The Drewe Arms, Broadhembury

Landlord and landlady relatively new and go for it now, had a fantastic sunday lunch - choice of lamb or home cooked whole gammon - haven't seen that on a pub menu for years and was delicious. Huge selection of veg and good roasts too - local beer (yellowhammer) and absolutely packed with people. Only downside is parking dreadful in the pretty village, but will be going back to try a roast beef soon. Excellent all round.

Dull, listless and unmotivated barstaff, probably reacting to the actively rude landlord. Enquiry about local beers met with unjustified invective about how awful they all are (patently not true as a pint in any decent Devon pub would show). Unappealing position and design of place not helped by the worst service possible.

The Nog Inn, Feniton

Proper old fashioned village pub, chatty friendly landlord and 'local' without feeling like a closed shop. Locally made 'Yellowhammer' when I went, rotates beers and it was well kept.

I so agree with nirvanerd. The bloke is rude, horrible and self important (can you tell I fell out with him?) He actually pulled the glass of wine out of my Mother in Law's hand when we went there for Sunday lunch because I denied that the car parked in his space was mine, and threw us all out. We didn't have a car with us. We didn't pay either.

The Boringdon Arms, Turnchapel

Used to be a fantastic pub until punch taverns bought it and invoked beer ties. Landlord has probably lost the will to live

The Exeter Inn, Thorverton

Great pub, great village, friendly locals. Roaring fire in winter, enormous beer garden in summer and such good prices - a proper free house with regular and guest ales.

The Castle Inn, Bradninch

Great beer choice of well kept local Ales including Stormstay my favourite and Yellowhammer, fave of other half. Amazing fireplace carved by local craftsman. Atmosphere depends on who's in the bar, very local oriented and no food

Most generous Sunday Roast I've found locally - always good and fab roast potatoes.

The Five Bells Inn, Clyst Hydon

This is closed for refurb and is being taken over by the owner of the Jack in the Green in Rockbeare. This probably means it will be a food pub when it reopens.

Culm Valley Inn, Cullompton

Fantastic dog friendly pub, not a jukebox or fruit machine on the premises but a wide choice (ever changing) of real ales and the most startlingly good food. (Surprisingly reasonable too) Excellent shellfish, Sunday Roasts and unusual dishes all cooked on the premises, but still very much a pub not a restaurant. Open fires, small garden but big river walk access - good easy parking and a very easy going pub all round. In my opinion exactly what a country pub should be. Apparently have quite random bands/magicians/pianists turning up on occasion but not on the 4 or 5 days when I have been there.

Aylesbeare Inn, Aylesbeare

Maybe they were having a very bad day. Very surly and rude barmaid and a lot of swearing and shouting from back room. Almost empty apart from drunk in corner and one man trying to get as many pints in as possible in his lunch break. No ambience.
