Had lunch here in September, apart from the barmaid deciding to finish her shift halfway through our order and then another deciding to do the hoovering while we were having lunch, it was fine.

Been to the Lamb Inn 3 times now with the family and always had a great lunch, the fish and chips is great, the home made burgers too. All reasonably priced. Very friendly staff, children friendly and affordable good food for them too. Pleasant garden at rear and front, albeit right next to road at front. Great all round pub, worth a visit on way to or way back from the beach or any other time. Only couple of beers on this time, Sussex Ale and Badger, the Sussex was very good.. Highly recommended

We have just been for a walk to the beach at West Wittering and popped in the Lamb Inn on the way home, we had our two dogs with us as well and is nice that some pubs still let dog inside and even had dog biscuits on the bar which was great and I have never seen this before. We had lunch I had the sea bass from the specials board and my partner had the lambs liver which we both really enjoyed. The chap behind the bar was very friendly and talkative and made us feel very welcome. If your heading to the beach worth a pop in.

We have just had another lovely meal at the Lamb Inn Wittering, the fish and chips are great ! also being able to have the light bite menu is a bonus as the normal menu fish is huge! Thursday night locals night buy one get one free is proving very popular we only just managed to get a table. We would also recommend the steaks! The landlord has now been in this pub for just under 2 years and has really made a diffeence to the local community, I am glad to say even in the current climate we still like to treat ourselves to a good meal.

On driving back from a beautiful day on West Wittering beach we decided to stop at The Lamb Inn, my wife went to look at the menu and first impressions where quite pricey. We decided to stay, and sat in the front garden, there is a rear patio garden, small front garden and ample seating inside (along with car parking), the rear patio was quite busy, inside was empty and the front odd people. My wife ordered Caesar salad 7.95 upgraded by 1 by having chicken 8.95 total, I after much consideration picked monster haddock and chips, with peas, after the menu advised it was freshly dipped in batter 9.99. My wife had glass of Sauv Blanc which was disappointingly served from the dregs of one bottle and a fresh one to fill the glass!! I ordered bottled water, no mistakes possible here! After a 40 minute wait (on what was a fairly quiet period) the food arrived, I put it down to the freshly made batter etc. To say I was shocked at what was served was an understatement, the Caesar salad was a one variety lettuce leaf, a few croutons, a few shavings of parmesan cheese and some dressing, along with half a chicken breast, it looked awful and so small. So for 7.95 and no chicken beware!! My fish was a good portion, but it is highly unlikely it was freshly dipped in batter, simply as the batter had a smooth processed appearance; the fish was meaty, but flavourless. The chips where contract chips, and dry and fluffy texture inside, with the peas being the contract frozen variety, very disappointing. The batter left a yellow gunk on the fish, from either the batter or poor oil.

We popped into this pub on a whim. Very friendly place. Had the fish and chips from their 'light meals' menu - gorgeous and certainly not a small portion. Even though the pub was busy on this Sunday afternoon, the staff still took their time to be polite and welcoming. I highly recommend this pub.

My wife and I visited the lamb inn recently with some fellow walkers. Had a really lovely meal, a light portion of fish and chips. The batter was perfect. The staff were really friendly too, there was a girl working behind the bar who was very interested in the walk we had taken that day and made a few suggestions for future walks in the area. Was very refreshing to be served by someone so bubbly and warm, almost as refreshing as the Badger Beer! There was also a man who was very nice to us while we dithered over our order. We have been told by friends that live locally that the lamb is under new management and I have to say that it seems they are doing a very good job, had a really lovely visit. Will be returning for a different walk, and probably some directions!!!
|
Have visited The Lamb Inn a few times now under the new management and have always had really nice meals and been greeted with warm friendly smiles!
|
in reply to busymum............ the last people have gone to the Vine in Tarring, Worthing................ I found this out after speaking to a few locals..... the Lamb has gone in my estimations............. staff are not so friendly and the food POOR!!!!!!! they obviously dont have the same passion for food and it could be frozen I am not sure
We went to the Vine last night(Friday) and the service and food are still like we remembered at the Lamb and to see the landladys bubbly smiling face was most welcoming... well worth a drive it took us about 35mins from Chichester..
|
What a dissapointment!!!! Visited the Lamb yesturday (Sunday 3rd May) and was so embarrassed to have inflicted it on friends we had taken with us under our assurances that we always had a good meal there. The bar area has lost its welcoming look and the welcome from behind the bar was even worse! Despite our inital findings we stayed for lunch and was yet again dissapointed. The worst by far was my sister in laws fish & chips (something we have always enjoyed in the past), I should think it was frozen and pre-battered as it tasted far from fresh. Am just so gutted that we have lost our favourite place to eat. Have just read the review above and am surpised it is the same place, sounds very much like an advert! Can anyone tell me where the previous owners have gone to? Will not be re visiting the Lamb again. Very sad.

