Nothing but praise for The Plough. Having made a booking at a nearby pub that was cancelled at short notice The Plough stepped into breach and looked after us superbly; even took photos of our machines!

A reservation for a party of approx. twenty guests was made several months ago and a phone call was made from the pub well in advance to confirm the booking. However, within days of the booked date we were informed that due to kitchen refurbishment they could not cater for our group leaving very little time to find an alternative as the date for the gathering had been published in our club journal. Far more notice should have been given and my suggestion that should we book at The Sorrel Horse in the future a substantial discount would be offered by way of compensation fell on deaf ears.

We got a very nice meal here, real homely cooking but no beer from the hand pumps-why?
16 Mar 2016 23:00
Looking for a meal the signs outside indicated that food was served here-it wasn't
Not impressed.

First visit since new management took over. Very pleasant experience it was too.
13 May 2015 19:23
Seems to vary each time I call.At one time staff spent more time chatting amongst themselves than serving customers. I walked out. To be fair previous visits have been OK.

Best pub for miles around. Even the smoking area is heated in winter-what a bonus!

The Fox and Hounds, Bradfield St George
Went to search for this pub. Long since closed. Don't go looking for it.
10 Feb 2015 16:26
Very pleasant pub.Nice atmosphere and good food, recommended.
28 Nov 2014 16:26
Truly excellent pub in a beautiful village. Highly recommended.

Since my last review of March 2011 I've paid another visit to King's Head. If you are looking for straightforward Sunday Roast at an affordable price don't go near this place. Everything on the menu is very expensive and the bill of fare is not for the average diner; all very stylish with prices to match.

See my comment of Nov. 2010. We've been back today (28th Sept. 2014). Just as good as the last time!

The Golden Boar Inn, Freckenham
In response to Tina 1666 who doubted that any restaurant/pub would accept a booking for 25 or so without a deposit, that has not been my experience. Some places have been delighted to get that kind of business with no ifs or buts.
I still maintain the snob factor applied at The Golden Boar. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll turn up in a Porsche (if I had one) and see what happens.

My group was so impressed that they said "When can we go again". I think that says it all.

The Windmill Inn, Great Cressingham
The Sunday Roast was very nice but there did not appear to be any other options.
15 Apr 2014 22:28
I enquired about a booking for Sunday lunch for about twenty guests. I was told that a deposit of £10 was required. When I said this was not possible this was revised to £5. We have to ensure that people who book actually turn up I was told. Having been making similar bookings at other places for many years where a deposit was not requested, I was left with the impression that I was not trustworthy. Consequently I cannot comment on food or drink at this place.
11 Apr 2014 17:24
Not Impressed. Only one staff member on duty who had to serve at the bar and take food orders. Poor girl got into quite a muddle resulting very slow service. Food unremarkable so a second visit is not contemplated.
11 Apr 2014 17:09
I understand The plough has only reopened recently. The new management have a nice job of refurbishment and although my booking for twenty for Sunday lunch was made at short notice we were well looked after. Food was good and Adnams on handpump. Good pub, recommended.
23 Mar 2014 17:19
More than expeected of our group turned up for Sunday Lunch but that was no problem to the licencees.Space was found for everyone and the Roast was excellent.
23 Feb 2014 21:25
Excellent pub, great food and friendly staff.Who could ask of more?
27 Jan 2014 10:20
Had a delightful Sunday meeting here with fellow club members. Be prepared to pay a little more than the avarage for Sunday roast but the quality and quantity justified the price.

The Triple Plea Inn, Halesworth
Pleasent, spacious pub with friendly staff. Sunday Roast rather pricey for what was on the plate.
28 Aug 2013 15:34
Reopened recently after complete refuburbishment. It's now a restuarant that sells drinks. A recent visit was not a good experience. We were greeted with "Have you booked?" No, we called on the off chance and were lead to a table for two. Why a specific table I don't know since the place was nowhere near full. We could have sat anywhere. We ordered Soup of the Day which I assume was left over veg that had been put through the liquidiser. It came with just one slice of bread so my wife asked for more. Only when checking the bill we found that that extra bread cost £2 for two slices! True, big money has been spent on this place but it's no longer a pub as such.
21 Aug 2013 10:25
Excellent pub, full of character.Quality food, helpful staff. Ticked all the boxes for me.
20 May 2013 10:48
Pleasant pub in a rural setting. Obliging staff but very limited menu for Sunday Lunch.
7 May 2013 17:09
Lovely homely pub that serves excellent food. Not had one those ghastly "upgrades" thank goodness!

