was empty, apart from 4 young locals at the bar. A bad sign for any visitor! I checked out the new restaurant area down a step and going from the back of the pub, it looked nicer & newer than the main bar area, but the half-dozen or so diners soon left, and at 10pm the place did feel deserted. Then the 4 locals were joined by a man and his dog, and they all went outside for a smoke...! That left just the two of us in the whole place!! Even the plump young barmaid deserted us..! I finished my pint (almost!) and we left at 10.45pm. We heard the front (main) door locked behind us as we stepped onto the pavement. Not quite the hub of the universe then...!! The piped music was awful, garage..or R+B..or something, I'm not sure what..!! 4/10 TJ

The new works at the back of this place look smashing but you have to enter through the bar which is still a bit of a slum.Used to be a warm, friendly bar 40 years ago, now, with all the walls removed its like a rural bus station. The woman behind the bar wouldn't get a job with Billy Butlin (Fun king). Such a pity. Do the front up, make some money, do upstairs up and open the hotel side again. The town is full of walkers desperate for accommodation.

I'm not sure about the last comment. The first problem I found had to be overcome was how to get into the place. Having gained entry I had to make my way past assorted builders' gear to get into the bar where I was confronted by a set-up apparently either left over from or ready to accommodate live music (it was about mid-day).
At this point I decided this wasn't the place for me, and without sampling either beer or food I retreated to the Union up the road.
Perhaps I'll give it another try next time I'm in the area.

This has now undergone its refurbishment and has to be seen to be believed. The decor is in keeping with the building, the food is superb (restaurant quality), service is excellent. Good variety of dishes with a mediterranean feel, plenty of vegetarian options, seafood, childrens meals. Highly recommended.

A proper pub with friendly locals - great.
However, the place is in a state of disrepair (apparently there is going to be some sort of refit in the coming months - This is needed, but I hope they don't ruin the place by ripping its soul out.
