Blimey I discovered this place in July for first time, never even knew it existed(and i lived in nearby Yatton for 3 years!). Lovely Hall & Woodhouse owned pub with a delightful pint of Badger "Hopping Hare" quaffed,in my books this is without a doubt the best pub in Nailsea. 8/10

This is a very extensive pub with several different areas as well as a good sized patio at the front and a small, adjacent kids play area. As you go in to the main door youre now faced with a carvery counter which I always find slightly off-putting in a pub. This used to be the main bar with the carvery counter further down towards the restaurant which seemed entirely logical, but for some reason these have now swapped places. This bar is reasonably attractive with a flagstone floor. To the left past the smaller bar counter is the restaurant area in a converted barn which is a decent enough spot with a high vaulted ceiling. To the right is a cosier, carpeted room with a large stone built fireplace at one end, the main bar counter and a TV perched on the window sill that looked a little out of place. Beyond this there is a further seating area up a few steps.

The service at the bar was unfortunately pretty much non-existent on a recent Wednesday evening. The first time I went to the bar there were two punters in front of me and nobody serving. After a couple of minutes someone tuned up, but it was some time before I got served due to an apparent problem with the whisky. The conversation went something like this
Punter Can I have a house double whisky please.
Barmaid Sorry, theres only enough left in the bottle for a single
Punter OK, Ill have a single then please
Barmaid You cant have a single, that one is priced as a double.
Punter (shrugs in exasperation) OK, just give me a single and Ill pay for a double.
The next time I went to the bar there were three people waiting and nobody serving. At this point I gave up and went elsewhere.

Having said that, the barmaid was pleasant enough, and undeniably attractive. Whether she was dressed appropriately or not is another matter a tight black dress that barely covered her arse might be OK in a trendy city centre venue, but for somewhere in the middle of a residential area that bills itself as a great family pub, it looked a little out of place. But then maybe Im just getting old.

Beers on this occasion were Hopping Hare, Sussex Bitter, Badger and Tanglefoot. Ciders were Blackthorn and Stowford Press.

The food was found to be quite reasonable on a recent visit, although I appreciate blue_monkey100's comments about the salad. A lasagne came with a similarly miserable selection of brown around the edge lettuce leaves.

On the plus side, the portions were quite generous (although the lasagne was perhaps a little light on meat), and the beer battered cod came in two decent sized portions. Not bad I thought, for meals around the 7/8 mark. Staff were friendly and it was very busy on a Saturday night.

Beers on this ooccasion were Hopping Hare, Badger and Tanglefoot. Good choice of ciders now on the bar with Blackthorn, Stowford Press and Thatcher's Traditional. Also an extensive range of bottled Thatcher's cider.

I visited The Old Farmhouse for lunch after reading the positive reviews on this site and good word of mouth... there were eight people in the whole pub including ourselves we both had the spinach & ricotta cannelloni for 7.95 - the menu didn't state that it came with anything so we asked at the bar if it came with a salad and the answer was yes. The meals came out 35 minutes later despite the fact that the only other food order on was a table of four!! Not only this but the 'salad' that we were told came with the cannelloni turned out to be three leaves of lettuce & three croutons!! We would have happily paid an extra 2.00 for a salad if necessary but we were disappointed with the sorry excuse of a 'meal' we received for 8.00! Not overally impressed!

Under new ownership since august 2009, the Old Farmhouse has found a new lease of life under the managers Marianne & Monty and their team, they are keen to prove to everyone that their local is back and now we're open all day and serving food throughout as well.

The food offer is traditional with all your favorites, including a sensational grill and pie section. it's also Exceptional value for money, download our menu today from the website. Sunday sees the return of the famous farmhouse carvery at only 8.45 for adults and 3.95 for kids.

We have just launched our brand new "Farmer Smiths" Kids menu with a great choice of all their favorites and toys to collect as well.

We're really keen to show you we know what we're doing and hope you pop in soon to see for yourself.

we also offer a great range of thatchers ciders at increadable prices

It's very difficult to write a review of this pub since the layout of it and the food seems to be continually changing. I went in there less than a month ago and found that the old barn area which used to be the restaurant had been made in to a much more relaxed drinking area with a number of sofa's and a pool table. This can be seen in Image-4 above, which I believe has been uploaded quite recently. I thought this was very nice, it is after all a pub, not a restaurant. The food was really good and well priced.
I went in there again this week and found that all that's gone, and it's now back to being a more formal restaurant area. They've covered up the lovely flagstone floor with some cheap and tacky wooden flooring which flexes alarmingly as you walk in from the garden. The menu's completly different and seems somewhat pricier than it was (eg; a tenner for a cheese-burger with bacon).
On the plus side, most of the staff seem very helpful and friendly, the drinking area's of the pub are still pretty good and I would say it's still one of the best pubs for food in Nailsea. I think the most recent changes are as a result of new owners, it is now a sister pub to the Upton Inn (Upton Cheyney).

You've got to hand it to these guys, they certainly havent stopped trying to make the place better since they arrived. It would appear that they have finally got it right and full credit to them, It cant be an easy time to be running a Pub. Ate at the Farmhouse with friends the other evening and were really impressed by the New Summer Menu, we all had a cracking meal and are returning for a repeat next week. The Pub has been split in two but really well. It certainly does cater for everyone now and looks great outside to boot. We even managed a game of Pool (Yes Pool!!) after the meal - its in the Pub end (They call it the Old Barn). It was really a pleasant atmosphere. Great Staff and locals alike.. Well Done

Lovely pub, but only if you are prepared to accept small children running around the pub making a noise. I am very happy to have children in pubs I am a parent myself but only as long as they do not disturb other guests. Unfortunately my experience at this local pub was disturbed not only by a very noisy child, but also by his father who did not seem to appreciate that everyone who visits the pub is entitled to enjoy themselves, not just his family. It was even more unfortunate that the manager agreed with the father, even though it was contrary to a previous conversation we had had with the licensee on another occasion. As far as we are concerned, definitely a place to be avoided shame, as the location and the pub itself are lovely.

5 of us ate here a few nights ago (24 Feb 2009). We had 4 different starters, 1 had to be sent back as it tasted awful, the soup tasted of salt and nothing else, and the other 2 starters were ok. We had 5 different main courses. The quality was better than the starters, but were all over priced. Hardly any of the food arrived piping hot. 2 deserts were ordered, which were fine and were both worth the price. The Coffee arrived luke warm and was sent back. All items that were sent back were removed from the bill. The service was poor. 2 of our party were ill a few hours later (the soup) and we would never eat there again.

This is worth revisiting for anyone who hasn't been there in the last couple of months. Rather than being a fairly mixed food & drink pub, is now has quite seperate areas for each.
The left hand end is now a dedictaed dining area, along with the bit where the carvery counter used to me. It's table service, so you don't have to order at the bar (lie you should in a pub!). The young staff are all very friendly. They've also put some big sofa's at the front of this area, presumably so you can peruse the menu before ordering.
The right hand end is now just for drinking, with the addition of a dart board and some more sofa's.
The food is perhaps still a tad pricey, but it's well worth checking out.

Nice pub, serves excellent food. Some of the real ales are expensive for the area.
