Great selection of bottled beers - good range of English ales including Marble Dobber and Thornbridge Jaipur two excellent ales. Had some tapas as well, good. Bar PI down the road to your right is pretty good as well. kernott1 - 2 Oct 2013 21:42 |
Pretty good i thought, good tapas not too noisy and loutish. I wouldn't have said it was ideally sized to bring a massive dog into though, as one patron did on Friday. Great beers, surprisingly good food (tapas). Could maybe do with more food choices other than the tapas though? silvershower - 12 Mar 2012 11:35 |
The images of this bar are from the old Le Trappiste and not the interior of the Belgian bar. smartmart - 19 Feb 2012 22:49 |
Sorry to nit pick with some of the above. The original owner of Le Trappiste Bar (Wyn Reece) moved 50 yards away and is now running the Mort Subite bar in the cellar further along Greenwood St. Le Trappiste was then taken over by Martin, who then moved it to Shaws Rd. I feel the presence of 3 European/ Belgian bars in close proximity adds to the flavour of the Altrincham beer scene and is a good thing. Each offers something slightly different so the best thing to do is to get the tram to Alty and find out for yourselves. This bar has a good food offering and a cosy fireplace in the winter. dominoes - 28 Aug 2011 10:40 |
Please don't be confused, by the Belgian Bar at 40, Greenwood St. This is not Le Trappiste, Le Trappiste has moved just down the street to 18, Shaws Rd, It is Altrincham's original and by far the best Belgian Beer Cafe. They have over 150 fantastic Belgian beers, as well as over 20 English real ales. The bar operating at Le Trappiste's old site, is masquerading and trying to live off Le Trappiste's reputation, which has been built up over the years. It is the best by far, try for yourself if you've not been yet. The previous post is spot on (apart from a slight mispelling of the name). smartmart - 12 Nov 2010 20:32 |