Under new management!!!! well worth a visit, lovely area and made very welcome, food fantastic, had fish and chips! the first visit , great! steak which was done to perfection! on the second visit, cannot fault this pub.we will be returning! well done the new owners Dom and Jo and all the staff. Been to the lamb this weekend and yet again had an absolutely fantastic meal. They were very busy and although we had not booked the landlady went out of her way to fit us in. The traditional Roast Beef was fantastic, better than I've had anywhere before, and so much of it!!!! My friends had their Badger Ale Haddock & chips, Homemade lasagne and Haddock & prawn Mornay and despite the huge portions, not a scrap was left. All brilliant. It is aslo good that the lamb inn offers a varied Childrens menu, not all chips, chips, chips! We love the Lamb Inn, we always feel welcome and look forward to our next visit.

We visited this pub after a day at the beach, we drove past the signs advertising 'Good Pub Food'! We stopped there for a meal and to be honest was greatly disapointed.
I went and placed my order and a very frosty lady semi greeted me, althrough my stay at the pub she was particularly unhelpful and everything I asked for seemed to much hassle for her, I found this out of order especially when I was paying over the odds for my food anyway.
We spent 33 pounds on 2 beers, 1 glass of wine and fish and chips for two which I found was very expensive! Apparantly The Lamb Inns fish and chips are famous but I really didn't understand why. I have tasted better from a fish and chip shop and for half the price. My partners arrived with items missing, there was no offer of would you like any sauces, would you like any thing else, can I get you a drink, is everything ok for you... Nothing at all!!
If you want my opinion your better off not stopping at all here, keep driving past and don't believe the signs on the side of the road.
Well below average on pretty much everything. Save your money and buy some food else where.

We went to the Lamb for drinks and dinner, the drinks were fine however the food left a lot to be desired. The Pork, apple and cider sausages were, by the landlady's admission "not very apple-y" and upon complaining about the grit found in a caesar salad, the barman informed me that "lettuce grows in the ground" which may be the source of the grit. Another meal in the group had an errant Lamb sausage appear on their pork only order however the pub refused to make a positive identity on that particular item.
A nice pub overall, but spoilt by a possibly unlucky dining experience.
|
Yet another great meal! Had not been in for a while but yet again the food was fantastic and the staff so obliging. Took some friends that had not been there before and they agree with us that the Food at the Lamb inn cannot be beaten! While my friends opted for Steaks (which were cooked to perfection!) I tried the butterfish which was out of this world. My husband tried another sausage & mash combination which was delicious. We always know that we will have a good meal out whenever we visit the Lamb.
|
had a good night on friday, great crowd in good to see the faces............... pity about the arse hole complaining to the landlady because she reserved a table in the bar for a disabled lady......said he wouldnt come back, he won't be missed i'm sure none us locals like him anyway!
nice food and we are back in tomorrow for the quiz

Had a great meal last Tuesday (New Years Day). Was really busy, though did not have to wait long for our lunch and as per usual was of a fantastic standard. Had changed their menu since the last time we had visited and have introduced a pick & mix Sausage & Mash menu which is brilliant. I had a Drunken Duck, a Lamb & Mint and a Pork, Apple & Cider sausgae with Mustard mash & Ale gravy. I will be going back again to try all the other choices. I was also impressed by the staff, despite being rushed off their feet they were so obliging and polite. An excellant pub with a fantastic choice of food. Cannot praise it enough.
|
Definitely not a good pub. From the sounds of it, this pub has gone considerably down hill. The food and service was very poor.
I reserved a lunch for 9 people for a New Year's day lunch having read the reviews above. We were put in the corner of a dark room which had an awful smell (no wonder the children which we surrounded by were crying their eyes out). After numerous prompts our food arrived. Needless to say after a few attempts at eating it we sent it back pretty much in the same state it had arrived. We made a quick exit, lucky for me as the party host that the New Year's Eve party had been a success

This is a great little pub that does nice food, the landlady is always smiling and the staff are friendly. The food isnt cheap but if you want cheap food goto weatherspoons, the food at the lamb is quality and worth the extra. Good beer to
|
Yes still very good - but not cheap.
|
Used this pub one lunch time after walking dog on the brilliant nearby beach. Well impressed with classic country pub atmosphere, friendly landlady and staff, food excellent but the bonus was I went back on a friday to sus out live music night and was suprised at the quality of the entertainment [and good food again] guy by the name of mike berry playing some good music ....recommended ***** catch the live music night....
|
Fantastic pub, newly decorated and are now a non smoking establishment. Our favourtite bar/restaurant in Sussex.

