Improved on the ale front - had two Portobello brews and two redemption brews as well as the GK dross. The Redemption brews were not bad though it's still somewhere to drop in for a swift pint before a train rather than a destination pub.

Have been coming in here on and off for years mainly to watch sport; has always probably as right next to Euston station been pretty busy down the years for Liverpool games (my team).
It has tidied itself up somewhat down the years. Less scruffy and probably less rowdy/loud as well. The beer quality has also improved quite a lot down the years. Always been happy with the service in here as well.
That said I am surprised it is in the GBG as well. Beer quality is reasonable, and range OK in my view; neither are amazing though. I also can't go above 6/10 as the prices are I agree taking the piss now for the sort of pub this is.
Doric Arch and Bree Louise are certainly better pubs in the area; for the sport/football to me it's a 50/50 between here and the Euston Flyer (which is no cheaper really beer price wise than here) in the area.
The GBG throws up some surprises. Just how did a Chainy Greene King get in the Bible?
It had two extra beers over the usual Greene King range - and I went for a decent Sambrooks Junction but didn't appreciate paying £4.95 for the privilege.
Music far too loud, chainy feel and much better options in the area.

Lovely Veggie fish and chips here. Good pub, nice ales but at times terrible staff and a real lack of sitting space. Too busy most evenings.
Maybe the best pub in Euston, it does however often get too packed in the evenings to be worth it. The fish and chips is good though.
£6.82 for a pint and a half? That's taking the piss even by London standards. Adequate beer, crowded dull surroundings. Avoid. Go across the road to the Doric Arch at the front of Euston Station. Much greater choice of delicious beers with a 15% Camra discount.
Right next to a major rail and tube station and taking advantage of those too busy / lazy to look a little further. Other nearby pubs can charge about £4 for a pint so why is a perfectly ordinary bitter £4.60 here? Ordinary decor and food don't justify the price. Get's my vote as the worst pub in this area
A large pub with a centre bar inside the door and two rooms either side with plenty of TVs on the walls- handy for watching sport! A downside to that is it can get a bit rowdy!
There were quite a few real ales available mainly from London breweries. I had a Sambrook which was ok though not as good as I would have expected from a pub in the CAMRA good beer guide. Whilst I was at the bar another customer took his beer back complaining about the taste.
Overall I wasn't too impressed with the place and would suggest if someone wanted to watch sport in a pub to use the Euston Flyer not too far away. The beer may not be as varied but the quality is better and the pub is not as scruffy as the George.
Popped in tonight for a quick half whilst waiting for a train from Euston. I ordered a Southwark Bankside Blonde with what I thought would be more than sufficient spare change. It wasn't. After an awkward minute or two I spotted a barely visible CAMRA 10% discount sign on a column alongside the bar, obscured by a punter. I was then able to purchase the beer with the change that I had. I worry that the CAMRA discount is a bit of a price rhetoric, as the non-discount price seemed grossly over-inflated.
Nevertheless, the beer was particularly good, which I suppose is what it's all about, really.
Popped in on Sunday tea-time after my train back from Preston. The George as I have always known it is busy outside with a few groups but it’s empty inside however it still took too long to be served !
