The Beltane Cafe Bar, Buxton

Now very much open (Jan 2013).

A great pub with great owners. We adopted the pub pre football match at Buxton and was an excellent choice. Must have been a hundred or so of us in there and they kept the excellent local ale flowing continually.

They also produced a stack of bacon sarnies for us!

One of the best football ale sessions I have had in many a year. Thanks to the owners and see you next season

The Castle Inn, Criccieth

Its back open. Was in the first weekend in Sep 2011. A great pub next to the rail station with three local hand pull pumps and the usual selection of fizzy stuff.

The landlord and staff were great and made us feel very welcome as visitors to the town.

The food is top value also. We both had a very substantial main course and a few drinks and the bill was just over 20 quid.

Give it a go if you are in the town as it is a cracking little character pub..

The Three Tuns, Huntingdon

Have to say folks that i agree with the general gist of the comments on here...

Huntingdon appears to be on its arse and the town planners seem to have little if any idea on how to stimulate and regenerate a market town with potential..

Worked in Brampton in 1996 and am back there for the next couple of years and feel somewhat underwhelmed by the visage of Huntingdon High St. What went wrong?

Even the Falcon is finished. That pub has the potential to be the best in town but is boarded up and up for sale. Thank god i can escape north up the A14 and M6 on a Friday for a pint the right side of 2.50..

Harp Inn, Little Neston

Been drinking in here for several years now and have seen the place go through some changes, mostly for the better I hasten to add.

Still a great pub and great to be able to take the dog in withougt the hassle that you get in the foody pubs in the Area.

They are now regulalry stocking Betwixt Beers which are brewed in Birkenhead and are a fine addition to the good selection on offer. The quality of the beer being served has recently been to a high standard and long may it continue.

Not the cheapest place in the area to drink but deffinitely the cosiest..

The Fat Cat, Sheffield

Another fantastic Sheffield watering hole. I am struggling to think of anywhere elese that has 2 oustanding pubs in such close proximity to one another (here and the KIT). The beer garden is very pleasant in the sunshine and the pub has a fantastic selction of ales all very keenly priced. Did not try the food but it looked good as it came past. Will be making another visit in the near future.

The Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield

If only all pubs were like this. Visited on Sat 12 sep 09, as my team, FC United of Manchester were playing Sheffield FC. Made to feel very welcome and it was good to see fans of at least three teams having a pint side by side without any hassle..

The Beer Garden is a real Oasis, the ale was all good and keenly priced and the pie, peas and gravy looked fantastic. Just ran out of time pre-match to sample the food.

Well worth the walk from the train station and will be going back to try again without the football distraction..

The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro

Moodybloo1. I apologise unreservedly for not appreciating that the problem was the technology rather than the general business operation. I hope you are up and running soon with the kit to take card payments as there must be shed loads of people who walk on by when they see that sign..

The beer tester, just got back from Kenya and used the cards to pay for quite a lot of goods and services. Kenya is in the developing world and in some aspects, could be said to be 150 years behind the UK in its growth, development and atitude. So where exactly does that leave yourself and arguably parts of Cornwall in regard to using the "spastic plastic" as you so thoughtfully and respectfully put it?

Yours........always pay cash when binge drinking.......sam pig

The Crumplehorn Inn, Polperro

Good ale in a nice pub. Sat outside chatting to other emmits and enjoyed the atmosphere. Did not eat here so can't comment but the booze and the ambience were fine..

The Noughts and Crosses, Polperro

This is one of those strange pubs that makes me wonder why the people running it decided to go into the service industry, clue being that running a pub is providing a service in exchange for money.

So, in this day and age, how can any publican justifiably put a notice in the window saying "no cheques, credit cards or debit cards are accepted here", or words to that effect.

The first thing that indicates to me is the Landlord is working cash only to avoid declaring all the money that is going through the tills. Why would that be? Considering most people now carry ready cash for drinks etc but the default setting for meals is plastic, how on earth does the Landlord expect to make any money?

The mind boggles at what Gordon Ramsay would have to say about the Noughts and Crosses. Funnily enough, on a busy sunny August Sunday, the two nearby pubs were done out whereas this one was almost empty.. Coincidence? Probably not...

The Three Pilchards, Polperro

We ate here on the sunday especially for the fish pie and to be honest, was a little dissapointed.

Cracking local scallops for starters but then had to wait for nearly an hour for the main, which unfortunately did not live up to expectations. To be honest, it seemed quite obvious that they had forgotten about us as we were sat on the terrace outside which was deserted even though it provides amazing views of the harbour.

The ale and the pub itself were fine but we were a bit let down by the scran.

The Blue Peter, Polperro

Well, after a gap of some 10 years since i last visited the Blue Peter, we approached with a slight air of uneasiness as some of the comments on here did not fill me with glee..

Nothing to worry about. What a pub. Absolutely fantastic and made to feel so welcome on a particularly busy sunny Sunday in August. We popped in at lunch for a couple of liveners and then spent the evening in there with our dog.

Great ale served in one of the best pubs in the country and the best pub in the village by a country mile (and that is from an impartial non-local).

I just wish it was not so far from my house..

The Blackstock, Finsbury Park

Hey, Fussywhore, the reason people go in places like this are to avoid the usual wa**** that patronise most drinking establishemnt's inside the M25. God bless the Blackstock, an unspoilt Khazi for decades..

If you don't get it, there will be an aluminium clad hell hole not far away for you..
