More of a restaurant than a pub really. I've been in quite a few times for food while visiting relatives and I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone in the main bar who is just drinking. There is a pool room at the back that is a bit seedier than the main bar and does often have a few people drinking and playing pool.
The bar staff are friendly and the service is good. Eaten several times and have no complaints about the food, a good mix of traditional pub fare and some more imaginative specials, as well as some Thai food.
Agree that there is a slightly older demographic than might be expected!

Went here to see a folk gig. Very odd to find a folk band upstairs in a chain type pub like this! Beer was OK, some guest ales on that were perfectly passable.
I doubt I would come here again just to drink though, very similar atmosphere to any chain pub - i.e. not a lot!

The Hare and Hounds, Kings Heath
Have some good bands on in the upstairs room, but that's about the only thing to recommend it. Mediocre pub otherwise, clientle trying a bit too hard to be cool, beer nothing to write home about.

The sort of pub in the country that people who like "country pubs" go to. Fully expect it to be in some RAC guidebook.
Nothing wrong with the place and has real ales on tap. However feels a lot more like a restaurant with a bar attached.

The Bull At Broughton, Broughton
Decent selection of 3 local real ales and menu looked promising although I wasn't eating. Bit of a corporate lunchtime feel with the nearby Broughton Hall offices, but a pleasant enough place.

What a find. Plenty of local real ales and reasonable prices. A really good pub.

Closed, was OK for gigs, but beer and atmosphere was rubbish. Still rating it as a 10 though, so it is now closed but still rated higher than the Bulls Head, or Elizabeth of York. Which says it all.

Good choice of rotating real ales on about 8 or so taps. A bit more welcoming and accessible since the change of ownership, but without losing the charm.

Goose At The Fighting Cocks, Moseley
Much better after the refit and has a fantastic range of wines, beers and real ale (with an ever changing selection on three pumps). You have the option of getting your ale in a straight pint glass, proper mug/flagon or a crappy normal pint glass.
Food is decent as well and there is a different atmosphere in the different areas of the pub.
Only problem is the service, which is consistently slow, regardless of time of day. You never get served under 5 minutes and usually it is more like 15-20 at busy times.

No longer a Hogshead, Drift or the Salisbury, now called The Junction. Its a functional pub in the style of a Weatherspoons, or Lloyds bar. Its has little or no character, not a very good selection of beers. Last time I was in there, despite billing themselves as having "real ale" there was only one electric pump creamflow on offer. Half the food on the menu was not available and again, despite advertising themselves as a cricket and rugby pub they had only one screen showing the test match with no sound and were playing late 90's dance music. It was 2.30pm on a Sunday.
Avoid at all costs unless you are after a fair few drinks and getting off with a like minded soul of a Friday evening.

Better than it used to be. Menus are a bit simpler and food is good standard, although not cheap. No real ale, but a varied selection of foreign lagers and whatnot.

The Monks Walk, Beverley
A nice pub that has not been spoiled by unnecessary modernisation. A decent selection of ales and beers and I have no complaints about quality. Been here a few times and always an essential stop on any tour of Beverley's real ale offerings.
