please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Was here on a Sunday night from 10 til close. It was very loud everywhere in the pub and seemed to mainly cater for the African/Caribbean customers with the music selection. Although me and my friends had a decent drinka dn good time on our table, it was quite a dive overall with a range of drunk weirdos and old slappers on the pull.
If you are in London and want a more wild drink with a dance come here - however it is sticky, tacky and quite the standard Yates experience.
If you want to have a nice drink in London, then avoid at all costs unless it is the day time.

Any regular to this site can smell a Roland a mile off. A plethora of one hit comments ! do us a favour. Here boy.

Had a beer and a burger after work last night, was not overly crowded, the food was good for the price there are a lot of staff not from england which sometimes had an impact on ordering, but they were nice enough with it. Will prob go again next time i am in the area!
|
Hey, Last night for the first time went to Yates in Leicester sq, and to be quite honest I really enjoy myself like I haven't for a long time, a nice envoirement, not to cheap not to expensive! Appart the fact that was bit crowded, the service was great, the staff was super friendly not compared to some other pubs in the area with a very smily NOT faces and not really sympathetic. Summarising I really I a good time. Appart from the nasty comments surronding this place, I think people shouldn't make a pre-concepted ideas or stade of mind, which or not really pleasant, they should check it by themselfs, I like my oppinion Its an A+. P.s: I am not a employee from yates, just costumer, and I know how to write in perfect English!!!

PAT - clearly you dont have a life!!!!!! so what you have had a bad experience there, get over it!!! you have nothing better to do than slate this place, why not let people go and experience it themselves..........judging by your one review and your constant irrelvant comments you dont get out much! this is not face book this is a place for people to put a review down, i will not reply after this, as i have ALREADY written my review, just thought someone should let you know, that you should do the same!!!!
|
Never been to the place, so can't comment. However, I tend to agree with you Murgatroyd. Sticks out like a pork pie at a Jewish wedding. A load of 1st time reviewers, saying the same thing, around the same time. Got to be a few members of staff, or just one using different names.
|
Looks like someone at Yates's coerced the staff into posting positive reviews of this place.
|
I have been to this Yates a few times and would recommend anyone to go there. The staff are friendly, the food is great and the drinks are cheap. It's also in a great location. Great for socializing with friends and family.
|
Have been there few times and had a wonderful experience with the offers they got on food ,drinks and with the great service from them........ Thank you Yates.....
|
Have been here a few times and have always recieved great service. Yates is great value for money and suitable to all people. Me and my friends always meet here after work and they always have a great promtoion on cocktails. Would recommend everyone to go here for drinks or food
|
This is a really cool where ever you have a good time. The people and the environment is there is amaizing. And it's incredibly cheap for the place where is located. I am sure that return there.
|
all night fun and drinking over the weekends thats when i go and you cant go wrong - good price on drinks nice staff and a safe environment!!!
|
really good deals on food and drinks. was there on thurs- 2-4-1 cocktail all night! great fun! good location. be back again soon!
|
I have visited Yates in Leicester Square on several occasions, every time I have had a pleasant visit. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the meal deals are amazing and a bargain.
I would definitely visit again!!!
|
I dont see why there are so many negative reviews about this venue!
It's well maintained, spacious and good value for money especially considering the location.
yes, there is a Spoons next door, but its dark, small and dingy! Also plenty of screens for the footy :)
|
Mate, it's a Yates's Wine Lodge.
I've had the horrendous misfortune to have been forced to drink in one of these dumps and it mentally scarred me for life.
Still each to their own ... if it keeps the knuckledraggers away from the nice pubs, then maybe the Yates chain is serving a purpose after all.
|
Funboy's points are well made; this place is excellent value for the West End and a pleasant spot. No idea what Bateman is on(!) or about - again...
|
'I dont know anywhere else in Leicester square that I can get two meals and 4 drinks for under 20 quid'
===================================================================
Yes, but you have to consume them in a Yates's Wine Lodge, so it's all relevant.
You should treat yourself and upgrade to a Wetherspoons. Oooooohhhh ... Wetherspoons.
|
!VALUE FOR MONEY! I dont know anywhere else in Leicester square that I can get two meals and 4 drinks for under 20 quid that does not involve a some voucher you have to remember to take with you its a steal thats for sure.Nice

Great burgers & Cheap. 2-4-1 cocktails and decent dj.

