Friendly pub. Good range of beers. Nice back garden (in the summer) with view of the cathedral. Good value food because the portions are quite large.

Last 2 visits, soo quiet and it's a shame because it is clean, friendly, dog friendly too, great bar staff, nice ale and food looked good but it seems to be overlooked. I wish it well as landlord is trying hard.

Huge pub, with hardly anyone in it early on a Saturday night. There was an interesting band on at 9pm but we had a table booked - so had to move on.

Very quiet, but reasonably large Wadworth pub. There was only 1 other customer on my Thursday evening visit. It does feel a little away for the Salisbury 'action'. But I would guess it is busier at weekends. Beers on were St George & The Dragon, 6X & Henry's IPA. Ciders were from Westons - Old Rosie & Rosie's Pig. The landlord was friendly.

Nice old style pub with a very cosy front bar area and a more utilitarian but much larger rear section. Beer was OK - Ale seemed well kept and clear but the choice of cooking lager was a little disappointing. As mentioned before - very sad to see a place as nice as this with so much potential so empty on a Friday night. Barman was very friendly as were all our fellow if few other patrons.

I don't understand why this pub isn't busier, its been fairly quiet whenever I have visited. The ale is well kept (though Waddies isn't my fav) and I am told the food is pretty good too. Maybe the New Inn and Cosy have dented its trade?

After much research and avoiding the now rather tired and overrated 'Doom Bar' we found this piece of Wadworthshire in the heart of Salisbury. Our visit was on a Saturday lunchtime and although quite quiet however it gave us a chance to talk to the Landlord about his beers and 'The Windmill' on Clapham Common. All in all an excellent way of spending some time. Food requires a mention as it was good wholesale pub fayre with the cheesey chips and bacon a first for us

Great pub used both during the day and evening over xmas good for both relaxing and having a meal but also lively on band nights. Great vibe with great people

Visited with Shandychica on Saturday night.
Fairly quiet. I suspect this is a place that you "Go on from".
However Beer selection was good. The Henry's IPA was very drinkable.
Didn't get a chance to sample the food as the kitchen was closed.
But nice enough place.
Watch out for the low ceiling. The barman had to walk at a stoop
to collect the empties.
We also met the pub dog. I suspect that they get very little trouble when the dog enters the room!. But he was friendly, especially when offered a few crisps.

This picturesque 15th century tavern started life as 2 cottages for servants at the nearby Cathedral (the Haunch of Venison also had a similar beginning). The small and cosy front bar is fairly quaint with comfortable seats, a large brick fireplace and numerous oak beams. The main bar is in the middle of the pub where a spectacular fireplace takes centre stage. In keeping with the pub�s name, pictures of judges in their legal garb and a court gavel can be found around the bar. To the rear is a lighter and mory airy extension with a conservatory feel to it. This leads to the attractive crazy paved beer garden with shrubs down one side and, if you crane your neck, a glimpse of the Cathedral. 4 Wadworths ales available on my visit � Henry�s IPA, Horizon, 6X and Bishops Tipple and I found the prices more than reasonable. The staff were friendly and welcoming and, despite being fairly early in the afternoon, I got the impression that this is the sort of pub that would convey a pleasant atmosphere at most times. It is certainly worth a visit if in town.

Very comfy pub on a cold day when we stopped in. The beers wre fair but nothing great in my opinion. My wife loved the Stowford Press cider to her usual Strongbow, however. The barmaid was friendly but we didn't feel inclined to hang around very long.

OK, so it's not the most expensive pub in Salisbury - that title goes to the New Inn by a large margin.

Beer was OK, but you can get better cheaper in many other Salisbury pubs. I am still happy to drink here, though.

What a great pub! Fantastic ales and nice food. Maybe not the cheapest food, but it was nice. The building has charm and the staff were very friendly. Recommended!

What a lovely, warm, friendly traditional Pub - It's like home from home with open fires with soft comfy chairs. After siteseeing in Salisbury i found this the perfect place to relax and get warm with some good food & welcoming atmosphere. THANK YOU!

Visited salisbury last weekend and after doing some shopping i came across New Street. After trying a few pubs down this road i came accross The Wig & Quill. As someone who appreciates a good pint of Real Ale i was more than satisfied with what was on offer. With 5 ales on and 2 from wooden barrels the choice is amazing. If i thought the choice was good this was nothing compared to the quality. I have to say that the few pints i had in there were probably the best i had in Salisbury!

Popped into the Wig and Quill whilst out shopping with a friend found the pub friendly, lunch was good and the 6x was superb and also there was a great selection of wines. Will definately go back again.

Cannot understand the comments by "avoid at all costs".
The pub carries a full range of well kept Wadworth beers, as well as a guest beer, at least two different lagers on tap and a good cider. Who wants a cold real ale........only an american!! You can see the spire from the garden.......allow the publican a little poetic licence in his/her advertising.

Very disappointing. Food luke warm and inadequate. My son only got his meal when everyone else had finished - and then it was stone cold! Would not recommend.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Our visit to this pub while driving throught this great city was quite disappointing. The beer was warm and they dont have a large selection of beverages. The food was even worse as the soup was cold, the butter had gone off, and the salads were missing ingredients listed on the menu. They also falsely advertise a view of the cathedral from their garden, as the small garden is surrounded by two story houses and tall walls with no view at all.
Being spoilt for chioce there are plenty of nice pubs in the area. Dont make the mistake we did and avoiding this one if possible.

Went here for Sunday lunch, but the pub was practically deserted. Oh well, no competition for tables in the small sunny garden then.
Pub still good - nice beer, friendly staff. Food was good and quite reasonably priced. I like it here.
Note to johnkn7 - you may be getting mixed up with the New Inn up the road which does have a bar facing you as you go in.

Well kept Wadsworth ales but staff seemed a bit vague and distant. Did the bar used to be facing you as you opened the door as I have a vague recollection of coming here years (decades?) ago and it seems different?

Hadn't been here for some years and was pleased to see that not much had changed. It was a lunchtime visit so the pub was practically empty.
We sat in the courtyard garden which was pleasant and the plants and flowers were well tended - our young children enjoyed it too.
The beers were well-kept apart from one that was obviously nearing the end of the barrel and was about to be changed.
We had some food too and this was generally OK although the home made beefburgers were a bit dry and tough - they tasted good though. A friend and I had ordered banoffee pie but we were told they'd run out of bananas. The staff then offered to go and buy some for us since we weren't in a hurry. We agreed and it was certainly worth the wait - one of the best desserts I've ever tasted.
My only small criticism was that there weren't any high chairs for the young kids - they are really useful.
Definitely would recommend this pub - I will be back when I'm next in Salisbury.

Fine pint of Summersault and my partners half of Bishop's Tipple was good, too. It is true that, as they say outside, there is a view of the spire from the beer garden if you're prepared to stand to the left....
Ahscum should go back for the food now - nothing too fancy but good pub standards well cooked. I had the a really good beefburger.

Very nice pub. Not the greatest smooth bitter on tap but still a nice venue.

A warm welcome is assured at this fime Wadsworth establishment. Three Waddy's beers on tap - including 6x from the wood- plus one guest, currently Smiles Heritage with berrs from St Austell to follow. Paul, the owner has been there for 6 months and is planning to start doing food in February. Comfy chairs abound and an open fire too!
