I have been to Chicago’s in Bury, Norwich, Stafford, Wrexham and I’m sorry to say that this one at Chichester is the least good one of the chain I have been in. This place comes across as rather amateurish and common sense in its management seems to be a bit lacking, Even in winter and on a busy night, the cloakroom often seems to be closed which means you are stuck with your coat all evening. Somebody vomited the other night and it took 15 minutes for somebody to come and see to it. The bar service is excruciatingly slow when busy. Surely a couple of extra barstaff would reduce the wait and thus maintain customer loyalty and good mood. On one night the pumps were down. OK these things happen but then at least the place should have the good will to reduce the price of bottled drinks so that people like myself who drink pints, don’t end up having to pay 4 times as much for our liquid intake. Now let’s move onto music which is where this branch surpasses all others in its ability to do it really badly. The music is as loud in the seating area as it is in the dance area. You cannot possibly hear what other people sitting with you are saying unless they lean across into your ear. Likewise you have to lean across and shout into their ear. If you are talking to somebody for the first time, this unavoidable invasion of personal space is uncomfortable. Come on. That doesn’t take much working out. Up until fairly recently, there was a DJ who had been there more or less from the beginning and the way the music was done had to be quite the worst DJ-manship I had ever come across. Songs were just cut rather than faded out and at early or midway points which is very annoying if you are listening or dancing to particular piece. Even to this day, it is also like it is on a fixed loop where you soon get to know what the next 5 tunes will be and requests are rarely honoured. A taxi driver commented that you can set your watch by them. It’s also starting to drift away from the weekend party theme to more specialist tastes [those of the DJ, I assume] and what party tunes there are, still comprise of the same old stuff. Come on, get out there and bring in some other tunes. All these shortcomings could be sorted at very little cost, which I reckon, would then make for a great evening out. On the plus side the staff are always nice and polite. If there’s a fight, the doormen move in pretty darn quickly and it’s sorted before anybody’s really noticed - quite impressive! In all it’s improved in the last year but could do much better. Notice how much less busy it is now - even on a Saturday. As a party venue with nice staff, it deserves to do well but needs to pull its socks up on the attention to detail. anonymous - 20 Sep 2007 19:56 |
I'm soon to be 27, but what I noticed about this place immediately on entering is how much OLDER everyone appears to look on a Friday or Saturday night. Maybe it is the 'cheese' music they play which I hate. If you like Abba, Jackson 5, Wham or Village People, then this is the place for you. For me, it's all about Lloyds next door and not that I am tight, but for a better venue, they don't charge you to enter like this place does after a certain time over a Friday or Saturday night.
