The Ship has had the whole Adnams treatment, but I don't think many will complain. Firstly, a lot of visitors are going to be visiting the great beach (dog friendly all year and large FREE car park) along this fantastic stretch of coast. After a long day walking, swimming and generally enjoying the area, it's fair to say a pint or two in The Ship will be on most people's minds.. They will find a large atmospheric pub, with lots of nooks and crannies with a great garden. Beers on July 21st were Adnams Southwold, Woodford Wherry and (a really good beer) Lowestoft brewery Green Jacks Trawlerboys.. The cafe in the car park also serves great food..

Food rather pricey but beer choice okay.
Earl Soham's Brandeston Gold, Woodforde's Nelson's Revenge and Southwold Bitter on two pumps. One pump not used.

Had a nice beer when finished the Dunwich Dynamo a couple of weeks ago. Enjoy the occasional drink at 7 am. Good selection and reasonably priced.
Did not order the breakfast as I thought it was a little too expensive. Perhaps a mistake as the breaky in the greasy spoons cafe was probably the worst I'd ever had! Sorry for using this site to criticise a cafe but I've got that off my chest!

The food here is very good indeed. Some may say a little on the expensive side, but, in my opinion, worth it.
The pub itself is a friendly place, attracting locals and tourists alike, and dog friendly.
The stock beer is Adnams. Well, it is Suffolk, and under 10 miles from Southwold. Both the Bitter and Broadside in excellent order. The guest when we visited was Earl Sohams' Gannet. A very tasty, dark mild, also in very good order.
We visited twice during the week, and will return when next in the Area.

Visited on a sunny Sunday lunchtime, when it was very busy. Refurbishments mentioned in other reviews seem to be just about finished. Stocked Adnams and an excellent Mahseer IPA from Green Jack. Food took a while but was good and reasonably priced.

Very well placed for walks along the Suffolk coast, or visits to Minmere, Aldeburgh, Walberswick and Blythburgh. The bars is very inviting, with a warm fire, tiled floor, scattered furniture and a view to the sea. The beers were in good condition, though the current incarnation of Adams Bitter has lost a lot of teh distinctiveness that made it so special. During our visit, the kitchen was closed and much refurbishment was under way. Hence not really fair to assess the skeleton menu, which was basic, rather undistinguished but OK. Been an occasional visitor to this pub for 20 years and it has maintained a good standard - some room for improvement but hard to fault for its atmosphere, position and beer

A good place to drink, with a warm, traditional pub interior: not at all scruffy, but not fake or tarted up. Beer fine if you like Adnams bitter (I do at lunch, but would prefer something stronger like Broadside in the evening). The food was OK but a bit ordinary: without become too "foody" (or too pricey) they need to raise their game a bit here.

Staggered into here after a long walk down to Eastbridge and back up the coast. I couldn't drink 'cos I was driving but the other half had a decent pint; and the barman offered a taste first.
It's pleasant, comfortable and welcoming. We'd love to go back sometime whan we can give the beer the attention it deserves. Only problem is, we're rather liable to get sidetracked into the Eels Foot in Eastbridge

We walked the coastal path from Southwold to Dunwich and arrived at dusk. We were greeted by a fire in a large log burner, and tables and chairs scattered around the tiled floor.
The beer was first rate, the wine by the glass was enjoyed by the ladies (who are high maintenance and difficult to please), and the cosy nature of our surroundings lured us to staying for 3 pints.
I can't comment about the food, as our hosts were cooking, but we have vowed to return.
I must thank the landlord for retrieving my scarf, 3 pints on an empty stomache and I didn't have my wits about me.

Probably still a couple of centuries or so away from slipping into the sea, the Adnams is first class and the beer garden an idyllic reason among many for visiting this atmospheric village - once Britain's sixth biggest town and a major port. Pride of the rotten borough.

The pub, though unchanged, was better run when owned by Steve & Annie Marshlain (who retired). The food is not as good as it was and the management staff (tenants? owners?) are uninspiring.
Still, it's a fantastic location and the new bedrooms in the old stable block are pleasant. Worth staying here to explore the area. Just get your fish'n chips from the great chippy on the beach!

Beer very good food is awful the worst fish and chips i have ever tasted landlord not interested when complaint was made very sad because its a lovely village pub but we shall not be returning

The pub is fine. They have kept the original features. Nice little countryside pub. However i would not go there for the food. It takes ages to order it (not because it was busy), and we got all the four things we ordered (veg, potatos, our 2 mains) at different times. Strange. The Guiness we had was good and Adnams was also tasty. Without doubt one of the best pubs in the village!

Beer and warm atmosphere were great, and the landlord goes out of his way to be helpful. However, I may have caught them on an off day as far as food goes - the ploughman's lunch was a bit shoddy.

Stayed here in February 2005 for our annual Suffolk pub crawl/walk!
Good food and rooms are excellent, I would recommend this pub as service and staff is both top notch.

Busy (in summer)popular pub set in a beautiful location on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. There is only one low beamed bar with inglenook log fire-place,(which is nice if you visit in the winter) but there is additional seating in the conservatory and there is a large beer garden. The Ship offers a good food menu too. Adnams is the incumbent brew.
