The Nell Gwynne, Covent Garden

"You say you won't be back. That's fine. It's a shame you couldn't just leave quietly with some dignity" - Wow. What great feedback that is. You talk about dignity yet dont seem to have much when someone posts a negative review of your place on here?

People dont "hide behind usernames" - They simply post their reviews of pubs up on here. I actually really enjoyed my time in your pub but just because someone else did not why attack like that? You made your point about the riots and could have quite easily left it at that but instead had to carry on.

The only person acting without dignity on here is you. If you want to respond to criticism then do it in a professional manner - whats the point in doing it the way you have?

The Worlds End, Camden

Tel - A good question mate. Camden is an absolute rip off at the moment and I think will continue to be so for a while. When i'm down in waterloo I pay around 3.50 for a Guinness, its near 4 - 4.10 in Camden. Its stupid.

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Right, so because she drank in this pub - that means then automatically that this review page for the quality of a PUB should now become a tribute page? Or how about it should stick to being a place to review a pub. Her death has got nothing to do with it.

The Hawley Arms, Camden

As sad as it is maidavale - This is about reviewing the pub. Not to post RIP's to someone that used to get smashed in it.

The North Star, Finchley Road

Popped in yesterday with a mate. We had been in the Swiss Cottage up the road and were waiting for our Train home from Finchley Rd tube when we thought we would pop in. I was driving later and had already had a pint so opted just for a small coke (2). There were 4 handpumps on at the time. The music was slightly strange in some happy hardcore like dance music playing out quite loud but not to the point that I could not hear my friend speak. There were 4 screens showing the Tour De France and a few people playing darts. I cannot really fault the place. It does exactly as it says on the tin. The staff were fine too. Could probably do with a bit of a refurb though and thats why it gets 5/10

Ye Olde Swiss Cottage, Swiss Cottage

I've been going to this place on and off for about 6 years now. I've never had a problem with it at all. I popped in yesterday with a mate of mine for a catch up pint and got served by the landlord. I think his name is Steve? Anyway, me and my mate are both from Sheffield and so is this chap. We soon got talking about the usual stuff football etc to which he then took us into a room in the pub I never even knew about - theres a massive snooker hall with about 16 tables and a bar area! Unfortunately though he said due to budget cuts he cant open it as much as he would like. 2 pints of Lager for under a fiver, and very nice they were too. Ok so the place is a little tired looking. Theres a lot of older blokes sipping their lagers but at the same time a young group of student girls came in, sat down ordered drinks and food and were having a great time. Yes the location is a pain as its right in the middle of a roundabout but if your after a place which sells good, cheap lagers where you can go with your mates and have a goot chat and a catch up then you cant go wrong with this place. It's a no nonsense type place and you wont find any of your "Im from Camden yah" type idiots here. Give it a go, you might be pleasantly surprised :)

Yates's, High Wycombe

Interesting review from Zoe30. Only reviewed one place and raves about how amazing it is to book your party with Yates'. A little PR stunt me thinks.....

17 Jul 2011 18:56

Falcon, High Wycombe

I have lived in Wycombe for 8 years. This place needed a spruce up when I first came here back then. Now it desperately needs one. It stinks. Is rammed full of students and alcoholics on a weekend and has a very tense atmosphere. The carpets are awful, the tables scratched, stained etc and even the toilets (Which wetherspoons supposedly pride themselves on?) are absolutely hideous. I think if the company just invested a little bit of cash in this place it would gain more custom and in turn make more money. As it is, the same people will continue to drink in there and as such I wont be.

17 Jul 2011 18:53

The Glasshouse, High Wycombe

I've heard this place is going to be closed and re-open as a Gay bar. Either way the management need to do something with it as when we were in there the other week at 9pm on a Saturday night myself and the other half were the only 2 people in there!! It's always empty with no atmosphere.