Don't go out much in the West End much Saturdays these days and only popped in last night for a swift half before hittin' the Clubs.. well that was the plan... ended up staying all night. D.J. was superb, played all the massive tunes & mixed in some classic old school, only downside was you could barely fit on the dance floor to bust a move lol. Friendly staff on the door and behind the bar, add to that pub price drinks why go anywhere else??........... BARGAIN!!

I am now downgrading my assessment of this pub by three points after another second visit to this establishment.
Real Ales or Beers down to a choice of one: Bombardier was off, Only beer on tap was Youngs.
I had asked the barman for a real ale at the counter. The Barmen said that the only "Real Ale" that they had was Fosters. Ignorance is no excuse, I thought.
Anyway I ended up with a Youngs for 3.55 a pint, which I thought was OTT.
I then asked the barman where could I find the price for this beer listed and available easily for me to see from the bar, as I was also ordering a Roast Beef lunch which was very visibly advertised @ 6.95, and wasn't sure how large a bank note to take out of my wallet.
The barmen then told me, very snootingly, and looking down on me, that it was the pub's policy not have a price list for beers for customers to consult.
This was outrageous.
He then went to ask me "What was my table number?"
I said that I hadn't got a table as yet and tried to explain to him that being by myself at that time that pubs who operate that kind of policy when people order drinks and meals from the bar, they are very mistaken in this policy. At busy times, by the time you have ordered your lunch, someone has very frequently taken the table you wanted, behind your back. I explained the pub needed to have a better system, like in a theatre. I should be able to see easily from the bar a list of all the available unused tables, with their numbers.
He again snooted at me. He implied that it was my responsibility to have a table number
-BAH!
Less two points for thinking that customers do not have moral rights when they ask for proper service in a pub.
I consider the lack of a visible price list for drinks in a bar quite frankly nothing less than a con.
|
Facts:
Somewhat noisy Pint Bombadier 3.80p (pricey) Sunday Roast Beef Lunch (ok) 6.95 Barman was essentially professional in his duty.
No immediately obvious pricelist for beers (I didn't try playing hunt-the-thimble).
Deep and darkish interior, no windows, except on Leicester Square side.
|
Visited this pub a week ago was disgruntled when my husband asked for a Jack Daniels and coke and never asked him if he wanted a single or double. The gentleman at the bar automatically gave him a double and charged him 10.50 for the Jack Daniels and coke and half of lemonade.Just a few minor details that bar staff should take into account because not every one is so blind drunk not to notice a mistake like that.On top of the 3 pounds to get in the amount before we even sat down was a total of 16.95.Nothing wrong with the pub just lack of communication between bar staff and customers. If the bar staff do this trick to every customer that walks in the door they can double the takings in one night. And as yate's is a chain they never know when a mystery client may walk in and knock off points for not asking the right questions to the customer.Other than that the pub was well presented and clean and from what i saw was a good atmosphere.
|
had my birthday party in yates Leicester square and all I have to say is that it was perfect. Great atmosphere, drink deals and dj every night, really nice and friendly barstaff. Great value for money lot of meal deals (including drink...) food served really quickly considering how busy this venue is at evening. I'm going often to yates and I have never been disappointed. I would definitly recommend this venue I had a great time and will go again...
|
Been going to Yates for a while now and always have a great time. Staff are really friendly and a few new hotties started recently! Normally I go for the deals, always a cheap drink available and the DJ's are top notch. Popped in on Sunday to try out the food and they now have Sky HD so I got to watch the mighty Chelsea smash Arsenal with a Cheese & Bacon Burger and a pint for a 5! Ended up hitting the 3 cocktails at 5pm and ended up staying til close...
|
LOVE IT!! FRIENDLY STAFF, GREAT ATMOSPHERE! GREAT DEALS ON DRINKS AND FOOD TOO! LOVE HANGING OUT THERE WITH MY GIRLS, THE DOORMEN ARE LOVELY, FRIENDLY AND PROFESSIONAL! AWESOME NIGHT OUT!!!
|
I went to Yates's the other day for the first time for a friends birthday party and had a great time! The good thing about Yates's is that it is what it is. Cheesy chart music, drink deals and young people out to have fun! I've been to a few bars in London but I liked Yates's because its in no way pretentious, unlike some places. If you want t a good night out, no fuss then go here. I will be going back next time I go out in London, thats for sure!
|
You're obviously a honkey nobend - feck off back to your cave!!!
|
