The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton
Information for 'anonymous - 31 Oct 2007 15:56'. The Langton Arms had for many years a very good chef 'Francis Baumer' who was responsible for winning the awards for the pub. He left a couple or so years ago and at that time the quality also dropped. Unfortunately the pub no longer has any atmosphere, it is no longer a country village pub but just happens to be in the country (if that makes sense). I have given up going there and as someone else said try the True Lovers Knot in Tarrant Keyneston, it is pretty good.

My partner and I had lunch here the other day and were pleasantly surprised. The food was very good, we had a snack, and were very impressed with content and service. The staff are polite and helpful and take time to ask if your needs are being catered for. It is a little pricey but you get what you pay for and one cannot object to that. Ambience excellent.

I have made comments about this pub before which have always been favourable, however I went there recently with friends and was very much put off by the rough service. We were four taking lunch in the inside eating area close to the door leading to the kitchen; not ideal but my real concern was the total lack of interest that the waitress displayed. The plates were 'plonked' on the table, no comment from her e.g. hope you enjoy your meal or something similar. She was clearly pissed of at having to work when the sun was shining outside. When my plate was put down some of the salad fell onto the floor; she didn't notice or chose not to so there was no comment from her. We had taken friends there hoping to impress; no luck i'm afraid. We will probably give it a go sometime in the future as the pub is smashing and the location equally so. Oh, by the way, our food was average.

Since loosing their top long standing chef the standard of food in the restaurant has gone down a bit. It will be a while before I visit again.

Well the re-furb is complete and the TLK has been open for about a month. There is now a nice restaurant area and accomodation. Can't comment on the accomodation but we went there recently for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The old bar has not been touched, apart from a bit of a tidy up, a lick of paint and some new curtains. The oldy pub atmosphere has been maintained and that is great. The new restaurant area adjoins the bar and has been tastefully done. We had a light lunch, local sausage, some mash and peas for me and my partner had a tartlet of crab and prawn, simple but nice fayre and served with a smile. The gov'ner is an outgoing Yorkshiremen. We enjoyed our visit why don't you give it a go?

We went on a lunch time and only had a starter but it was very nice, reasonbly priced and well presented. The 'gaffer' referred to 11Oct2005 was obviously on an off day, he was abrupt and not very friendly. The young woman behind the bar was a lot better. We were first in and it was clear that toilets had not been cleaned, the urinals were mucky. there were two fires on the go in the bar and it was reasonably cosy.
Will not be going again.

A nice pub and although on the main Blandford/Wimborne road has the feeling of a real country pub, good atmosphere and good food. Currently under refurbishment adding accommodation and a larger restaurant area. Watch this space, will keep you posted.

Only discovered this pub in the last year and I totally agree with the comments below. The service food and beer are excellent, and the ambience is just right. Never mind the signal as the use of mobile phones in the pub is banned; great!

This pub, while set in a lovely village, no longer has the feel of a 'country pub'. It was totally revamped after the fire and the main bar changed into a 'modern eating area'; sad as it has lost a lot of it's character. The food in the restaurant, open most evenings, is still good. Bar food not so good.

The Three Oaks, Chalfont St Peter
I had lunch with two friends at the Three Pigeons recently and have to say that we all had an excellent time. The two young ladies in the bar and restaurant area were very polite and helpful and the venue is clean and tidy. Presentation, service and meal content could not be faulted. It was, for us, an excellent choice.
I visit the area a couple of times a year and will certainly return.