The Westleton Crown, Southwold
As £10 per head for block booking was requested we won't be patronsing The Crown. We felt as though we could not be trusted to turn up. So, if you thinking of taking a large group to this place-be warned!
17 Mar 2013 21:03
Booked for a party of 20-25 for Sunday Lunch. Every thing was just right-highly recommended.
25 Feb 2013 09:50
Called in recently for Sunday Lunch. The place was almost empty. The lady behind the bar was friendly but explained their lease was due to expire shortly. Meals were ordered and took a long time to be served, bearing in mind there so few patrons. The dining room felt cold (this was February)and there was paint splatters on the chairs. The food was unexceptional but edible.
4 Feb 2013 10:50
I can hardly believe I was in the same pub as Jooliee.
At very short notice they were able to accept a booking for approx.twenty people for Sunday Lunch. On arrival the dining table was beautifully set out and there were many and varied meals to choose from. None of the main courses exceeded £10 plus a selection of Adnam's beers at the bar. Couldn't fault the place, highly recommended.
2 Feb 2013 19:48
A visit here several years ago was not a good experience. As a group of motorcyclists we hustled out of the parking area because according to the landlord there was not enough space left for cars! Well, we were likely to spend the same amount of money no matter how we got there. Naturally, we have not returned.
12 Nov 2012 15:18
Really nice pub, good menu and choice of beers, recommended.
29 Oct 2012 13:49
Can't understand why this pub got such a low rating. On a recent visit we found the food to be first class. Therewas a good choice of beers and the landlord was very welcoming. Recommended.
26 Sep 2012 10:16
What a disaster area! Externally, this looked like an inviting pub. However, I made the mistake of making a booking for a party of twenty-five before ordering a meal. Had I have known what the service and meal were going to be like I would not have bothered. The meals took ages to be served and were luke warm when they arrived, not to mention being over priced. Only GK IPA was the only Real Ale on sale. Someone's infant would not stop bawling. Too much for it's mother to take it outside? If this is a Greene King tied house may I suggest that someone from the brewers gets a grip of it.
16 Jan 2012 16:49
Brilliant pub! Takes a bit of finding but well worth the effort. The interior is suberb and the current landlord was very welcoming. Highly recommended.
22 Nov 2011 10:34
Absolute winner! This pub has got the lot; great food, well kept beer and a nice garden at the rear.
2 Nov 2011 14:18
Called recently for a meal. Found a table, was told it was reserved but no sign saying so due, apparently, to customers stealing them. Shabby menu cards, items shown overpriced. Won't call again.
8 Jul 2011 10:37
Absolute gem of a pub in a delightful village, not the easiest to find if coming from Yoxford but worth it when you get there.
18 Apr 2011 11:30
Nice pub, nice food, friendly staff, nice location, nice choice of beers. That's all you need to know!

The Beehive Inn, Clacton on Sea
No longer a pub,it's an Indian retaurant, hope it does better since the changeover because it was rubbish as a pub.
6 Apr 2011 21:50
Marvellous pub in a lovely village. Food not the cheapest but top quality. Pub was very busy on my visit, easy to see why.
29 Mar 2011 22:29
Despite previous comments our group had a good day at The Sorrel horse. The pub was extremely busy which was good to see. Food was entirely satisfactory with more than enough on the plates.
21 Feb 2011 12:46
Wonderful carvery and desserts to match. Definately on my "Must call again" list.

