The Square and Compasses, Fairstead

Sitting outside, in the small pub garden, when the sun is shining is, well, just peace and quiet - delightful !!!

Ooops .... did I say pub ? We visited one Friday evening. Every table was laid out with cutlery and serviettes - not very encouraging for you average drinker ! So, I would venture to say that this is, in fact, a restaurant that serves beer ; not a pub that serves food.

Attracted by the idyllic setting, I visited four times last year, and once more recently. Five beers drunk, four of which I rated poor to undrinkable. All this, and yet they won a CAMRA good beer award ? Amazing !!. Well, at least I persisted.

The Bell, Purleigh

Lovely pub !!!

It's a "ye olde worlde" oak beamed pub, allowing great views over the countryside.

3-4 real ales, including Maldon Gold and Old Bob. A varied lunch menu - the food was excellent.

Previous posters have refered to the friendly, helpful attitude of the staff, and this is so true. But what made my stay was Siobhan. Every pub should have a Siobhan. Her sales and serving skills were a joy ; really made us feel at home.

We enjoyed our time at the Bell and will certainly revisit.

The Three Horseshoes, Comberton

What an excellent find this was! Great little pub, tucked away in a village about 6 miles south of the A428 Cambridge / St Neots road.

Olde-worlde type pub; very neat and tidy. It also has a very large and pleasant garden [ which was a suprise ].

Four real ales including Doom Bar and Pride of Pendle [both of which were most drinkable].

However, as good as the beer was, the food was even better. It took me ages to munch my way through the excellent Chicken and Leek pie, veg and chips - outstanding !!

Well recommended - this is the sort of pub you would want to visit again and again.