Visited again on 30/3. This is the perfect country pub! Will be even better when the smoking ban comes in. Perfect Badger Ales, really well kept. Food very good. The Landlady and staff very friendly. Will get a 10/10 when the smoking goes! Very highly recommended.
|
went last night to eat. friday night here is like a friday night in town it was so busy but a great atmosphere, which is helped and complimented by the friendly welcome, candles lit on all tables, and bloody good food. you have to try the slow roast pork belly wow! I love this pub, a real country pub but looks great always clean and well prsented and great staff. check out where the landlady keeps her pen ha ha.
|
I just love the place. they have had some work carried out here......... nice new toilet area beautifully presented bar and staff to copliment. I did hear a rumour that they were just about to change the menu. the food is also the best around. Linda the landlady has to be the bubliest lady that fronts any pub, always good for a laugh or just a chat. best pub within 20 miles by far.

Wonderful! - feel compelled to write this comment after a fantasic evening at the Lamb inn. How refreshing it is to visit a pub with proper pub morals. I do not know how long it has been since I have visited a pub and was greeted by such friendly and helpful staff. Being a real ale drinker I was excited to see their great selection of ales (some I have never heard of but enjoyed sampling!). The food was superb and though I was very british and opted for their extremely large portion of fish and chips in the best beer batter I have ever had, my wife was more adventurous and tried the venison in black cherry sauce special which she devoured with great enthusiasm. The Lamb Inn made us feel very welcome and has a very friendly and relaxed vibe about it, perhaps that has something to do with the bubbly landlady who we shared a joke with, she and her pub are a real asset to this quiet area. We will definately be back soon.
|
Sadly under the current ownership, local opinion on the Lamb has taken a turn for the worse. The pub is a traditional low-ceilinged country pub which, on the face if it, has plenty going for it but is let down badly by the remarkably poor food. The current management can't seem to decide what market they're going for either, one night we went in and there was a brass band shoved in a corner playing silver-screen classics, seemingly designed to prompt a nostalgic tear from the local silver-hair brigade. That's all very nice but us here in the land of the living could make better use of vacated seating and we're still in the market for buying beer!
Poor food quality lets the side down, since positioned in the middle of nowhere on the manhood penninsula, if you're visiting you might reasonably expect a meal. Lately we've seemingly dropped by, been disappointed with the atmopshere and left without a single drink. We can only hope the Lamb changes hands again and we can have back our lively local boozer where we'd take visiting friends for grub.
|
Had an excellent lunch here on Saturday. Both the food and the beer were very good and reasonably priced. The back garden is small and could get crowded but we were lucky. There are also some seats out the front too.
There seem to be a few rooms inside including non-smoking dining room where children are allowed. High-chairs are available too.
The bar staff were helpful and patient with me even though I was a little indecisive and then changed our order.
It was our first trip to the area so I can't comment on how the Lamb is compared to other local pubs, but we'd certainly recommend it.
|
Good food, good atmosphere and great beer (particularly the Firsty Ferret).
If only the rear garden was lawned instead of paved !
|
Really loved this place. Great food, a good atmosphere and friendly staff. Would definitely go back!
|
had another great night there on Saturday..... great food and service. they had live music wich was good and the landlord was asked to sing them, this was great fun, his rendition of maggie may.
people dancing and jiving to the music.............fantastic keep it up guys we love it

My family and I ate at the Lamb this afternoon and cannot praise it enough. Everything from the beer, food and customer service was served to the highest standards.Being Easter Sunday we made the mistake by not reserving a table though the Landlady did everything she could by finding us a table as soon as it was possible. We tried several things from the menu including the nicest tasting Whitebait I have ever had, beautiful Roasts and delicious desserts. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who really had their work cut out, especially when dealing with an arrogant women who from what I could make out felt that her food had taken too long, she hadn't booked and it's Easter Sunday for Gods sake, she was lucky to have gotten a table at all. I think she just liked the sound of her own voice. Its a shame that staff in this industry have to tolorate these people. I will definately be a regular now at the Lamb, it's a definate improvement from the last couple that had it, it's now a completely different atmosphere. If you had visited the Lamb in the past and had been put off by Tim & Lucy now is the time to try it again.

had a great night there tonight, went for the most delicious meal served with a lovely smile from a beautiful smile.live jazz by the stardust hotshots was superb. they have a range of live music every month with both great food and cask beer.

decided to visit the lamb inn following their fantastic write up in the chichester observer and can only agree with what was said, great sunday roast with fresh veg and homemade yorkies. I took the family for lunch we were welcomed by happy smiling faces and a roaring open fire, certainly worth a visit we will be back.