17 Jul 2011 18:50

The Antelope, High Wycombe

I've re-visited this place a few times over the past year. Mostly around 8pm on a weekend when the place is still quite quiet and we can get a seat in the beer garden. The problem with this place as I said a few years ago - it needs a big refurb. When you walk in you are met with the overbearing smell of stale lager, urine and a general musky smell. The place is looking very sorry for itself and quite drab and even the beer garden could do with a spruce up now. The 'locals' are usually to be found at the bar stinking the place out even more, staring at you and sizing you up should you dare stand in their spot at the bar. It fills up with chavs and coke heads after around 10pm and the dancefloor that used to play some really good alternative/indie music now pumps out generic dance and R&B. In summary, go for a pint in the beer garden, then leave. There are better places around.

Lock 17, Camden

Was in here last night. Very friendly door staff. But be warned it gets PACKED! Over-priced for what it is and they are continually running our of anything on tap. It's not a bad place, its just the fact it gets so busy that lets it down. That and the fact they only had 3 staff serving for a bar where over 15 people were waiting to get served. Not bad for a quick stop off but otherwise go somewhere else.

17 Jul 2011 18:41

The Worlds End, Camden

Was in here last night with a couple of friends. I've been before and not been overly impressed. It's very expensive for what it is - (But saying that isnt most of London now a days?) The atmosphere was quite nice actually, we stayed and had 3 pints. I was on Guinness which I have to say was the BEST pint of the black stuff I have had for a long time in London. It actually took an age to settle and form, was quite thick and tasted like a dream! I give it 6/10. The price structure does let it down though....

17 Jul 2011 18:39

The Hawley Arms, Camden

Wow well what can I say about the door 'staff' at this place. You may have seen I have reviewed this place a few months ago. Well me and my mate went to meet another friend who was already inside the pub last night. Unusually for this place it was nearly empty when we went at 9pm which I thought was strange. As we went to go in the little sikh door man said "not tonight, mixed groups only". I asked him his reasoning behind this as there was only myself and my friend who were well dressed and definately not the beer boy type. "Did you not hear me? mixed groups only". I said I did hear him but could he not see the pub was nearly empty? I said to my friend who tried to reason with him that we would go somewhere else to which the little man on the door said "yeh, plenty of places to go so why dont you go". My friend finished his pint inside and off we went around the corner to a much better place with friendly door staff. Before we left the little man on the door said to his doorman friend how I was "running my mouth off". You can imagine the sort of idiots that are stood on the doors here. Avoid it. There are a lot better places to go.

The Black Prince, Woodstock

Having gone back again as promised I have to say I had a fantastic time! I was there for hours with friends. The staff were friendly and welcoming as were all of the regulars. The Guinness was miles better and all in all I honestly could not fault the place, just wish it stayed open later! 9/10!

7 Apr 2011 22:40

The Crooked Surgeon, Leicester Square

Is now listed on the Slug & Lettuce website as 'coming soon' so maybe time for ANOTHER refurb of this dump....

6 Apr 2011 00:22

The Black Prince, Woodstock

I came in here with a friend for the first time a few days ago. He lives in the area and I was visiting. I had a pint of Guinness (3.35) which I have to say was not very good. It was clearly going off/nearing the end of the barrel and had that tinny/metallic smell you get. That said it was daytime and as such i'm sure when the lines are pulled through more during the evening it would improve. Going back again soon so will update. Regarding the interior, I quite liked it - a mixture of old and new with candles on tables.

O'Neills, Soho

8 to enter a normal pub on a Saturday night? You have got to be kidding! The queue stretched around the building and was full of annoying dolly birds and chav boys.

We saved our money and went elsewhere as they really are taking the mick! I advise you do too!

31 Jan 2011 00:09

Zebrano, Soho

Me and the missus have been to this place on a number of occasions midweek when we have been out and needed somewhere to go which has a late licence.

The staff have always been friendly but it was a little different this time round.

Firstly we had to battle to keep our place in the queue outside as people tried pushing in to which the door staff did NOTHING about! Then when we finally get to the front my girlfriend who was smoking a cig was told "Put that out now, put it out now because you dont smoke in our queues". This was repeated another 2 times getting more angry each time despite the fact my better half was already complying with her request!

We then get told it's "Ten pound for boys, five pounds for ladies". Great. Not.