From a genuine and fair analysis, I wouldn't recommend Yates Leicester Square to anyone, and especially black people. It's a Pure racist pub. Doormen physically assaulted me, hit me headon tarmac & even tried to strangle me with no provocation whatsoever, I guess in revenge for reporting them to their manager abt their rude, confrontational & provocative behaviour earlier. Their attitude stinks, I wouldnt recommend this place to even my worst enemy, period. If you want to enjoy a decent night out in London, please dont go to this shit hole. It's RACIST to the T. Management is basically crap & you can tell from the behaviour of their front line staff, whose behaviour they appear to condone. They even employed a begger to basically work in the gents toilets. He's on everyones case for money if you go to the loo's. This place from my own experience has no class & is run by a bunch of maniacs. Please spend your money else where. There are so many nice pubs in central London with a splendid customer service & who would treat and value you as an esteemed customer. My ratings to this shit hole are very disappointing, bleak to be precise!!!!!!!!!!
|
I cannot believe what I am reading about this place as I go regularly and find it lovely, clean and friendly! Two main meals (with a choice of veggie food) and a bottle of wine for under 17! Fantastic and hard to believe it is in Leicester Square. I do recommend this place. Most recent visit 18 February 09.
|
Still refusing access to our soldiers - so show your support for our armed forces by not giving Yates your business.
|
I think I visited this place once before, just after it opened, and didn't feel the need to rush back (the majority of BITE reviews only reinforcing my original opinion). However, for some reason that now escapes me, I went back in again and the first thing I saw was a barman serving two 'pints' of lager that stopped at least an inch short of the top of each glass (although the youthful recipients didn't seem to notice). I nearly turned and left, but thought that I might as well try the Bombardier since I wasn't expecting to see any operational handpumps. Much to my amazement, I got a) a full pint; and b) a perfectly drinkable beer. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody, but life is full of little surprises...
|
Diabolically bad. And agree completely with the comment below. Avoid at all costs.
|
One of the worst pubs in London, now making headlines around the country for banning armed forces personnel from the premises 'because they start fights.' Oh yeah? so which regiment are the bling and Burberry crowd with?
Can you imagine banning black people from a pub because they 'have a tendency to rob?' The CRE would be apoplexic. Horrible pub, terrible beer, fascist company door policy. Close it down.
|
Horrible, horrible, horrible place. Avoid.
|
It had been about 6 years since I had been in this Yatess (just after it changed from Capital Caf) until I went at the weekend for an afternoon drink.
It hadnt changed at all from what I remember, lots of tourists and a few young kids lining their stomachs with the all day breakfast so that it can be deposited onto the street later that night.
Music channel was too loud for an afternoon and a spritzer consists a quarter of a glass of wine, yet you pay full price the most expensive soda in the land.
Great if you like the Yatess experience, but I think Ill give it a miss.
|
This is easily the scabbiest place on Leicester Square. It is absolutely full of chavs who will endeavour to make you spill their drink and then start on you.
|
Ive been here a couple of times, but not for a fair while now. It used to be a fairly trendy and extremely expensive place, which could get packed to the rafters on weekend nights. Judging by some of the reviews below, it hasnt changed much over the last year or so, but in all honesty, I only ever popped in for a couple before the cinema etc and if your going to use it for that purpose, I think its okay enough. The pub next door is of course the cheaper option though.
HTM69 - 25 Aug 2006 15:34 |
Most Yates's generally tend to be nasty, but this place rivals Tiger, Tiger in terms of awfulness.
Rancid, costly nitro-keg beers are only the tip of the iceberg, with the clients a distrubing mixture of bling and ming, and lads and slags.
Avoid unless you are a pleb.
|
Erm, why anyone comes here is well beyond me. Yates is supposed to be a chain that provides value for money, along the lines of JDW, isnt it? It fails miserably here as it is overpriced and is total out of line in this policy compared to the rest of the pubs in its group. If you want a value pint, pop nextdoor to the moon underwater. At least JDW know which side their bread is buttered on.
|
Why why why does this awful brand still exsist Laurel should be ashamed of this not that their other brands are much better.
juzza - 23 May 2006 09:51 |
Akin to hell on earth. Leicester Square amazes me - it is like someone had opened a portal to grim provincial "booze Britain" right in the centre of London. And yet the tourists flock here. If this is truly what visitors to London like, I think Croydon should take note and sell itself as the new cultural capital of the UK.
anonymous - 3 May 2006 11:17 |
Firstly the doorstaff are atrocious and seem to think that only groups of an equal female to male ratio should be allowed in after 8pm. If you're in a large group and there happens to be 1 or 2 single people with you then they don't let you in, how ridiculous is that?
Once inside it's not a bad Yate's apart from the over inflated prices (especially for the area), good music and atmosphere if you're actualyl allowed in by Fred Flintstone and his mates on the door.
|
Busy every night of the week and very very busy at weekends, get there early if you dont want to queue! Cheap prices considering location, especially weekdays, djs every night and a big dancefloor aswell.
anonymous - 25 Mar 2006 05:32 |
