Went to this pub yesterday for the first time in about 12 years. Very pleased to report it hasn't changed a bit.
Pity about the boring Greene King-only beers, but otherwise excellent.

Tried this last night after all its publicity.
My wife ordered a glass of champagne to be told by the young lad behind the bar that they didn't do champagne by the glass, only Prosecco. This was despite there being a board outside advertising half price champagne on a Thursday, and it being (we found later) on the wine list as being available by the glass.
Ordered two steak burgers (the prices of the steaks themselves being ludicrous!), one with cheese and one without. They both turned up with cheese, so I sent mine back, to be told that they couldn't do one without cheese as they were pre-made up earlier that afternoon with the cheese on them.
This was rather alarming given all the blurb on the menus about home cooked food etc. as if they couldn't do a burger without cheese, it suggests that they may well have been partially cooked already. Even if that was not so I am not too impressed by food being partially pre-prepared several hours earlier in that way.
Someone on the next table to us sent their food back (I don't know why) and another table waited so long that they got up to find out where their food was.
Overall, third rate food and fifth rate service. Might do better if it was not staffed solely by children.
A waste of petrol - we won't be back !!

Closed down, in liquidation.
How sad that a nice pub was ruined in this way.
Let's hope someone takes it on soon - they could start by putting the bar back!

Went in on Saturday and the only real ales on were Greene King related, i.e. IPA and Hardy & Hansons.
Is this not a real free house any more? What happened to the big range of real ales?

Oh dear, another pub ruined by being turned into an eatery. The bar has been ripped out and relegated to a small servery in the corner. Why do people do this?
A lesson on how to remove any atmosphere from a pub.

Went back recently 20 years after it was a regular University watering hole.
Still as brilliant as it was then, except even better for all the little rooms not being filled with smoke!!
One of my top 10 pubs in UK.

Went for the lunch the other day. What has happened?
Freezing cold back bar, bare walls, very limited menu, blank specials board, very average food.

Despite Greene King takeover, still a pub worth making a special effort to visit. Even better now each little corner is not going to be filled with smoke.

What an amazing place! No reason to go anywhere else in town as far as I could see.
