Nice enough boozer, good selection of drinks and very spacious. Nothing to write home about but better than most pubs in the area.

Nice boozer but usually far, far too packed and can take a lifetime getting served. Loads of suits in here.

The Tide End Cottage, Teddington
Great boozer, went in this weekend and the landlord was very accomodating - even put on MOTD when it came on.
Got a very homely feel to the pub, will definitely be going here again. The anglers next door has gone right down hill.

decent enough boozer but as one punter said, the garden is more a kids playground. don't think if ever eaten here so can't comment on the food. Huge place.

The Robert Peel, Kingston Upon Thames
Do they still have the muff round the back?
Used to go here when I was 16/17 and get recked on cheap lager and weed - happy days!

Same as the other o'neills - decent choice of beer, good prices, decent munch...

I agree, for hotel bars this is great. Beutiful decor, great menu, friendly staff and the comfyest chairs in the world. Certainly not a night out in itself but great starting place

I feel compelled to write another review now they have got the football back.
Went in there Sunday gone and had as great time, which is weird cos I was on my own. Got a seat bang in front of the flat screen and ordered some food. In less than 10 minutes I was eating - sausage and mash, wasnt cheap, or the largest portion but it was lovely, especially with the caramelised onions. Then proceeded to watch my team win and, more importantly Chelsea lose. Throughout the afternoon I was plonked in that seat a number of people came and went, all ages. Many were with there families and there were roast dinners flying out the kitchen like they were going out of fashion. The good thing is with the C&H even though the football is on and most people are watching it theres plenty of other stuff going on yet nothing seems to conflict with the other and nothing drowns the other out. For instance even those that were not watching the football were not pissed off or struggling to hear each other such is the setup.
I guess what Im trying to say is, along with the Christmas tree, the warmth and the general ambience I had a great pub experience.

The Swan and Helmet, Northampton
Nice enough boozer, big screen, friendly staff decent beer etc...
One thing I would say is that across one of the beams in the beer garden, amonst the slogans such as live the dream etc is
"being born in a stable doesnt make you a horse" !!
I can only assume the late Mr Manning used to drink here!

Nice little boozer although more like a take away in that once you get your beer you usually piss off outside - that said its winter now so you'll probably see it more rammed, people clambering for space etc...
Nice beers.. always been proper langered everytime ive gone in to be fair!

Very friendly landlord and generally nice boozer. Only eaten there once, fish and chips and it was really nice.
Good little smoking area/ heated area out back with a flat screen for the footy. Nothing amazing but generally nice little boozer, one of the more homely-feeling rubadubs in richmond

All the barmaids in here have the fattest tits! That reason alone, along with the odd bit of footer, cheap drinks and comfy sofas are a good reason to pop in.
More a student union than a pub, but strangely endearing all the same
2 Dec 2008 13:59
More a locals pub (like the star further down) but ok nonetheless ie not too many strange looks. Since the fattys moved on to pastures new theres more space

Nice little boozer, friendly bar staff. The wind blew my pint over (along with all my papers) when I was sat in the garden and the guy behind the jump got me a free refill.
Nice big pull-down screen for when the footer is on. Given its on the main high street they do pretty well to keep the riff-raff out. Gorgeous pizza's.

Charming little boozer, if not slightly cramped. Loads of paddys playing spontaneously with their diddly-diddly guitars, spoons etc.. great atmosphere

" the locals tell me (pffft) that the quality of the beer has improved significantly and the food is the nicest as far as any pub on Kew Bridge road goes "
-Well the locals must be very stupid indeed then as there really was no excuse for the joke of a meal they served me with. Beers are fine, food appalling.
A dull lifeless pub - bit like the one in snatch.

St Margarets Tavern, St Margarets
LOL a public hair, I think you mean pubic. Either way that's disgusting and I don't blame you. Funny how contrasting some punters experiences are!

The Twickenham Tup, Twickenham
Decent boozer, just set slightly off the high street which is probably a rather shrewd move - dont just get any little oik turn up. Quite expensive, but generally nice atmosphere and decent place to have a few beers.

As somebody already mentioned, for a station pub this is very good. The guy who runs the place is probably one of the nicest, most professional guys youll see behind a jump - always friendly and helpful. This rubs off on the staff also - always very cheery and accomodating. The menu has a good selection and the food is always very tasty and you never have to wait long either. Always good for football, they often show more than one match which is perfect if its champs league. Good smoking area out front with big bench tables and heating. Only complaint is that because its a station pub sometime the odd dick head falls off the train into the pub. Then again, ive never seen any trouble in here and ive been going for a good few years.
Probably in the top 3 pubs in Kew

A decent enough boozer, all the more so since being taken over by the Power family. Still got a fairly bad rep but on the whole its picking up.

