The Red Lion, Godalming

Slugsie. I have no doubt that you are a thoughtful dog owner who is in control of your dog(s) at all times and makes sure that other customers are not bothered. However, Rosie - the pub dog - is not controlled; a very energetic Great Dane, she frequently is allowed to run riot in the pub which she regards as her home. Her toys and bodily fluids are seen daily and she has no place in a pub where food is served. That is why most of us Godalmians go elsewhere - with/without our dogs.

The Duke Of Wellington, East Horsley

Saw Seb Coe in here; he lives locally. He politely asked the barmaid if he could have a tab.

In a broad Irish accent, the barmaid replied 'I suppose so. But you won't do a runner, will you ? Cos we'd never catch you !'

Tend to agree with reasonedview; this used to be a very mediocre place. I shall check it out and report. No rating.

The Red Cross Inn, Reigate

New management - lets hope for big improvement.

The Market Hotel, Reigate

It looks very bad for this central, large and well laid out pub. The management is poor and the future is bleak. When it does get busy, say after work on a Friday night, they have one person serving ! The upstairs bar is now just a rarely utilised function room (over 3,000 sq. ft. of it, in the town's prime location). The pub's BITE rating is one of the lowest in the area. Sad.

The Red Lion, Godalming

Witness the demise of a fine, well located pub. I was in the lounge area recently and a child was throwing a ball to the massive dog, who was jumping all over the place - and very nearly knocked my very mediocre beer. Would not like to eat in this pub; its more like a dog's home.

Crown Inn, Westcott

I hope we are not going to have a Christmas campaign from raphaella - under what ever name(s) she wants to use. Not long ago, she was quick to put down Westcott's other pub, the Prince of Wales; this has now reopened - refurbished and with new local ownership and is much better than the Crown, under all headings. Still, no doubt, raph will ramble on!

The Market Hotel, Reigate

That exchange of posts this morning (between mark. and mand.) was relevant, bearing in mind the almost 100% negativity of posts about The Market on this site. We can all now see why this is !

If the inarticulate mark. (with the two degrees) forms part of The Market's management, is it no wonder why post after post have been complaining about this awful pub. Mark. seems simply unable to have a reasoned discussion, a well being unable to run a pub.

The Red Lion, Godalming

Amazing - bizarre dog & beers. Not tidied up from previous evening/poor service/shabby feel.

These views concur largely with mine; this is a very mediocre pub (with some hygiene problems) run by an indifferent management - who have set the standards far too low for a pub with potential.

Much better pubs nearby.

The Junction, Redhill

Since re -opening about three weeks ago, this pubs seems to have had unusual hours. Does anyone know why ? For example, does it not open on Sunday nights ? (I could see why it might not - a very quiet time in central Redhill).

18 Nov 2008 20:54

The Blue Anchor, Reigate

The fat blond barmaid is something else - (something else that is not a barmaid). She likes her Pimms - but doesn't like paying for it.

Strugling pub that fails on most counts - but mainly on its staff who have no interest whatsoever.

13 Nov 2008 12:16

The Bulls Head, Reigate

Recently, the Bulls Head has started doing 2 meals for a 5 - and good quality. As a result, the nearest pubs (Blue Anchor and Red Cross) have become even quieter - if thats possible !

5 Nov 2008 14:17

The Junction, Redhill

Excellent refurbishment. If they get the menu right - this best located pub (bang in the middle of Redhill) will do well, catering for those of us who visit the nearby Belfry Shopping Centre as well as the locals and 1000's of office workers .

23 Oct 2008 11:31

The Tower, Redhill

The Dog and Duck is open - only closed for a day. It remains on the market.

12 Oct 2008 15:52

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Yes paladian. The toilet organisation is a farce. As are most things with this place.

Unfortunately, I hear Wetherspoons will go elsewhere.

The Market may therefore survive despite its awful management and service (if it keeps its costs as low as they obviously are!). Basically now a Sky pub, it recently took them nearly three weeks to get even that fixed.

8 Oct 2008 15:27

The Junction, Redhill

This place was closed today.

6 Oct 2008 19:45

The Tower, Redhill

Passed by (would not dream of going in) this pub last Thursday - it was closed. Last time I was there, a fight started at about 3pm. The Mick McGinty mentioned by a previous poster met his end in this pub - then called Crocks.

6 Oct 2008 09:37

The Purley Arms, South Croydon

Over the past 2.5 years, slerpy has had over 150 reviews on BITE. A lot of these were accurate and/or concise.

Unfortunately, he has know shown his true, insensitive and pathetic nature - which the two previous reviewers have very clearly pointed out.

2 Oct 2008 15:10

Air Balloon, Horley

I was recently given an estimate of an hour for service. If TECKNIK gives this level of service the 'thumbs up' - he must have a lot of time on his hands. The solution is simple.............more staff.

29 Sep 2008 16:11

The Abinger Arms, Abinger Hammer

The last poster describes this awful pub accurately; perhaps with the most potential, this pub is easily the worst on the A25 between Dorking and Guildford. It has an uncaring management - with no interest whatsoever, except dogs and cats.

29 Sep 2008 12:51

O'Neills, Redhill

Why review a pub that does not exist ? O'Neils are long gone !

29 Sep 2008 12:40

The King William IV, Mickleham

The Running Horses' parking is nearly as bad as this pub's - and the only local resident who could visit both in 5 mins. is Seb Coe on a good day !

I don't know why WIV gets extreme reviews, good and bad. Its always been mediocre in my opinion, save for the fine location. Much better pubs locally e.g. The Running Horses.

