Staying nearby a couple of weeks ago , we were pointed towards this place by comments in the visitors book. What a find. My wife and I called in for a quick drink on the Sunday night to make a couple of bookings during the following week. On every visit we were given a really friendly welcome by whoever was on duty that night. We ate there twice, and all four of our meals were absolutely superb. The steak and kidney pudding I had on the first visit was unbelievable. The pub itself is a fabulous building with all its original features. My only possible criticism is that on our first visit we were given the table nearest to the Inglenook fireplace, and after a few minutes we were both overheating. It used to belong to the long defunct Strong brewery , and the name 'STRONG'is still writ large in red letters on the front of the building. A fine selection of Ringwood ales completed a very fine picture. Ten out of ten , with not a moments hesitation. philanders - 6 Nov 2013 17:49 |
This is a really excellent place. Holidaying in the area and on a walk, we stopped by on a late Saturday lunchtime for lunch which was quite excellent, if somewhat on the pricey side. Drinks were fine too and staff very friendly. micbinks - 21 Jun 2012 16:37 |
In my search for the perfect country pub this is as close as I have got (so far). I visited it several times whilst staying nearby, sometimes for just a drink and twice for meals. The staff, whoever was on duty, were always very friendly and welcoming; the beers were excellent; and the food was excellent as well. The outside is picture perfect, but I especially like the fact that the interior has not been prettified, it has been left genuinely rustic (not fake rustic). One bar has been devoted to food, but there is still a drinker's bar. All in all a pub I could spend a lot of time (and indeed I tried to!!). 10/10. happy_wanderer - 15 Sep 2011 17:15 |
Visited this excellent pub whilst visiting family in Salisbury. The location is to die for - we enjoyed an excellent meal in the garden. The steak and kidney pud (with the trimmings) was a joy, as were the the meals of fish platter and cheddar ploughmans chosen by my other members of my family. I,Personally, not driving , sampled the Palmers Copper Ale followed by the Timothy Taylor and the Bitter? very nice! and well presented. The staff were brilliant and welcoming. This Pub should not be missed rating? 10/10 AstuteAl - 23 Apr 2010 17:04 |
A real log fire was burning nicely in the bar, and I chose the Palmers Copper Ale which was very good, although it was just a bit too cold for me. London Pride and two other ales were also available on the hand pumps. The soup and the cafetiere coffee to follow were fine. Glad to see some of the locals were using the bar as well as some passers by. Worth another visit next time I'm passing this way. Feed - 13 Dec 2008 20:51 |