Got inside and it was very busy but some good music was being played and we bought a bottle of wine to enjoy and managed to find a seat upstairs.

Stayed for a few hours which I didnt mind but just the high admission charge and surly staff put me off this place and I dont know if I will go again in the future....

31 Jan 2011 00:04

The Nell Gwynne, Covent Garden

Went here last night. VERY busy and you could hardly move and the slight stencde of 'toilets' hits you as you walk in which isnt great.

The Guinness was good and reasonably priced at 3.50. the staff were friendly and I would go back, just not at peak time on a Saturday night...

30 Jan 2011 23:59

The Lamb and Flag, Covent Garden

Not bad, but I really dont think anything special? It came across as being in need of a good clean and the smell of the sewers downstairs near the bar nearly made me throw up! They really really need to get that sorted, its disgusting!

The beer wasnt bad. It was very busy and although I didnt mind my time there I dont know if I would return.....

30 Jan 2011 23:57

The Kings Arms, Waterloo

Came in last night to find it busy and standing but not too crowded. Very friendly bar staff who greeted us with smiles and served us promptly.

The Guinness I had (3.50) was one of the best I have had in England! Absolutely perfect and well priced. The other hald just had a lager at 3.35, once again well priced.

We moved next door to the large roaring fire and we simply sat there for hours unwinding, relaxing and soaking up the ambience of what is by far one of the best pubs in London.

Visit this place if you havent, the street is like a film set, the beer is amazing and the staff friendly - perfect :)

30 Jan 2011 23:55

Golden Lion, Soho

I went in here last night around 11.30pm to be met by one of the most crowded pubs I have been in for a long time in London.

You literally could not move but as it was getting late and we fancied a pint we stayed, bad idea.

Spotting the stairs we moved upstairs to try and get some space from the havoc downstairs to be met by the rudest arrogant bar manager I have ever encountered. He told us to go downstairs rather abruptly to which i said to him there was nowhere to stand so how can we go down there when there was no room at all? A snapped response of "Well if you move I can see how much room there is cant I". He went down two stairs, turning more people away from upstairs in the process. Analysed the completely overflowing pub, shut a gate leading upstairs that looks like a cattle gate and headed off back up there, not giving a damm that fights were nearly breaking out because of the lack of space!

Will not be going again.

30 Jan 2011 23:52

The Hawley Arms, Camden

VERY busy on the weekend - not a bad pub but what is it with everywhere in Camden now charging over 3.70 for a Guinness? Sort it out!

24 Jan 2011 00:45

The Camden Eye, Camden

Went in here with a mate last night. One bloke doing Coke in the toilet cubicle, another pissing on the floor beside me.

At the bar a pint of Guinness was........................3.85!!!!!!! Never again/

24 Jan 2011 00:43

Yates's, High Wycombe

Awful awful awful! Full of scuzzers who are always up for a fight and jumped up idiots high on whatever drugs they have just taken in the toilets. Horrible atmosphere it feels like its just waiting to kick off all the time, which in the end, it always does! AVOID!!!!!!

19 Jan 2011 21:57

The Roundhouse, Covent Garden

I dont mind it at all, not a bad pub, busy so you can never get a seat but great to stand outside and people watch :)

18 Jan 2011 01:01

The Punch And Judy, Covent Garden

Overpriced tourist trap which has rude door staff and a dank smell everywhere you go! Avoid it! Theres loads of other places to go!!!

18 Jan 2011 01:00

Bunker, Covent Garden

Been closed for a number of years now - gutted as I really like the place! And the sausages!!!

18 Jan 2011 00:57

The Chandos, Trafalgar Square

It's your average Sam Smiths pub, cheap, cheerful and thats about it.

Not bad for a swift pint but would definately not be spending anymore time here...

18 Jan 2011 00:56

The Clarence, Whitehall

Since the refurb a year or two now?....The pub has got very expensive and has lost all its character.

It was rather dark but airy and comfy now its light and tasteless. A real shame but I no longer visit here.