6 hand pumps with 4 ales on, 3 of them were locales. I went for Hackney Breweries Red Ale @ 4.1%, it’s a decent drop of ale.
Now a Taylor Walker pub and has recently been added to the Camra GBG, it’s not bad but not much better than the last time I was here which was several years ago.
I had a couple of pints here on a very wet day while waiting for my hotel check in time. It appears this year's fashion is to offer early check in for an extra 10 quid & I figured that 10 quid worth of beer was a better proposition. London Pride @ 4.50, friendly & efficient bar persons in a mildly busy pub. Pint price was a bit high for the location & ambience but at least I was dry & Premier didn't get an extra tenner.
Had meal there. Fish and chips. The fish was raw and cold in middle. When reported the bar staff said I'm busy mate. Eat round it and next time il get you a free drink. Totally disgusted by lack of concern and attitude. Would not recommend and will not revisit.
Busy, reasonable beer, averagely uninterested service. There was a time when such a pub would have been a highlight of the area around Euston but now there are so many that are worth seeking out anywhere that wants more than passing trade or customers who know no better has to up their game if they want repeat business.
Sports pub, several screens showing a variety of things. Pricey food but can recommend the pies. 6/10
went in before the rugby league challenge cup final 2013.stop in for 2 hours.dont know what beer i had.friends buying my round of drinks due to a food injury. found the beer a good cask ale and my friends were served quickly inside a packed pub
Very average. As others as have alluded to, given the decent choice of pubs in the area there aren't many reasons to come here. We did because we'd already been to The Bree Louise, and The Tap was rammed. In its favour, it does have a big screen and a few big TVs, and their commitment to showing football was evidenced by their showing of some Copa Del Rey match on one feed and Sky Sports news on another.
This pub must be under new management since last coming here I'm 2010. Good selection of cask ales and they actually have exciting guest rotation which makes for a more interesting selection then when I came last.
Had a quick half of London Pride and got served by a sullen tatooed girl " 2 pound" she barked.Returned 2 hours later after my appointment and had another half of Pride. This time it was 1-90.Strange.Many better pubs in the area compared to this poor excuse for a pub.
An absolute dive of a place. Everyone is served in whichever order someone shouts the loudest, and saw the "herman"of the bar, clean up, and then pack the bin down with his hands, then continue serving without washing. Avoid like the plague
This really is a bit of a dump. On my last visit, it was quite quiet and wasn't too bad. But on a busy Saturday night when it is packed with football fans, it's not the nicest place to be. The toilets in particular are shocking. If you've ever seen the film Trainspotting, you'll get the idea. Youngs London Gold, Greene King IPA, Abbot & Old Speckled Hen & Wells Bombardier pumpclips were displayed. But I'm not sure all were on. With the Doric Arch, Mabels, the Bree Louise and the Euston Tap all nearby, I doubt I'll be here again anytime soon.
EPA was ok toilets shocking
This place reeks.
The only greater stench than that emanating from the gents' toilets, is that given off by the obnoxious attitude of the odious bar staff.
Marginally better than what you would expect from a pub close to a mainline station (would have gone in to the Doric only it was closed). Open plan kind of place with some ales on. Tried the Young's Gold which weren't particularly nice. There are far better places around the vicinity of the station.