The Beehive Inn, Clacton on Sea
Went there once for an evening meal, got chased out of the dining area at 9.30!
19 Nov 2010 11:02
What a difference a few years makes! First visit was fine, no complaints at all.
Second visit: It appears that the Queens Head has gone up market reflected in the menu prices. Didn't feel welcome, possibly because we didn't turn up in a Range Rover or similar vehicle. (There was quite a few of those outside). Friendly village local? I don't think so.
19 Nov 2010 10:29
The Thatchers Arms, Mount Bures
Wonder view across the Stour Valley on a summer's evening, worth going for that alone. Service rather slow on my visit but the pub was very busy at time. Recommended.
17 Nov 2010 16:43
The Racehorse is off the beaten track but well worth finding. Recommended.
17 Nov 2010 16:32
Our M/C club went to this pub for Sunday lunch. It was a first class experience. Huge variety on the menu, nice to find an open air on a cold, wet day. Thoroughly recommended.

The Six Bells, Preston St Mary
I hope things have changed for the better at this pub. Some years ago I organised a Christmas lunch here for thirty guests. As I was about to leave the then landlord calmly told me that twenty or so had not paid for their meals. This was patently untrue and a deliberate con trick. Unfortunately, I made a big mistake by paying the alleged shortfall on my credit card. What I should have done was to call the police and expose this swindler for what he was.
In fact, I should have smelt a rat earlier when it became apparent that out of four handpumps on the bar, only one of them was working. Subsequent enquiries revealed that at least two local breweries would no longer supply this place-I wonder why?

The White Horse Inn, Westleton
Great pub if you like ducks; on the pond, not the menu!
7 Apr 2010 14:14
The Huntingfield Arms, Huntingfield
First rate pub in a lovely village; excellent food and drink.
7 Apr 2010 13:48
I have just returned from the Bull (25/10/09) and can't fault it. Seemed to me the landlady was perfectly sober and no-one out of our group of twenty-five diners had any complaints at all about the food. Recommended.

The Golden Boar Inn, Freckenham
Having agreed with the chap behind the bat that they could accept a booking for approx. 25 people, I then get a phone call from a snooty female demanding payment up front. When I told her that was not possible she said "We don't operate like that" The fact that we were motorcyclists rather than horse racing punters may have had something to do with her attitude.
24 Sep 2009 20:44
I had considered booking this pub for one our regular Sunday meetings but when entering via the back door I found a threadbare carpet and no handle on the Gents toilet door that was enough for me.
24 Sep 2009 20:22
The Butt and Oyster, Chelmondiston
My first visit recently. Original choice was Freston Boot but evening meals were not available after 8.30 so moved on the Butt & Oyster. The waiter (Landlord, Manager?) who took our order came from the Basil Fawlty Charm School but I think that was a bit tongue in cheek. The meals were superb. Only snag is the access road-very narrow and parking space is hard to find.
24 Sep 2009 20:04
For five successive years I organized a Christmass Lunch for about forty guests at the Griffin which was a delight. Food & staff were great. On attempting to book for the sixth time I found new people in charge. I was assured that a Christmass menu would be sent to me; it wasn't so they were clearly not interested in accepting my booking and another pub got the order(see Kettleburgh Chequers).

The Blue Boar, Walsham le Willows
The best Sunday roast I've had for ages and a delicious strawberry pavola to follow!
19 Aug 2009 09:46
completely refurbished to a high standard and renamed The Donkey
26 Jun 2009 13:45
One of my favourites, never had a bad evening there. Even the live music is not intrusive in the dining area.
25 Jun 2009 23:26
A disaster area! Unwelcoming bar staff. My friend was served with chicken that raw in the middle (potentially dangerous). Refund grudgingly given, shall not be returning.
25 Jun 2009 23:18
Quite agree with Biggles. We hadrallies there when Tony Smith was the landlord. Why do they think these "upgrades" are an improvement?
25 Jun 2009 23:08
Our Motorcycle club has had two Christmas lunches and two camping weekends(about to have a third) at this marvellous pub. The hosts, Ron and Debbie couldn't do enough for us. Food & drink is A1 and the B&B units in the grounds are better appointed than most hotels. Go there, you'll like it!
