The Punchbowl, Great Broughton
Love this pub. It was my local when I was growing up and my mum and dad still live across the road so I try and go when I stay with them, and have taken almost everyone else who comes to stay and they all love it. One of the smallest pubs I've ever been to - it's like Albert' front room. Always welcoming, good beer and cider and really cosy in the winter.

We've just moved into the area and this is our new local, and we're pleasantly surprised by it.
Went in last Saturday night for a few drinks and there was a great atmosphere. Theer was a 60th birthday party going on, a few people "ironically" watching the Eurovision song contest and loads of other people just having a drink. I'd imagine the language could get a bit fruity in the vault but the beauty of having two rooms is that it can cater for everyone. Bar staff were friendly and quick.
Went in again on bank holiday Monday with my parents at lunchtime for a bar meal and the food was great and really good value. We'll be making good use of this place I think.

Manhattan Bar and Grill, Altrincham
Appears to now be Club 21, a nightclub, when I ran past on Saturday.

Belgian Bar has opened at this address now - not sure if it is the same bar with a different name or new owners?

I read in Mtero News that this place has now shut down but is hoping to reopne in a new location shortly.

We looked round a house very close to this pub at the weekend and were warned (not for the first time) to avoid this pub like the plague as it's so rough. However the comments on here don't look that bad - so what's the truth of the matter?

What's with the incredibly loud retro rock music that pumps out of this pub into the shopping street outside during an average Saturday afternoon?

Is Warwick Hunt's review in code? i.e. if you put the words in capitals together is it a secret message to someone called Marc about community services fines????!!

The Quarry Bank Inn, Timperley
Quite a fan of this place. Last visited after the fireworks on 7 November -I think half of Timperley turned up when we did but the service remained good and I think it's quite a friendly place. The outdoor area is nice as well, for smokers or otherwise.

The Matt and Phred's Jazz Club, Manchester
Went on Saturday as a surprise from my husband. I know nothing about jazz but had a great night. The band were great, we had a nice table, good bottle of rioja and my Tuscan pizza was ace. Can't comment on the prices though some people have since told me it's pretty pricey, but as you have to book at the weekends it's more of a destination than a place you would just pop in to.
I did notice that in the week, if you buy two drinks early on they'll give you a free pizza - sounds a good deal!

Popped in for a quick drink on Tuesday before going for a meal at the excellent Choice. Was pleasantly surprised. Had a lovely wine (think it was the chardonnay given the descriptions on the board). Plenty of Utd fans in ahead of that evening's match. The food coming from the kitchen smelled lovely and the mix of people was quite nice. Would definitely go in again - the traisns rumbling overhead were quite interesting too!

Tried the cocktails for the first time last night, very good they were too. I think they should start serving pints though - they could have those tall thin ones if they didn't want to spoil their European vibe!

I've never been to this pub, I've never even noticed it but it sounds like an entire comedy documentary could be filmed about it. It makes me want to visit to have a good chuckle.

The Slug and Lettuce, Altrincham
Quite a nice place for a chain but the service is rubbish. We went last night and despite it being quiet no-one collected glasses or wiped tables in the hour we were there (there was a load of red bull on our table) and the barmaid made a massive fuss when my friend changed her mind about her drink, despite the fact she hadn't started making the drink yet.

Went in last night (Saturday) for a few drinks. Nice atmopshere, bar staff friendly and they brought out free bacon butties at 10.45 so we were really pleased we stayed for that last drink!
Only minor gripe is we had three rounds of a pint of Golden lager and a small glass of red wine and it cost a different amount each time (probably due to the array of different wines).

It is a shame they didn't put the beer garden round the back and away from the main road, with all the land they have (currently used as car park) you would have thought that was possible.

Went in yesterday for a couple of drinks while the sun was shining. The draft cider was off but other than that the pub was looking nice and we had a nice hour sitting outside. The pub seems to have changed hands and is now a Lees pub so all the beers had changed (still quite a few real ales and different lagers). New menu since the change of chain so going to check out the food tonight.

Went before a gig a few weeks ago - they have a deal that if you show cinema, theatre or gig tickets you can have 2 pizzas and a bottle of house wine for 10. Excellent deal and a nice little place, I'd like to go back and spend a bit longer there.

Took my brother and cousin who were up from London here last week and Joy Division Love Will Tear Us Apart was playing as they went in - welcome to Manchester!
I really like this place, quite quirky with a good atmosphere. Don't go near the bottled cider though, it was truly horrendous.

Quite like it here - it's one of the best place in quick walking distance from my office as it's not a) chavvy or b) pretentious. The service can be hit or miss though - waiting at the bar for ages while the staff have a chat is always guaranteed to get me annoyed.
Went to a wine tasting in the upstairs function room once and I have to say it was one of the best buffets ever. Have eaten here at lunchtime too and the food was decent.

Went in last Friday after work and at the start of a bit of a session. Great pub. Never too crowded, good atmosphere, the outdoor area is great and the jukebox is excellent. Drinking Cruz Campo makes me feel like I'm holiday too, one of my favourite Manchester city centre bars.

Steamhouse, Urmston
Had a couple of drinks here on Saturday night after a meal at the Italian Job. Really enjoyed it - nice atmosphere, friendly staff, the Halloween decorations were great and the building is really interesting. Lots of buzz about the main bar and the smoking area outside but quieter tables to sit on through in the alcove bit.
The novelty of getting a mini bottle of wine like on a plane was good too!