Nice people very dog friendly. Food was quickly served and the ploughmans platter was unusual and excellent, no mere lump of cheese and pickled onion here ! An interesting foray into ham pickles fresh roll and sausage !

can't believe you went to the same pub, our party of six went for sunday roast and had the most fantastic meal.how you can say it is 70's when it is the most beautiful traditional village pub is beyond me. I can only say to anyone try for yourself, they have so much going on and to offer, live music, quiz cheap beer, what more could you want?
well done the Lamb look forward to seeing you on our next visit to the witterings

Absolutely awful!!! We went to the beach for a walk and popped in here for lunch on a Sunday. The interior is tired and very 1970's and the food was disgusting. Luckily we only had sandwiches, which were made with stale dry bread and the filling was also so dry they fell apart before you could reach your mouth. The chips were soggy and under cooked. Not sure how you could get a simple lunch more horribly wrong, to be honest. There are much nicer pubs in the area, so I would reccommend you drive past this one!!!
|
these guys are great they are changing the style of the Lamb to a real pub. they have a locals night on a Tuesday where they sell beer and spirits for 1.50 and you can get a meal for 5. they have live music every week and a quiz every sat with free food last Saturday it was Lasange and garlic bread. I love the pub they should be the best around by now.

went to the Lamb on tuesday 20th Dec for their carols and charity raffle.........FANTASTIC. Trays of snadwiches and mince were brought around about 9.30 and then just after 10 they then brought around trays of mince pies. great night, great music and fantastic pub a credit to the landlord and landlady. I love the place

what a beautiful clean pub, there are some great mid week food offers 5 on a monday and 2 a pint. great pre christmas menu. best sunday roast I have eaten in years. you have to luck carefully for it though as it is set back off the road the opposite side to the sign post. very friendly and great wood burning fire.
|
The main part of this pub, around the bar, is welcoming with good beers and a warm fire. The Sussex was our choice.
We arrived with 10 kids on two evenings in Oct '05 and the landlady made us feel very welcome. We were able to put us and the kids into a separate room. The food, service and evenings were relaxing and just what we wanted.
|
Visited on Saturday 16th July 2005 with 2 friends. We were happy with our starter BUT the chef cannot cook duck. I asked not to have the potatoes Dauphinoise as I am allergic to cheese. They brought me potato Dauphinoise! Sent it back for chips. Pathetic anemic specimens. The duck could not be cut with anything less than a steak knife. It was the toughest I have ever been served. They never apologised and the Landlord's 'partner' argued with us, the customer. All he said was ' We will cancel your bill and we want you to leave' Needless to say we left and will not be back
|
I have 2 things to say: 1 there is no such hotel as PARK LODGE in Arundel 2 if the food is as expensive what are they doing wrong cheap skate.
I have never been here but I myself run a pub and know what it is like when you are judged before given a chance, we are like any other business man. the trouble is too many of you have CHAMPAGNE TASTE AND A BEER POCKET, if you don't like what we offer then leave us alone and drink elsewhere with lower standards.

I think you are just trying to spoil it for these guys,I frequent the Lamb on many occasions and it is not like the previous people, you are corrct there as Tim and Lucy were snobby and ignorant and at least these people will talk to you. The beer has never been so good!
anonymous - 7 Feb 2005 18:15 |
Although The Lamb has a West Wittering address it is quite some way from the village, being an 18th century cottage-inn standing on the B2179 (Chichester Road tel. 01243 511105). The surprisingly spacious interior has low, oak-beamed ceilings but peach coloured walls provide an open and uncluttered feel. There is a front bar with wall benches and bar stools, a dining room to the right and another dining area to the rear left. This leads out to a back beer-garden and there are also benches in the smaller garden at the front. The Lamb was hardly out of the GBG between 1987 and 1998 when it stocked a wider range than nowadays of beers from independent breweries. As a Hall and Woodhouse pub it today dispenses Badger Best Bitter and King and Barnes Sussex Bitter, but very pleasingly also serves Stonehenge Pigswill. There is a good food menu and I wash down my steak baguette with Pigswill! One of the more pleasant pubs in this general area, but dont be tempted to use your mobile phone here as a ban is in place.
|
Fantastic food but get in quick before the current landlord leaves!
