Prefer Country Pubs in the Countryside, especially if they allow dogs into the bar/lounge area.
Dislike Town Pubs that are "dressed" to be pseudo Country Pubs.
I also dislike pubs that try to be "fine dining" restaurants. A Pub is a Pub, and should provide Pub Grub. I.e.: Gravy, not drizzled jus.
Pubs with Sky Sports, Juke Boxes, Pool Tables, Quiz Nights and Karaoke Nights, are a great turn-off.
Pubs are places to drink good beer and wine, have a value for money meal and to have pleasant conversation.

Good food, good beer, good staff, dog friendly, OK accommodation and reasonably priced.
No objections to a return visit.

The Cholmeley Arms, Burton Coggles
Stayed here for a couple of nights and really pleased we did.
The room was very clean and comfortable, and quite large.
As to the pub itself, it's a great little place. We were made to feel most welcome by the staff and local alike.
There were two real beers on - TT Landlord and Grainstore Springtime. Both in excellent order and reasonably priced. They had GK IPA as well. The food was to die for, and they seem petrified that you will go away hungry - The portions need to be seen to be believed.
As to a return visit, we've already booked.