Went there on a Friday didnt get allowed in as we had to girls with us, There were only two of us ! Thought this was a bit OTT. Get there early to get in !
|
Some of these comments are a little harsh, and probably ill-advised. Yates is a good bar for London workers on a Friday night, lots of good music, friendly people dancing and drinking. The cocktails are good, if a little pricey. There's lots of nice-looking friendly bar staff and nice looking chaps around. The disadvantage is that, it's true, you really do have to fight some of the more eager ones off. I don't think that's something management can really control though! The doormen are strict with drunkards and louts, yes, but it means I've never experienced any nasty situations within Yates.
|
Awful place !
The guards at the entrance are very rude.
|
I have been to several yates's round the country, but this one needs to sort itself out. I went at lunchtime and waited 10 mins at the bar, food took 25 mins and cold, no manager to be seen. To make it worse, the same group of people went back after work around 8pm and was turned away because there was not enough women with us!!!! 6 men and 2 women, all dress in suits as we are solicators, and just finished work. Hence none of us will be going back as there are plenty of bars happy to take our money.
|
Yates`s holds a lot of funny memories for me. I have been going there for a good couple of years and if I go there on a friday or saturday night then I usually have a really fun time. Its location is perfect and it attracts a wide range of people. It is situated right next to the Capital FM studio (right above actually!) which is probably why I have seen a few celebrities in Yates. Music is varied so suits all tastes really! Dancefloor is always packed, infact the whole place is so if you want a rest good luck because there usually isnt enough seats. There are two poles on the dancefloor which are popular after a few drinks have been consumed! Staff are all very friendly, if only friendly enough to bring down the drink prices though! Once or twice I have spent around a tenner on just one drink so just make sure you visit the cashpoint before going in there.
|
I nornally hate Yates pubs, but this one is different probably because of its location, you get a different crowd, tourists etc.
Saturday night, the girls were fine, barstaff quick to serve and the DJ played a good mixture.
anonymous - 9 May 2005 20:22 |
You'll have a more authentic experience drinking in a Pizza Hut.
Good that it exists though as it attracts all sorts of twits who otherwise might be in danger of going somewhere I might go to.
|
Have been there a few times and it rocks most nights of the week. Reasonably priced beers considering the location and some top totty, however, unfavourable ratios if you are a guy because of this.
|
last night was the second time i have been here and the second time that i have had a great night. its always busy, the people are very friendly and the atmosphere was brilliant. after getting over the initial surprise of the amount of people wanting to dance with me (or grope me) i had a great night, although it would have been even better if the drinks had been cheaper! just be warned ladies, you do have to fight the men off here, although i will be visiting again soon........
|
Went there last year and although the music wasn't bad and it was pretty packed, the drinks are WAY too expensive! Plus it was full of pervy foreign guys which i suppose is ok i you like that sort of thing, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Oh and if you want a lollipop from the loos just nick one when the woman is asleep or something coz my mate got caught and was rather embarrassed lol.
|
Altough more expensive than Weatherspoons you are more likly to get a seat in here.
|
Bring back the Capital Cafe. Went here a few weekends ago on a Friday night. It was absolutely packed, took 15 minutes to get served. Had a very ammusing conversation with the barman. Q. do you have any real ale? A. What? Q. real ale, do you have any? A. I don't understand Q. Cask ale? A. I'm sorry sir I don't know what you are talking about, I don't know waht ale is. My wife and I settled for a glass of wine instead.
|
I found this pub very friendly and the service was excellent! Very efficient and super friendly bar staff, escpecially Chris.
mags - 22 Jul 2004 10:07 |
Fairly classy venue.Does heave at the weekend with ben sherman wearing blokes and women trying to be posh spice for the night. However the actual beer is always very good quality, the draught stella for example, and the loud music provides good party atmosphere.
Nick Hamer - 4 Jun 2004 18:39 |
Been here a few times and agree that it is probably the best of all the Yates' bars. There is always a good atmosphere no matter what time of day you visit. Have even enjoyed the food on a few occasions. Reasonably efficient service. On the whole, a thumbs up.
Daisy - 1 Jun 2004 15:18 |
the door man are racist in this pub , they dont let the forener in , and they look for small reason to kik them out , they ask forener to bring girl with them but other people no.
|
Enjoyed Yates's very much. Music was good and the atmosphere was very lively, good to see everyone up and dancing. However, there wasn't enough bar staff to accomodate the amount of people inside it. You would end up waiting up to 20 minutes for a drink whilst at the front of the queue! Overall, a good experience though.
Al - 29 Feb 2004 13:34 |
Very poor. Too busy and only TWO people behind the bar.
Won't be going again. Ever.

