The Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak

Visited on the recommendation of my good friend virginiaplain and was not disappointed. Every detail was excellent, from the vinyl LPs to the wide and fascinating selection of ales. A splendid establishment.

Wolsey's Bar and Eating House, Bangor

One of the better pints of Guinness in Ireland. A very pleasant atmosphere in the afternoon, although for the 35+ brigade, it gets very young / rowdy at night.

The Old Granary, Wareham

I had one of the most memorable - in a positive way - pub meals I've had in a long time at the Old Granary. Their Stargazy Pie, washed down with a pint of Badger, was genuinely superb. Nice atmosphere, lovely location and a really first rate pie.

The Countryman Inn, East Knighton

Spacious pub which serves a very decent pint of Ringwood. Good place to sit down for an hour or so with a pint and a book. Nothing legendary but not to be sniffed at.

The Old Ship Inn, Upwey

I visited this pub today and lunched on a very well cooked gilt-head bream, washed down with a pint of first rate Addlestones Cider and probably the finest pint of Ringwood it's been my pleasure to imbibe.

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping

A fine location and the pewter bar is certainly worth seeing. The ale is well kept and eminently quaffable - this pub is a must if you're in the Wapping / Rotherhithe area.

The Old Ale House, Truro

The quality of the beer is variable - some of the guest ales taste watery and uncared for. The atmosphere, however, is first rate.

The Richard Onslow, Cranleigh

Meagre fare, dreary decor and a prevailing air of misery. Not one for the purist.

Alfold Barn, Alfold

Splendid food, served by a loquacious and charming landlady. Not really a pub for a quiet pint but, as a pub-cum-restaurant, this is one of the better ones in Surrey.

The Cranley Hotel, Cranleigh

It provides a decentish ale or two but the landlady cuts a mournful figure and the food is mediocre at best.
