The Three Horseshoes, Comberton

Good pub with very acceptable home cooked meals - lots of veg a bonus. Always one or two guest ales around, often Sharp's Doombar, but lots of others too.

One big grouse. Booked a table for my in-laws who duly asked at the counter and were put to sit at a particular table. Landlord then told them to move brusquely without even asking whether they had booked. On being told that they were sitting where directed, he did not apologize and grudgingly moved them elsewhere in the pub. NOT A GOOD WAY TO BUILD CUSTOM.

The Thornton Arms, Everton

Glad to find a village pub still open after a hot walk, and reasonable bar food available. They'd run out of baguettes so went to the shop to stock up. Beers well kept: Greene King IPA, St Edmunds and Adnams Bitter. Clean and well kept toilets.

The Five Miles From Anywhere No Hurry Inn, Upware

Excellent pheasant and partridge. Well kept ales. Fairly tedious decor.

The Chequers Inn, Wrestlingworth

New landlords- Ozzie chef and Cockney landlady - wonderfully eccentric decor. Has a real pub feel to it, but the food is definitely a cut above. We had top of the range 28 day matured Angus Aberdeen steak, and chef knows how to do blue rare - very rare indeed in England! Locally made desserts. Go and eat there: you won't be disappointed.