In a breathtaking act of vandalism by the company who own this pub (spirit group/Punch taverns) the original 1930s wood panels on either side of the 2 old fireplaces have been removed. Not only is this crass vandalism but they were actually listed and were not allowed to be removed. Not sure whether this was ignorance or arrogance on Spirit/Punchs' part.Having worked for this outfit in the past either is possible.North London CAMRA have reported this to Camden Council but Camden want to see photos of when they were up.If anyone happens to have any photos of them please send them to North London CAMRA or PM me.
Called in here entirely on spec while in the smoke to visit the British Library. Wasn't expecting much but was very pleasantly surprised. Beers on offer:- Youngs Bitter and Golden, Bombadier, Deuchars IPA and Brains SA; all in good nick and dispensed by a very knowledgable barman. The Youngs Golden was only 2.75 a pint (Cask ale at least 2.95 at home).
Ok for a pint or 2 but better pubs around. The tubby aussie barmaid was giving the shortest measures i have ever seen in my 24 years of pub going,i was gobsmacked the other half dozen people getting served there in my 15 min stay didn't say a word. But thats the English for you i guess
In here on 15 January as part of a crawl. Disappointed as there were only two beers on, Bombardier and Broadside. Looks like most of the others would have been GK. Old fashioned type pub, peeling wallpaper. Better pubs around.
I drank here recently, it was the first Saturday night of 2010, looking for a place to eat with some beer. The outside looks okay, the inside was kind of typical British pub, quite attractive and old-fashioned (in a good way). I ordered the cod and chips with minted mushy peas, and a Reinbeer Ale. Both were delicious and the dinner was one of the best fish and chips I have ever had. The staff were friendly and helpful. I recommend this if you are in the area and hungry or just want a nice beer. They had a large screen for watching football, and the football crowd were well-behaved and quiet from where I was sitting at the other end of the pub.
Stopped for a brief half here before it closed this evening (7pm). Unfortunately I never got to finish my drink, as I'd realised I'd left something in the previous pub we had been in. By the time I got back, the glass had gone and the pub was closed! They did have 6 real ales - Greene King IPA & Old Speckled Hen, Youngs Original, London's Reinbeer Ale, Wells Bombardier and Brains Party Popper. But during my brief visit, I saw enough to convince me that I'd rather drink in the Doric Arch or possibly even the Bree Louis than in here.
why does the gents smell so much as soon as you walk in?
shame as the beer was alright.
This is really a station pub - it's not as bad as the Shakespeare at Victoria or most of the pubs around Paddington or Kings Cross but a station pub it is.
The strong whiff of the gents when I opened the door and the faint odour of sick in the rear area set the scene for my very quick pint.
GKIPA, Courage, Pride and Broadside were the ales on offer and I have to admit the food bein served around me looked and smelt good. Still the overall ambience was not great and I doubt I'll be returning to this particular estblishment.
ahd a few PInts of Pride in here. Not bad and a good steak and ale pie. The toilets were disgusting at 11am cant figure out why they would not be hosed down and cleaned before the pub opened for the day. Good beer good food but put off by the bogs.
Although I used to work nearby a few years ago, I hardly ever used to visit as there were always groups of rather unsavoury-looking characters hanging about. However, the place looks rather more appealing now with a smarter appearance both inside and out (and the hanging baskets certainly help). Reasonable selection of real ales, and my pint of Gales Seafarers was on fine form. Overall, rather better than I remembered it.
Really not sure about this one, all the initial impressions were good. Flora on the outside of the pub well looked after, always a good sign. Inside not too bad, with a bunch of people playing the quiz machine. There was definitely an odd smell coming from somewhere and at times the staff seemed more intent on working out who was on shift later that day than actually working. Nothing exciting on the pumps which was a disappointment and my choice 'Polar Bear' seemed to a bit flat and tasteless. Might have expected better from somewhere so close to the station.
A decent pub to have a few beers in before commuting home. Firendly bar staff help.
Met our mates off the train and headed for the Doric Arch which was shut, so came here instead. Glad we did, very friendly boozer, barman was a funny fella and was good at his job. Beer was nice and the barman remembered our orders which was impressive. I'd definately come again.
This big pub is a little rough around the edges, but it serves well kept beer and I found the staff to be very pleasant. GK IPA, Bombardier and Old Speckled Hen were available and there was one unused pump, two pumps were off and another two had coming soon clips on them. There is also a large selection of standard lagers.
The pub shows Sky and Setanta and there are two plasma screens, one of which is in the quiet dining side of the pub and was turned off even though the Arsenal game was on. There were only a couple of people around there so it was good to see the barman use his head and not inflict people with the football that didnt want to watch it.
It was great to see a dart board, but Im not so sure about the arcade driving games!
Ill probably never go in here again as the Doric Arch is just across the road.
We stopped in here because we were hankering a few rounds on the pub's quizer.
Completely agree with bedfont's comment from earlier this year that ' if you have 6 ales and keep them to a standard why have a boring selection of 6 mass produced middling brown ales that can be bought anywhere? It makes no sense.' This is indeed the scourge of many pubs in central London. Last night though among the usual suspects was the seasonal Rosey Nosey, and a pale offering from Jennings, so the beer front is slightly improved. To be fair, the pub has under gone a sympathetic refurbishment since the photo above was taken, but the place is still lacking any real sole. This is presumably due to the migrational nature of the clientele resulting from the pubs proximity to Euston station. The beer was on form and the staff friendly, but I doubt I will return anytime soon. Not unless I again find myself with a desperate desire for a game of 'Trivial Pursuit' while at Euston that is.