18 Jan 2011 00:54

The Ship and Shovell, Charing Cross

Good little pub tucked away down a side passage nr to Charing Cross Station. Evening time is the best time to go, lovely atmosphere with good friendly staff :)

18 Jan 2011 00:44

St Stephens Tavern, Westminster

Absolutely full of tourists BUT what a brilliant old fashioned interior for a pub! Very small and cramped but still enjoyable, esppecially in summer when you can stand outside admiring Big Ben!

The major downside though, the prices! Everytime I come in here they must rocket up about 30p per pint! On average around 80-90p per pint more expensive than other pubs in the area....

18 Jan 2011 00:35

Smiths Of Smithfield, Smithfield

I dont mind Smiths and do use this place on a regular basis but I do have to agree with the comments about the staff and smell!

The ground floor smells of stale beer/spilt alcoholic drinks which have not been cleaned up properley and the bar staff are some of the rudest I have ever come across, even in London!

It's a real hit and miss place - sometimes its a great atmopshere, other times its shocking!

See for yourself or go somewhere else.....entirely up to you :)

18 Jan 2011 00:31

Gordon's Wine Bar, Charing Cross

I first went to this place around 2 years ago after the missus reccomended it following on from her visiting her for a few drinks after work. I absolutely love it! One of the best if not the best atmosphere of any licensed premises in London. Full of ordinary people and couples enjoying one of the many beautiful bottles of wine they have on offer. Candlelit, it feels like you are transported from the hustle and bustle of London to heaven!!! Ok, maybe not heaven but you get my drift! Cheapest wine around 15 for a white rising very far upwards! Never had any problems with the staff, although it can take an age to get served!

18 Jan 2011 00:28

The Imperial, Soho

Never had a bad pint in here, not too bad at all for a quick stop off and prices not too bad for the area.

18 Jan 2011 00:23

The Porterhouse, Covent Garden

Actually really enjoy going to this place when out and about in Central. Definately not a real ale pub but does a good selection of spirits and a nice strawberry beer. I always found the patrons a really good crowd, always had a good time here :)

18 Jan 2011 00:19

O'Neills, High Wycombe

Still a great place to go for a night out with good live entertainment but it now gets so busy that you can barely move in there between 9 and 11pm making it quite a tense atmosphere as people jostle for the bar or battle through crouds to get to the toilets which are situated at one end of the pub.

After 11 it empties out and is more bearable again. Definately give it a try, just maybe go a little later...

18 Jan 2011 00:14

The Bell, High Wycombe

Since my last review nearly 4 years I dont go into the Bell all that often. A change of landlord means a colder welcome and not the friendly relaxing place it once was. Further price increases price this place out of a lot of peoples budgets and this can be seen in the lack of people in there on a friday and saturday night.

Big shame, will try again soon though and update..

18 Jan 2011 00:09

The Hobgoblin, High Wycombe

Me and the other half class this as our local - Before its temporary closure it was an absolute gem, brilliant staff, atmosphere and music but since its reopened and been 'refurbished' we think it's lost a lot of its charm. For starters it is far too bright and 'cold' at the top end of the pub where the main entrance is. It used to be a dark, cosy little area where you could sit for hours on end and talk - now theres not really anywhere you can truly relax and I think its a great shame.

The bar area seems bare, there are no longer any photos or added decor around and this really has taken away a lot of the pubs character.

The bar staff though I still think are great although a few of the old guard have moved on. A big loss is the great live DJ sets they used to have in the beer garden, now replaced with simple music pumped from the jukebox.

Beer is ok, currently 3.20 ish for a Guinness.

I just wish they would tone down the lighting at the top end of the pub and get a little more decor up to make it a little bit more welcoming again!

18 Jan 2011 00:08

The Bootlegger, High Wycombe

Now this is the sort of pub Wycombe has been waiting for. A nice, comfy pub with brilliant beers and a good atmosphere. The only thing that lets this place down is the downright rude and arrogant staff who leave you standing at the bar for an eternity while they stand there either chatting or washing glasses, or alternatively ignoring you completely and serving everyone but you!

It's a real shame when I first went in there the staff were 10/10. Ok, it's a little pricey but I dont mind that - just sort out the arrogant bar staff and it will be by far one of the best PH's in Wycombe!

