Best real ale pub in Hitchin by a distance I would say. Yet to be disappointed. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere.

Usually got a decent range of ale on. Good sized heated beer garden. Later opening Friday and Saturday. Good pub.

Don't lean on any surfaces in here as you'll get glued by the stale alcopops the kids spill everywhere.

Must be one of the few places still doing Whitbread Poacher bitter on keg - not a reason to visit!

Only been in a couple of times, the highlight being inadvertently there on a fancy dress night where the top 3 got prizes, which was handy as only two people were in fancy dress. Nothing wrong with the ale though.

Standard stuff from Weatherspoons, terrific value for money, Marstons at 1.39 a pint.

Decent range of beers available but service is very slow. Lively on a weekend but don't see that as a bad thing.

The Black Squirrel, Letchworth
This pub is now closed. A Mexican restaurant is in it's place.

Best pub in Letchworth by a distance, very welcoming good mix of people, be a crying shame when it's torn down as part of the "improvements".

Badly in need of a refurb. Gone non smoking. Prices are still very good though.

Bit cliquey this place, prices well out of step with other pubs in the Old Town.

Non smoking pub, with a courtyard for the smokers. Toilets are a bit grotty. Not cheap. The McMullen AK is still on and was in reasonble condition.

The Radcliffe Arms, Hitchin
Keen as I am to support new life being injected to pubs, I was very disappointed to be turned away by a door "person" on the second day of opening. We were informed that the Radcliffe was purely a restaurant and we were not welcome to go in for a pint. As we were neither drunk nor rowdy (we are three 30 something professionals) I found that a bit puzzling. As things stand I cannot think of a single reason to go back there nor relate my experience to anyone who asks.