If you want to eat don't sit in the room to the right as you face the bar, the smell of toilet block from the gents toilets is overwhelming. The beer was ok but all from big brewers - no local ales or small breweries represented . OK for a quick slurp on the way to the train.

Slightly tired, worn and unpleasent - that's applies to both the pub and the landlady! Bit harsh, but it's polite compared to the cold treatment my friends and I got when we visited. Since being taken over by the new management, it has lost all the charm that used to exist. You used to be able to look past the fragrent toilets, old paint and worn interior because it had character. Now, the character has gone and the rest remains the same.
"We show sport" they proclaim...hardly! Reluctantly flicked over to the Champions League semi-final two minutes before kick-off while the whole pub wanted the build up!
Sorry if I seem rather put out, but that is how we were treated. Food is quite good value...but that's it. Quick drink after work? Perhaps, but there are better pubs locally.
Dropped in here when the Doric Arch was mysteriously shut - the lights were on but the doors were locked.
The pub had a selection of ales although it was a selection of brown beers from the usual suspects - Youngs, Bombardiar, Pride, Directors, Greene King IPA and Spitfire. To call it a choice would be stretching it.
No offense to anyone but if you have 6 ales and keep them to a standard why have a boring selection of 6 mass produced middling brown ales that can be bought anywhere? It makes no sense.
Pub seemed like another decent stopping point by Euston. Friendly and with a decent but no overwhelming Friday crowd.
Not such a bad place, handy for Euston station. Nothing special, but fit for purpose.
You know when youve had a few and you see a notice in a pub that you have an urge to add something to, well theres one in the Gents of the Royal George. It helpfully informs you that To turn off the cold water tap please pull it upwards and turn it to the left. I keep wanting to add Alternatively you could get a plumber in and fix the bleeding cold water tap. Its a shame really as this pub has improved both its service and its beer offering in the last year, following the arrival of an Antipodean guvnor, but lets itself down with the state of the toilets.
Quite the most fragrant toilets I have ever had the pleasure of urinating in. Literally 100 years of the good patrons piss left to grow and nuture in to something magnificently horrific. Go on, have a smell.
Decent enough pub though - but the Erdinger tasted like bubble bath.
I have been drinking in this pub regularly for near on 5 years and I still love the place. It is convenient for the station, has a makeover at least once a year and the staff are always a friendly bunch. Cathy and Pete also make sure there are no undesirables in the pub (which is no mean feat when you are located between Euston and Kings Cross!) Definately a pub to go to if you want to chill after work or before going on to a club..
anonymous - 23 Jul 2007 11:50 |
I really enjoy drinking in here, and it's even better since the refit. The loo's are fully functioning (ladies that is, mens i have no idea about) and the new menu is delicious. The bar staff are friendly and the management are brilliant. They have TV's in both ends of the pub so you'll never miss any major sporting event, and it's on most of the time so you can catch sports news as well.
Good pub friendly staff quite a wide range of beers. I was here last week with my mate its the pub he goes to after work. We lost a fortune on the quiz machine but I would still go and visit again.
This is a reasonable station pub. Plus points include having Erdinger on tap and seemingly friendly barstaff. Downsides - well the bogs aren't the nicest in the world but that's hardly shocking given the area. The pub's quite sports friendly as well - big screens on both sides but never that heaving which is another plus point. Quiz machine should you want one and one of those new style jukies (not sure how decent it is mind).
The arrows board scores points although I've yet to use it so don't know what the score is with using pub darts.
Generally it's a decent pub to meet friends off the train but there's no way you'll be coming out of your way to go here.
A safe 6 pub.

I love this pub the staff are friendly and sooooo relaxed that the beer tastes even better. The management are two of the nicest people i have ever met Peter & Cathy have taken this pub to new hights and i hope they will carry on for many years to come. Visit here if you get a chance

