Visited on a Saturday lunchtime and had an excellent lunch with a good selection of ales. Will be certain to return next time I'm here.

Pints of Proper Job and Abingdon Bridge went down well on a saturday night one February. The building used to be part of the new sadly defunct Morland's brewery and has pleasing nooks and crannies as well as reputedly good food. The one problem is Abingdon's tendency to attract aggression and the pub's location - a little too near to a notoriously absymal nightclub.

Went in last night and the food stops at 3pm. Went to the Broadface to eat but came back here to drink. Welcoming bar staff and comfortable bar with a real fire.

Dropped in Saturday lunchtime as it was on our cycle route. Always wary of GK, but this is indeed a good pub. Not cheap, but tried 4 of the six ales on and they were all very good. Friendly bar staff too. Food was fine and well presented. It was quiet when we were there so it was all very comfortable.

Now that's a good pub!

For a Greene King pub I was very suprised to see all the guest Ales. They are apparently not allowed to sell the Local Loose cannon beer which is a shame. LIke a small independant Brewery is going to dent Greene Kings 300 million pound anual profits!!!

There's something about this pub. It does serve a lot of lager, it can be quite pricey and, yes, the weekends are rowdy, but it gets away with it by virtue of its interesting guest ales and its good service. There's also a range of areas in which to sit and stand, so you can easily find a quieter spot if you're worried about pint spillage.

Good little pub, but I do think it has become a victim of its' own success. I've not been in during the last couple of years and it seems OK during the day, but gets pretty rowdy in the evening and you spend the entire time trying not to accidentally knock into people - especially as you get a look of 'did you spill my pint' on the way back from the loo! OK choice of beers, seems to focus on quite trendy, pricey lagers - 3+ for a pint of Peroni. But the bar staff seem friendly and once you're seated the atmosphere is good.

Referring to the previous review, the range of real ales should expand very soon as the manager from the Stocks bar has just become the licensee here. He is planning to install more hand pumps and introduce regular beer festivals as he did at the Stocks.

This is a good little pub which is well run. Food's ok. Service fine and friendly when I went in. Too many lagers and not enough real ale, but what they do serve is very good. Busy at the weekends...

One of the better pubs in Abingdon, and the only one in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. It generally seems to attract a more mature type of customer as it has just that little bit more class than most of the other town centre pubs. Usually a choice of four real ales, two or three from the Greene King stable (yawn!) and one or two guests. I had a very good pint of Batemans XXXB Tuesday evening at 2.95 a pint. A little expensive for the lagers (3.30 for an Amstel - ouch!). I haven't eaten here but the food has a good reputation although they don;t appear to do evening meals. The pub is always pretty busy however getting served is never much of a problem. There is a small garden patio area out the back. Couple of TVs' but often these are switched off and are never intrusive. They run a popular quiz night on a tuesday when you do well to get a seat. Basically a good pub for a relaxing drink.

The beer quality seems to be going downhill. It's a lovely pub, good staff, good music, but if you are after good real ale it's a bit poor. The beer is very samey, the lack of head reminds me of watered down university bar beer. If they had a better beer range, this place would be awesome, but at present too greene king-esque. They once had a beer festival and the combo of not normally stocked beers and the building was excellent. Giving it a 5 - could be a 9/10 with better beer.

Always busy, with a nice friendly clientele. Very good selection of real ales and whiskies. Food very good too. Highly recommended.

Great lunchtime menu. It's only bar snacks, such as sandwiches, bageuttes, potatoes etc., but the range is really innovative. It's not often you go to a pub which only does that kind of thing and it still takes you ages to decide because you want half the menu! The quality when it arrived was very good too.
Also, our experience with the barmaids the day we were there was very good. They were friendly, efficient and good humoured.

Still a good pub with a lively atmosphere but let down by poor service from barmaids (at the least the ones I have come across).
A little more 'please and thank you' wouldn't do any harm. And you don't need to throw the change back!

Great Pub, with an impressive selection of 4 well kept real ales, and a good sociable atmosphere. If you are on the Thames walk it is well worth seeking this one out, even though it is a little way from the River.

Truely the finest place to drink in Abingdon, never a hint of trouble ( which is rare in abingdon!) and super staff.
|
Fantastic pub. Staff are great and really friendly.
Food is only served at lunchtime (although up to 3:30pm) and is always fantasic, really good menu and excellent quality (local where they can) produce is used.
Does get quite smokey on a Friday / Saturday night and the drinks are not cheap - but that keeps out the riff-raff!!!
Great jukebox - we spend a fortune in that alone every visit.

It's now one of the most expensive pubs in town, however the selection of ales and largers justify it. Always a nice atmosphere and friendly staff, highly recommended

This pub has the best cider in Abingdon (at least as far as I'm aware!). Although hellishly busy on a Friday or Saturday night, it's a great pub. Highly recommended.

Best pub by far in the centre of town. Beer is always dependable and the atmosphere good
