Saw the sign on the A46 and decided to try it for a pub lunch.
Smallish pub in village centre. Warm welcome from the landlord, decent choice of well-kept, tasty doorstep sandwiches and a fine ham ploughmans kept a smile on our faces.
Clearly popular with locals at lunchtime; the place was quite full by the time we left.

The Waggon and Horses, Batheaston
Old exterior at odds with modern, lounge-style interior.
Made very welcome. Good beer at modest prices. The lunch menu was varied and interesting.
We plumped for sandwiches and a Ploughman's. The sandwiches were generous doorsteps & well garnished. The Ploughman's was execellent, with Stilton, a mature Cheddar and a ripe Brie.
The only drwaback was the inexplicable closure of the terrace, with its wonderrful views back towards Bath.

The Partridge Inn, Singleton
Been going to the Partridge and its former incarnation the Fox and Hounds regularly over the last 12 years.
It's definitely a favourite of mine - well kept beer, very good food sourced from quality local suppliers, attentive efficient staff and spotlessly clean.
Today I learnt that Tony and Dawn have sold up and will leave at the end of March, disillusioned by an apparent impossibility to make a profit over the winter months.
I was appalled - if a place this well-run can't survive, who can? A black day for Singleton and the region.
Haste ye back Tony & Dawn - and thanks for all your hard work over the last 12 years.
