had to return a pint, which was fine, barrels end, but the suggested replacement was as bad. midweek i doubt they have the volume to keep the beer well, shame, as i want to like it here, but of 5 visits, 2 had beer issues... a poor percentage

I just don't understand fullers, they have great positions, good looking, well maintained pubs, beer that's really quite good, yet their staff, whilst efficient , lack the ability to make you feel welcome, it's not just here. The problems rife, try Petersfield, or Winchester, where their pubs are the same story.
If they got this right, I'd go above a 5*

only issue is the fullers prices? concidering they brew the beer, how come the wetherspoon in town sell london pride & for a good 1 a pint less?
good live music, ok food, i did order spaghetti meatballs, i got penne, little things!

filthy dirty, populated by the middle aged single alcoholic proffessionals, who still insist that getting lashed every weekend is better than growing up, no ale apparent, over priced fizzy pee in a fosters glass, i left it on the side & left. simply awful. ( perhaps im getting old),

overpriced decent ale, 9 for 2 pints & bags of snacks. dirty ceiling, sticky tables, i dont think its anywhere near as good as comments below made me expect.

about time we stopped being ripped off in this town, and the nicest wetherspoons ive seen, good luck to you.

Great in every way exept the landlord, who is frankly a sour faced misery. Avoid if he is on.

The Slug and Lettuce, Winchester
Why do I keep trying this place? I think I want it to be good. But it's never made it. Sunday dinner tried today, cold, tiny & had scones for yorkshires. Pint of flower pots was 2 days past it's best. Poor in every way. A shame for such a great spot.

lets get 2 things straight.
1. its a spoons, and with that you dont get the music, but you do get the value for money thats missing in most of winchester, i mean, when most places are charging 3+ for a beer in the city centre...1.79 for a large selection of ale!! (up to 12 last night!)
2. its worn, it is 10 years old!
i love this place, its non-assuming, and in all honesty, i dont care the loo's are from the 1970's, find a spot, with good company and soon the surroundings don't matter, if you cant see the appeal, its a pub that caters for the masses, i agree, but, its friendly, the 10 am scumbags have reduced, and the staff actually give a damn, which is refreshing.

why the conspiracy against spoons ? how elitist can it be to be after a decent place in a town thats been run down for decades? beer was a1, especially with the beer festival on - i'd suggest all those breweries love the fact we can all try their beers, and do it in somewhere that isnt going to be full of druggies, mess heads and wasters (see home tavern) - is now called the wagon works & is one of the best spoons ive been in!!

The Great Oak, Petersfield
Simply scary that I was polite enought to pay for the experience. Truly bad food. No ale on mate was the scruffy bar mans explanation ( had a soft drink over the lagers)
Any other pub in town would fail, they're obviously subsidised by the hotel ( same owners) which is always fully booked as there is nothing else for miles- just because you've a captive market, doesn't mean you should accept selling rubbish shame on you.