Friendly staff, excellent choice of Real Ale, food of good value 2 for 7.99.
Been in here on many occasions on my visits to London and have never been served bad food/beer. Staff always friendly, comfortable place for a beer when waiting for trains.
It's handy being so near the station, never eaten here but the drinks are reasonable and the atmosphere is friendly enough.
Jo984 - 28 Sep 2006 10:30 |
Pretty decent drinking place , close to the station handy for waiting for train home . Decent beer and very good food id recommend it .
Strolled into this place early on Saturday evening, fairly busy with trendy types all supping there bitters and lagers. There was no MILD here or any other sort of dark drink so strolled straight through and headed for the Euston Flyer. A much better pub serving Fullers London Porter~exquisite.
Not the fault of the pub, but it's always too busy and cramped in here. Beer is ok, service is prompt... definitely only a pub for a quick one after work or if you're a footy fanatic.
Always my last port of call before I catch the train. Yes the place needs a good cleanup, although the beer seems well kept and the staff very friendly and hardworking. Have never had to hang around waiting to be served here for long, even during the weekday rush hour when the place is usually heaving. Will still keep popping in here.
The toilets are awful, but the general condition/hygiene in the place didn't seem particularly bad. In fact, now I think about it (and perhaps rather worryingly having seen some of the other comments) we even had a fry-up in here which at the time seemed very tasty and good value! Only word of warning here is to check out the football fixtures to see which fans may be using the pub on a Saturday (ie. travelling via Euston). I've been caught out on that front here a couple of times.
Could do with a clean up, but being close to the station attracts anyone the head of steam won't have in their pub, giving the head (now the Doric) the edge over it. There are better pubs along the Euston Road if you have the time to try them without missing your train.
Must have come on a bad night (Monday, a few weeks back). Pretty busy but stank to high heaven and seemed less than hygienic throughout! Walked in then rapidly straight out. It can't be this bad all the time??
The WKD is well worth the 3.08 and they always have plenty in stock which is great as I am a frequent visitor! Love the pub and love the staff, would almost call it my local!!
This is a good boozer, I have been working in the area on and off for 5 years now and it has changed a great deal for the better. The dodgy element has been eliminated by the new managers.
Pint and shot prices are not bad for compared to other pubs in the area but bottles can be - 3.08 for a WKD Blue.
Staff are friendly and efficient, it gets busy on a Friday but they have enough people on nowadays to make the wait bearable.
The only problem is the blokes toilets - if you need a turnout I'd recommend heading to Euston station and paying the 20p so that at least you get a seat!
Convenient sh ithole next to Euston,..discraceful bogs
Only a pub for passing through. Cheap food but this is reflected in the quality! If your a stranger you tend not to get preference when waiting to be served! Perhaps if I said "wots gaain on?" more often they might take more notice!? When you come out of Euston Station its ideally situated across the busy road, watch out for the "spare 1 for a cup of tea 'guv" brigade as you make your way there.
Nice big TV screen which was showing the golf last time I was in. Staff a little off, but I put this down to the fact i was not local. A decent pint of Kronenburg, nevertheless.
Ok pub which seems friendly, and sells reasonable and cheap food. A bit crowded on Friday night, but nice at the weekends.
yep 2.88 for a Reef is disgraceful AND I didnt even get the option of a glass!
Aquabolina - 27 Oct 2004 14:27 |
2.88 for a bottle of Reef. Enough said.

Decent pub right by Euston Station. Would definitely recommend it as a place to have a pint or two if you are passing through.
Stevo - 30 Sep 2004 10:40 |
I remember the Royal George as the best pub in London - because we worked right across the street. Friday's was always busy, but the crew always managed to get our pints for us.
Tom Nagahisa - 15 Sep 2004 01:23 |
The pub is nice enough, the beer is good and they show most footbal games(SKY sports). If you have to take a shit however, the toilet is not that appealing;)
krimo - 17 Aug 2004 13:35 |
when visiting london i have always found the beer on form in this pub. but i agree with steves comments earlier try the head of steam also. found the beer fine in here

Nice boozer but nothing to get excited about. Your better bet is to cross the street and find the Head of Steam.
Had an enjoyable few pints in this pub while waiting for the rattler, friendly bar staff.

Its small, but has a cozy and friendly atmosphere. You can't go wrong with a visit to this pub. The food is fabulous, well presented and priced. Compliments to the chef and the bar staff.

Popped in here for something to eat whil on holiday in London. Thoroughly impressed. Great food, great prices. Food was well presented, tasted lovely, very generous portion sizes and well priced. We didnt wait long, and the service was good.
Two main courses were only 5.99, which I thought was good considering 1. It was London 2. It was right beside Euston Station. Next time I'm down I'll definatley be going there.
Laura - 31 Jul 2003 01:22 |
Popped in for a quite one while waiting for a friend to arrive at euston..Reasonably quiet, tempting food menu, service was ok, beer slightly flat but drinkable, dodgy area outside ! several "crusties" looked like they wanted to start a scrap !
Don't Drink here. The staff are generally useless and quite often there is actually no beer - which I usually consider a pre-requiste for a pub.
