The Litten Tree, Skegness

How it rated 5.5 before I got here is totally beyond me. Yes it does real ale but that came with a head of 2 inches and was not going to be topped up without calling the barman back. The food took over an hour to arrive and was rubbish that was not even well cooked. One word - avoid.

The Hat and Feather, Bath

This was my local when I was a student in Bath in the late eighties and early nineties. Smiles Best and Thatchers Cider. Gutted that its closed. Popped a few years ago after my mates funeral and it was apparent it was on a bit of a downward spiral then. Will have to rely on the memories - if I can remember any of them.

The Dog and Bone, Lincoln

Learn to spell - surely you mean cliquey. And surely most local pubs are as they are dependent on their locals for their main income. There are a lot of locals at the Dog and for some reason, dispite being a disparate lot, we all seem to get on rather well (at least to each other's faces). However, I do believe the vast majority of the locals are very very welcome. There are no "who are you" stares. No cold shoulders. Usually, someone says something friendly to break the ice (I know I often do) and any sign of friendliness from someone who is new is usually reciprocated.

Aren't all pubs overpriced - apart from Wetherspoons where the beer is knocking on the door of past its best before date.

The Jolly Brewer, Lincoln

Further to my earlier comment - I have been in a couple of times a few weeks apart since and the beer was very good. So big well done to the Jolly Brewer. I am pleased to say that I will not be fearing my next visit.

The Blacksmiths Arms, Lastingham

Superb little (if a bit overcrowded) pub with and excellent range of beers. Have to add though that I went in here a few years ago when it was also a micro-brewery. What happened to those beers - they were superb!

The New Inn, Cropton

Excellent beer, excellent location (you only go if you know of the place and you like proper pubs) and a very good pub. Only gripe is that if you have kids, you have to sit in out of the way places.

The Cheshire Cheese Inn, Hope

My previous comments:
"I have just spent a couple of days walking in Derbyshire and the guest house I stayed in was half a mile up the road from this pub.

That was very lucky. This is an excellent pub to have as your local. Five well kept real ales including guest beers. Good friendly local atmosphere. Walkers welcome complete with boots. Two log fires. Excellent food (booking advisable).

I will be staying just up the road (or actually at the pub) again."
still apply. So much so I am rating it again two years later after being to the peaks (and this pub) four times (x3) in the meanwhile.

The Jolly Brewer, Lincoln

Have refrained from posting soc landlady is a friend of a friend.
Good comments first:
Good atmosphere, good music (especially open mic night) and good friendly staff.
Bad comment (but unfortunately the most important)
The beer (real ale) is consistently very very bad. At its best, it is dull and lifeless. At its second best, it is dull lifeless and off (tastes yeasty) at its worst, it does not bare mentioning. The amount of times I have had a good pint in here you can count on one finger. If they sort this out and keep a good pint it will be a good pub but what is the main reason for going to a pub if you are a real ale drinker?

The Dog and Bone, Lincoln

Under new management - beer just as good and the welcome and atmosphere is even better.

Currently under threat by a change of use application so letters to the relevant authorities welcome.

The Castle Hotel, Hope Valley

This is a nice enough pub atmosphere and food wide but the only real ales that were on offer were Bass and Tetleys and they are just awful.
