Good pub in the back streets of Reddish, set on a corner amongst terraced houses, a bit like the Rovers Return. Cosy and very friendly.
Went in a few months ago and had a pint of Bombardier that was very off, so the barmaid exchanged it for a pint of another cask ale (can't remember which), but this too was off, so plumped for keg Boddingtons instead, which was in good condition!
I'm sure they have sorted these problems now because on a recent visit the Bombardier was excellent, it was the only cask ale available and the barmaid "pulled through" a couple of pints before serving mine. I shall be back!

The Admiral Lord Rodney, Colne
I love this pub! Very friendly bar staff, wide choice of well-kept beers. Good, old-fashioned pub decor that is slightly faded and shabby, just how it should be;. No fakery, pretension or sign of big-brewery money-grabbing. Always busy. Has that indefinable something which makes a pub special. Live music now and then, which really draws the crowds. Excellent.

The Crown is a quaint looking pub, rather like a farmhouse, in a picturesque conservation area. Small car park at the front, small patio/smoking area at the side. The beer garden is over the road, which is not as strange as it sounds as the road in question (Vale Road) is narrow, cobbled, little used and appears to be part of the pub grounds anyway.
Inside there are two rooms, one a small and cosy lounge and the other a larger dining room. The cosy lounge has typical olde English pub decor, copper top tables, beams and brasses, while the dining room, modernised in recent years, has a bare stone floor with solid wooden tables and benches. More beams and brasses.
The pub gets busy at weekends, and the beer garden is very popular in good weather. On weekday evenings the small room is frequented by a handful of regulars; mostly besuited men who look like solicitors or accountants who have stopped of for a pint on their way home, while the larger room is usually empty. Sometimes in the larger room you will find groups of ladies chatting and sharing a bottle of wine.
There are not many Robinsons pubs in the north part of Stockport. (I wish there were more). The beer in the Crown is typical Robbies - hit and miss. Sometimes excellent, sometimes avaerage, but I've never had a bad pint in there. I wish they'd bring their prices down though!
No TV, pool table or loud music. Good. Overall a decent pub.

The Red Lion is a good pub; one of the nicest in Colne centre.
Good atmosphere, good decor, cosy small rooms and a friendly open area around the bar. Fabulous fireplaces. The clientele are a mature crowd, the pub has always been fairly busy when I've been in there, and it doesn't suffer from loud music or a TV showing football.
It's a Samuel Smiths pub so all beers (and everything else on sale probably) are Samuels Smith's own brand. This is no problem however, as all the beers I've tried in the Red Lion and other Sam Smith's houses have been very good. I can recommend the draught bitter, mild and stout, and as for the lager, a friend says that is good too.
Cheap as well!

The George and Dragon, Stockport
Architecturally splendid inside and out, large, multi-roomed, busy, buzzing, good beer, good landlord, friendly regulars. A community hub.
That was then. The George and Dragon has gone completely down hill and down market. Still busy and buzzing on occasions, but only then with shabby, unshaven, sportswear-attired riff raff trying to to out-swear each other. The entrance doorway on School Lane is a particular grot spot and smoking hang out for this lot. Awful.
However, the pint of Bombardier I had in there recently was excellent, and reasonably priced. Bombardier was the only hand-pumped ale available, although about 4 others were on display (i.e. pump clips facing forward) but unavailable. Sloppy bar management!

I don't go in here often nowadays, although it used to be a good, friendly place. That has changed in the last few years; the price of a pint is high and the quality of the beer only average. Bar staff unfriendly. With nearly all of the nearby pubs closed down a pint in the Hinds Head is now a grudge purchase.
On the plus side the interior is still clean, sparkling and lovely, the pub is usually busy and free of football types, and it seems a popular place to eat, with the eating area well demarcated from the pub area.
Could be much better.

Grey Horse, Reddish
This place has had its ups and downs but has now become quite a decent pub.
When it first opened after the Holts refurbishment I didn't like it; there were large screen TVs in every room showing football at a very high volume, and there was nowhere in the pub you could go to escape from it.
This has now been toned down and in the week the pub is a pleasant place for a quiet drink. The draught Holts is always on good form and value for money, and on top of this there are often special offers on various beers. Nice barmaids too.
At weekends there is usually some live entertainment, last night this was in the shape of a George Michael impersonator - not my cup of tea but very popular. On these nights the pub is usually packed. I'll stick to weekdays!