18 Jan 2011 00:00

Waxy's Little Sister, Piccadilly Circus

When I first started going out in London a good few years ago I really like this place. Now if you plan to go here and you're not with a member of the opposite sex then dont even try and bother after 6pm. It's doors are staffed by rude, aggresive bouncers who take great delight in ruining your evening and trying to make you look stupid. Personally I think there are far more pubs in the area with a better reputation than this, I personally would avoidl

17 Jan 2011 23:58

The Antelope, High Wycombe

In need of a major refurb. Gone downhill big time since the old landlord left. Not my watering hole anymore.

21 Apr 2007 01:42

bar s1, Sheffield

Hmmmm my previous post slagging this place off seems to have been deleted. Either way it basically said that this place is awful. Awful awful awful. Avoid it like the plague. Full of either 16 year old chavs or 50 year old women who want a quick one in the toilets. Urgh.

21 Apr 2007 01:32

Muse, Sheffield

Great bar with great staff and well kept stout, lager and ale. Slightly pricey compared to some other places but great relaxed atmosphere. Great place to start the night or stop off at en route to a club etc. 9/10 for me.

13 Apr 2007 16:20

O'Neills, High Wycombe

1nd best pub/bar in Wycombe. Recently won an award for serving the best O'Neils pub grub in the country...and I have to agree it is pretty good! Good beer and great staff make this place a good venue for a night out.

13 Apr 2007 16:17

The Beaconsfield Arms, High Wycombe

Supposed to be my local pub but have not touched the place in 2 years due to the amount of scumbags that frequent the place. It has now just closed down for a refurb with new owners (April 07) so we shall see if they can bring the place back upto scratch instead of it being used as a pool hall and asylum refuge.

13 Apr 2007 16:15

The Chequers, Marlow

Avoid. Expensive, arrogant staff and shite.

11 Mar 2007 02:27

Hogshead, High Wycombe

since my last post back in September the place has gone down hill big time. Extremely incompetent bar staff who are also extremely arrogant. Nasty place. Think it will probably close down soon and be rebranded a slug an dlettuce seeing as all the other hogsheads in the area are!(Marlow & Aylesbury)

11 Mar 2007 02:25

Butlers, High Wycombe

When it's busy it's crap......full of scum. when it's not too busy it's ok for a sit down beer before heading somewhere else like the glasshouse.

11 Mar 2007 02:21

The Bell, High Wycombe

Great pub. Friendly atmosphere, similar to the glass house in the fact it has a very good crowd and not scumbags. Expensive but definately a good place to start the night..

11 Mar 2007 02:16

The Glasshouse, High Wycombe

By far the best bar in Wycombe. Never seen any trouble in here at all. Great crowd (No tanked up beer boys or fishy smelling mingers in here) Great staff and good quality beer....slightly overpriced though but I suppose in this town you dont mind paying that little extra for a place to drink which isnt full of scum!

11 Mar 2007 02:15

The Hogshead, Aylesbury

Has now closed down to become what looks like ANOTHER Slug & Lettuce. First of all the one in Marlow and now this place, will the one in Wycombe follow???

11 Mar 2007 02:06

Toad at The Emporium, High Wycombe

Good place, good staff but soemtimes full of Wycombes chavs & chavette's. All in all a good night.

7/10

7 Sep 2005 20:40

Yates's, High Wycombe

Best bar in Wycombe by far!

Tuesday nights Bar 1.50, top stuff. Dj is shite though.

Doorstaff ok, bar staff are friendly. Good people in there and you can usually relax and just have a good time!

8/10

7 Sep 2005 20:37

Hogshead, High Wycombe

Have to disagree. Lively place, good to go for a few drinks if you're on a night out.

Pool tables, Tv's, jukies, and decent priced beer. Never had a bad experience there yet.

7.5/10

7 Sep 2005 20:35

The Glasshouse, High Wycombe

Good to see some more 'upmarket' places opening in Wycombe. Actually no sod that, its good to see any new places opening up in wycombe.

Bar is small though and it should have some sort of plasma tv's on the walls to give it some atmosphere in there!