26 Sep 2008 14:29

The Good Mixer, Camden

Trusted Places gave two five star ratings to The Good Mixer ! Admittedly, five ratings are a common on that site - but for this filthy excuse for a pub - its totally off the wall. BITE posters tell it the way it is.

3 Sep 2008 13:10

The Market Hotel, Reigate

Wetherspoons are looking at the vacant Reigate Tailors premises on the High Street; their arrival would probably put the Market Hotel out of business - what little it has. It would also shake up/kill a lot of other 'barely ticking over' outlets.

2 Sep 2008 15:44

The Dukes Head, Beare Green

Was in too...once. This pub will take years to recover; it has a long history of failure. Is it still Big Trevor's office ?

31 Aug 2008 23:25

Crown Inn, Westcott

Yes Raphaella. Have the decency/courage to make your allegations on the POW site. Your 'back door' comments (which are,in fact, untrue) suggest both cowardice and deviousness. Does Paul know what you are saying in the misguided support of his pub ?

27 Aug 2008 10:52

The Dukes Head, Beare Green

Who stole the badges ?

3 Aug 2008 10:00

Crown Inn, Westcott

One has to wonder why a number of accurate posts - by regulars - have been deleted about The Crown. Does Raphaella have anything to do with it ? Yes

1 Aug 2008 16:57

The Dukes Head, Beare Green

Haven't been in the DH for a couple of months - but I pass it regularly. Seemed open to me at the weekend; cars in the car park etc.

15 Jul 2008 14:18

Air Balloon, Horley

Like paladian, we also left hungry. Published prices are low but if I was selling something for 10, and I did'nt have any or couldn't produce - I'd probably start selling it for 5 !

14 Jul 2008 14:06

The King William IV, Mickleham

Another new poster (Naz) is 'in the ok sector' - but immediately gives advice on 'ethos' of this site ! Having lunch at the Willy today; will factually update soon. No rating left.

22 Jun 2008 10:35

The Dragon, Redhill

The Dragon has been taken over by a pleasant Chinese family (from Liverpool) and the pub now has a good atmosphere with excellent Chinese food. Very popular with office workers at lunchtime as it has the best pub grub in Redhill. All previous posts are out of date.

17 Jun 2008 08:39

The Borough Arms, Blackburn

Thanks Martyn. This change was first pointed out to BITE over 7 months ago; I wonder how quickly they will react this time ? Probably when the site becomes a car park !

28 May 2008 11:03

The King William IV, Mickleham

The last two posts - and that of Hoppity - were the first and only of newly joined posters to this board. Unusual , as most posts are made by random pub visitors - who comment on the good and the bad of various outlets; these three were very positive and one suspects contrivance, bearing in mind the ongoing/recent thread.

27 May 2008 12:08

The King William IV, Mickleham

Is Hoppity the landlord/landlady ? Location is good - that's all ! Service and food were very accurately described in previous posts. For Hoppity to mention 'freshly cooked food' and 'well kept beer' in the context of the current Willy is like saying the Mole is like the Thames !

23 May 2008 10:51

The Dolphin, Betchworth

Since George and Rose left (about 3 years ago ?), a series of bad managers and staff have driven this Youngs gem into pale mediocrity. Regulars have left in droves to be replaced by fewer but more unpleasant chaps. Food prices and quality are a problem (compared to other East Surrey pubs). All could be solved by a new, strong and enthusiastic management team - but is the newly merged and much larger brewery interested in this 'quaint' type of rural pub anymore ? It would seem not.

22 May 2008 15:11

The Ram, Kingston Upon Thames

taijix is absolutely spot on. I use this pub every day and am a 'happy regular' of The Ram - probably the best pub in Kingston. Good food and atmosphere.

16 May 2008 13:07

The Dukes Head, Beare Green

Agree with simwilliams. The carvery is the best in the Dorking area and all the usual pub entertainments are organised by Bob and Alan, the owners. Frequented by some well known horsey people.

16 May 2008 12:48

The Spotted Dog, Dorking

I was wrong (last post); its well open. Had a drink there today - they're only fixing the roof. Nice beer garden, in the lee of Boxhill.

9 May 2008 17:38

The Spotted Dog, Dorking

Passed by last week. The pub was closed. No sign/note saying why ?!

9 May 2008 09:56

The Angel, Reigate

This is where the Guinness is creamy, the G & T's are crisp and the Buck's Fizz chilled - with the coversation bordering on the intellectual. Perhaps, Surrey's finest ? Chopin was wafting through the atmosphere on my last visit and the girls from Canons were fragrant. A very historic venue, the Angel has become the Gatwick area social nucleus with frequent flying visits by film celebrities such as Lassie and The Mummy. In the fine beer garden, I recently spied a (very famous) orangoutang - TOPLESS !

8 May 2008 10:42

The Good Mixer, Camden

Its called the Good Mixer because when the bulding was completed, the builders discovered that their cement mixer had been left in the cellar. They could'nt get it out - so they buried it in the cellar where part of it still sticks out. When they told their boss, he said 'that was a good mixer' and the name was given to the pub; this is true. However, the fact that the pub is next door to one of the biggest mens hostels in Britain tells its own story.

6 May 2008 14:59

The Royal Albion, Hastings

Put simply, an awful pub. Dirty, bored staff and worn out decor/fittings. Pity - its on the seafront and, also, backs on the fast improving and historic George Street; thus, great potential. Again, it has new management; but unless they are outstanding, I fear for the future of this pub which has lost its soul.
