Marston's pub in the main pedestrianized shopping area of the High Street in Bromsgrove. It was fairly quiet, as all of the shops had shut on our early Sunday evening visit, apart from a bookmakers. The regular beers are Banks's Mild & Bitter. Guests were Marston's 61 Deep & Old Empire, Ringwood Boon Doggle & Brakspear Oxford Gold. No real cider is available. There is a small outdoor courtyard at the rear.

Came simply because it is in the top 10 in worcestershire on this site.
Busy at lunch. Bar man knew everyone by name. Decent pint of Ringwood FortyNiner.
Proper pub.

Decent beers, was packed when we called in. They had a band on, which given the size of the place seems pretty ambitious, but the band were good and clearly popular. Struggled to get served though, only one or two people behind the bar all night and one of those seemed to always serve the newest person to the bar.

A group of us decided to try the Red Lion this saturday, im so glad we did. what a fantastic night it was very busy and everyone enjoyed the music , a great selection of songs from the resident DJ which kept everyone singing all night. the beer was good and the staff friendly. Great pub will be using every weekend from now on.

Like the beers on tap here, always a decent selection well served.
Atmosphere less so, the music/radio they've had on the last two times was too loud for my taste (and pretty awful to boot). When you can't talk over it there is no fun in staying. Garden/outside area is okay though so this has become a fair weather only pub for me now.

Went in about 2 weeks ago and what a transformation. Gone from wine bar (i.e. creche) chic back to a trad pub with great real ale and allows dogs in.
Best pub on the High Street.

Visited recently as the place is under new ownership and getting good reviews. Fairly busy but managed a table so we stopped for a couple of rounds. Beers from the Marstons portfolio and they were well kept and well presented. The refurb has opened the pub up a bit more and it is looking like a boozer now. Might be a few too many nooks and crannies for the cleaner though.
Only two gripes; stools around the bar when it is busy and the TV being on too LOUD (There was little conversation in the top end of the pub and we certainly wouldn't have stayed if that were the only table, no matter how good the beer was)

Went in a couple of weeks ago for a quick lunchtime pint and despite a very loud and frankly common group who, thankfully, left I was impressed by the return to the traditional decor and the real ale on tap.
Will be going again today for a Sunday lunchtime drink.

Choice of Four decent beers in the Red Lion this evening, most impresive. well run with friendly service and fair prices. Currently the best pub in the town centre I'd say.
|
Called in last week following a recent refurbishment of both the inside and outside of the pub. Both are much improved on how they were. The trend for pine following the last refit took a lot of the atmosphere out of the pace and made it seem to empty and quiet. Its now darker inside but more intimate.
Was a bit dissapointed at the choice of beers, three ales on, which was good, but the pub now seems to be a Marstons pub and as such no longer seems to be selling local ales but only national ones. Still, was a very nice pint all the same.
Given the friendly service and the fact no other pub on the high street seems bothered about its customers I'll certainly be returning.

Seems to have changed hands since I was last there.
A nice range and choice of beers still but the TVs were all on showing afternoon daytime tv with the sound on loud, If I wanted to watch rubbish television I would stay at home and watch it. We went outside to drink in the end.

great pub<what a refreshing change. the owners are very polite and helpfull.FOOD IS A1. THE REAL ALE IN THIS PUB IS SECOND TO NONE. WILL BE GOING BACK THERE WHENEVER I AM IN THE TOWN.
|
Not sure about the makeover but then again I like old time boozers.
The beers are excellent and I have eaten here regularly with no complaints.
|
Not sure the pine makeover was a good idea. Called in over christmas though and a very good range of ales with friendly bar staff. Nice to see one proper pub left in the high street.
|
Haven't been inside over the last few months. Was thae last 'true' pub in Bromsgrove.
Was a shame when they decked out the inside in pine and added tvs, that lost it some of its character. Always has had a good selection of ales in the past.
|
Following a change of management this boozer has fallen on hard times. Beer selection poor and quality even worse.
A sad loss on the High Street
|
Small real ale pub with the best tasting pint we quaffed in Bromsgrove all weekend, 8/10
|
Decent boozer but not as good as it was I'm afraid. Range of ales is good and from some quite small breweries too but the quality hass dipped recently. Also the opening times seem to be a bit inconsistent.
|
lovely lovely pub offering a very good selection of ales AND the best pork scratchings in the known world.
|
Still the consistently best pint in Bromsgrove. The beer festival mentioned below was fantastic, the next beer festival is from 16/7 till 19/7....miss it at your peril.
|
A hospitable pub which serves excellent real ales with which to wash down the reasonably priced and superb home-made food. Many of the 'regulars' have now gone on to the 'hostillery in the sky' and you will often wish that the lanky long-haired toffee-nosed scouse would join them (wink!!) Regular Beer festivals used to be held, not sure if this is still the case. Multi CAMRA award winner

Excellent town centre pub, with a good selection of regularly changing guest ales. 2007 refurb has improved it significantly. Richard is a very congenial host.
|
Richard and Mini have worked hard to give us the best pub in Bromsgrove. Great little town centre boozer with 7 handpumps in action. "This pub will never sell smoothpour" may have been moved but the ethos lives on.
|
Very friendly pub, The real ales were excellent, had a right giggle with the old regulars and the staff were absoloutly gorgeous!
|
A superb range of real ales. A town centre pub worthy of a visit. It gets smokey, but undercover seating outside. Friendly atmosphere.
|
A proper old-fashioned drinker's pub in the town centre. Excellent beer and a strange mixture of people. Well worth a visit.
|
Great pub, super atmosphere. Beer is kept very well by an attentive landlord who spends a lot of time talking to the customers on their side of the bar.