Best Yates Bar i have been to. Lively, entertaining, nicely busy even on Sunday evenings. Staff friendly and efficient. Met some good characters there after Rugby World Cup Parade. Like it.

fun place to go...lots of americans and others!
er - 16 Dec 2003 10:02 |
Yates is cool for somewhere to go after work. It closes pretty late compared to other pubs/bars but the DJ switches the music too often - one minute 50 Cent and the next heavy rock!
Vic - 12 Nov 2003 14:00 |
Yates's is a cool place to stay after work, a cool place where you can dance.. I went there with colleagues almost every summer night.. so much to remember.
|
ALTOGETHER A GREAT PLACE TO BE!!! BAR STAFF ARE GREAT, AND MANAGERS MORE THAN HELPFUL. A VERY FRIENDLY PLACE TO GO AND A NICE MIX OF PEOPLE. OH AND FAB MUSIC.
RIC ALLCOCK - 20 Oct 2003 13:06 |
I was stunned by the miserly portion on my Steak and Kidney pie, it looked more like a slice of quiche!! Didn't try the beer, but if it was as bad as the food I wouldn't bother.
Mike - 15 Oct 2003 20:04 |
So much fun! Bouncers are really nice! Great music and lively atmosphere. HIGHLY RECOMENDED!!! Drinks are made well. Staff is friendly too. VERY CUTE BARTENDERS!!!!
|
I usted to work in this pub and i had the most best time of my life, it does get very busy bcoz it is very good but as for the other comments on this people should be les judgmental the bouncers on the door are very far from meathead they may look like ones but the most nices people i know. !!!!!!!!!!
sam - 21 Aug 2003 19:51 |
If you like trying to chat up Japanese girls in pidgin English whilst being jostled by meat-heads who make Joey Deakin look like Albert Einstein then this is the place for you. The almost constant drink deals sweeten a very bitter pill: but the fact that you have to shout to be heard; get your pint spilled because it gets so packed it is impossible to move; and are more likely to pull if English isn't your first language then you can see why I have a deep-seated loathing of this place.
Meister - 4 Aug 2003 16:03 |
Nice place-worth a visit-can get really busy-but go-super really.
belgrave square boy - 14 Jul 2003 12:34 |
Great on Sunday nights, with DJ playing mostly RnB, fun-loving crowd, free entry before 10:30pm and open 'till 1am.

Good for a few drinks after work on a Friday, visited by friendly crew just chilling out after a hard week.
Summer - 4 Apr 2003 16:54 |
Just had a minor refurb, not too different really. Now has a cloakroom, few more plasma screens and a few new products (flavoured vodkas, Hoegarden).
Make sure you tip the staff lots - we work hard ;)
Oh, we're open til 1am 7 days a week too.

Frequented by "jail bait" and clueless tourists.
Open late on Friday & Saturday night.

Used to be the Capital Cafe. Shame.
