The Tap O' The Brae, Armadale

Name of Establishment: Tap O�the Brae
General Comments: Clean. Smoke free. Good range of spirits, beer, wine. Bar meals.
Bar Length / Access: Limited. Crowded. Felt like I was imposing on some of the regular fixtures when I went to order my pint.
Exterior: Bland. Low elevation.
D�cor: Made a stab at Armadale history with old photos of the town circa the turn of the last century. Otherwise uninspired.
Patrons: Late middle age. Mostly men. Looked liked they had spent much of their lives in this place. Boisterous, and foul-mouthed.
Favourite adjective in patrons� conversation: F***ing
Recreation / Diversions: Pool table. This is where the younger crowd (a distinct minority) seemed to hang out. They seemed sort of depressed. Juke box.

The Regal Bar, Armadale

General Comments: Clean. Smoke free. Good range of spirits, beer, wine.
Bar Length / Access: Good. Two mirror image rooms opposite each other. Unfortunately, one needs to go out into the entryway to get between them.
Exterior: Older grey sandstone building. Well maintained. Traditional lacquer paint sign. Black on deep red - attractive. Could have done with some hanging flowerpots or similar fixtures to brighten it up a bit.
D�cor: Generic 20 century English pub. Recently renovated. Coherent, minimalist, and tasteful.
Patrons: Full age range. Lively but well behaved. A couple of spills on the new carpet while I was there.
Favourite adjective in conversation: F***ing.
Recreation / Diversions: None evident apart from beverage alcohol.