The William Web Ellis, Twickenham
Obscenely cheap prices, I went in here a few weeks ago and ordered 5 pints and still got change from a tenner! Not necessarily the kind of place youd wanna stay all night but not bad for a starting point ie before oceana etc..
Some times youve gotta just stop the moaning and get on with it... No its not a great pub to spend your whole evening but anyone with half a brain would know that anyway. These pubs serve one purpose and one purpose only - to get oven-ready for the night ahead. So long as you know and accept that wheres the problem?!!

Nice boozer, decent atmosphere. Always busy, great food, plenty of beers and ales to pick from. Only complaint is that they dont show the footer but I spose theres plenty of places in Twickers that do, and to some this is a nice alternative

Great boozer, a little pricey in comparison to say the sorting room but still with a good atmosphere, pool, darts, fruities, wii on big screen, footy, pinball, loads of seats and space what do you expect. The nightclub isnt that bad either, if not a little pokey.
4 Oct 2008 14:35
Nice boozer, decent prices and a smoking hot foreign barmaid! Not sure why they have teapots hanging all over the place but Ill let it slide! Is it me or does the boy behind the jump, PJ remind you of and irish Curly Watts?!

Joes Bar and Restaurant, Hampton Hill
Decent enough boozer, but as one punter put it its more a restaurant than anything else. Family run place, the service is always good. The chef and his brother have a very bad gambling addiction - theyre always in the bookies down the road blowing their hard-earned bollocks... So long as they dont put the prices up to compensate ill stay loyal!
4 Oct 2008 14:29
Much better as Cafe Society, this place is more of a starting point for the evening than an evening itself. Pumped about 500k into doing itself up a few years ago and its just constantly dead! Maybe its the size... My mate summed it up when he said it tries to hard and that its more a "pretty pub" than anything else. Good on a friday, saturday night - usually full of fanny - The majority of its paying customers come from the Insurance place across the road.

Duke of Clarence, Hampton Hill
A great little boozer, one of the oldest in the area. Prices are quite steep (approx 3.40 a fosters) but good atmosphere makes up for it. It quite small and can get quite busy on the weekends but it has a very homely feel to it and there's never any aggro in there. Good place to meet your mates on a sunday for a quiet hair-of-the dog. A good pub to start at also if youre going out on a banger.
4 Oct 2008 14:19
Decent enough boozer but they don't show as much football now as they used to. Shame.
Place is usually full of old boys.

I've been on BITE a number of times - usually just for a laugh, to see what kind of comments my fave (and least fave) watering holes have gathered. I have never felt compelled however to write my own scathing review - until now that is!
I went to the Waggon and Horses last sunday. A decent enough looking boozer, I was merely looking for somewhere not too far from home to grab a pint, something to eat and watch the footer. When I went in it was pretty much empty, apart from one guy on his own watching the Formula 1 in the corner and the barman. I went up to the bar and asked if the football was on. The guy was Polish, I think and his English was pretty poor. If anything he was the least-credible bartender Ive ever seen. About as much personality as my big toe. "Sorry mate im just here to fill up the Jonny machine" woud have been more plausible answer. He disappeared out the back for what seemed an eternity before returning and telling me that "Yes, we show the foot." Content, I ordered a Fosters and a lazagne and chips. The food came to about 6.95 - Not too bad - the menu was the type youd expect to see in a gastropub so I thought, hopefully the food will be of similar standard.
Having been sat down for about 10 minutes and constantly looking round at the guy to pull the screen down, he finally obliged. Then followed about 5 minutes of blind channel scrolling before he declared, "We don't have the foot." No, what they actually had was some german sky sports package! Handy eh?!
When my food finally arrived it was disgusting. It looked like someone had plonked an Iceland lazagne (from frozen) in the microwave and it hadnt even fully defrosted. It was a square, hard, cheap mess and the chips were poor also. In the short time I had been sat down an old boy in his dog had arrived and the dog was yapping like mad. As you can imagine I was royally peed off by this point. I went up to the bar and paid for my experience by my card. In a funny twist of fate, I had anticipated being there a few hours and had left my card behind the bar. As it turned out I was there all of 20 mins.
In fairness the lady who had been in the kitchen (presumable chief-microwaver) was apologetic that the football was not on and blamed the installation engineer who had "messed it up." She had, however no reservation of charging me the whole amount for my meal, something I returned to her practically uneaten. AND they charged me and extra quid for paying on card!
A joke of a pub, appalling food, people who are totally unsuited to running a pub. Pure rubbish, avoid!
