Light Bar, Shoreditch

Well, I had a bloody good time there. My girlfriend works just around the corner in the Tea building and goes there now and then for a spot of lunch.

I had the best time after watching the footie in the Pub on the Park. The group I was with went to the Light to see the magnificent David Mancuso for a really good time. There are some good views from the balcony and I ended up accidentally having a boogie with Dr.Truman off Eastenders, lol! Made some good contacts and my mate went missing for an hour downstairs after being accosted by two fat Brazilian hookers! Funny times!

The Pub on the Park, London Fields

I visited this pub during the 2006 World Cup in which England looked good to reach the semi's (no luck though) and was really pleased by the service - even though it was packed to the rafters.

I thought the general location, weather, service and chatty punters made my day. In fact, it was one of the best times I've had around Hackney/Shoreditch as our group then visited a pub round the corner and ended up at the Light bar for a David Mancuso gig upstairs! Belter of a day out!

The Kings Arms, Hitchin

Great pub. Always a winner. The perfect spot after all the other pubs close up for the night!

I really like the fact they have heaters in the outside beer area. As a smoker, it's the only pub in Hitchin which feels the same since the smoking ban all year round. I really like the atmosphere late at night and you can usually walk in with a few friends but come out knowing half the pub!

The Half Moon, Hitchin

Wow! Didn't realise this place did Old Rosie! I'll defo check it out again. Only ever been here 2 or 3 times but i was impressed each time.

Nice atmos and good service. If you like people-watching, this is the pub for you!

Ye Olde Black Boy, Hull

An outstanding traditional pub! I love everything about this place which is why it's been my usual haunt for the last three years!

Mine's a pint of Old Rosie please. Bet you can't drink more than six. I've only ever managed to drink five myself but that's more than most people can take.

Love it! Great staff, friendly regulars, best choice/quality in drinks and the Black Boy has an intriguing history. Ask the locals about the ghost stories!

Love it!

Barracuda Bar, Hull

Barracuda is a big, big place which caters mainly for sporting events. It's a hit during the day with busy business executives and it's also a hit during the evening when the music gets cranked up for beautiful people to make merry.

The pool tables offer either U.K or U.S pool but there's a 5 deposit on the bar for the cues, so beware! You probably won't get a good drop of beer here and I've noticed they don't clean their glasses thoroughly. You're left with that horrid crusty feeling on the inside of your pint where the froth has stuck to the sides. Also, the food is totally overpriced. I know it's a chain but the management could at least give the chef a kick up the arse from time to time. It might make him/her not put dried-up salad, burnt from the hotplate inside the kitchen. Actually, I've no idea what the kitchen looks like as it's tucked away at back behind a door. Never a good sign. Do not eat here.

They recently added an extra area to the pub which is absolutely pointless because it now has less space by the bar. Beware: if you're coming here to watch the footie or rugby, get there early to grab a decent seat. It's murder trying to get a drink when it's busy!

The Arena Tavern, Letchworth

Not sure as to when or indeed 'if' the Tavern will get knocked down. It would be a real shame if that happens as I know it's a big hit for Letchworthians like myself.

I'm completely aware that this pub has been home for many a good night and also very popular with regular pub-go'ers but I've never actually had a good experience in there.

Personally, I find the staff rude and snooty like a lot of the locals. Please don't get me wrong, i'm aware it's a good pub to have in Letchworth because of it's alternative lifestyle and refreshing difference, but my friends and I have been banned thrice by the most difficult of landladies (for doing absolutely nothing - just sitting near something which may have happened to warrant someone getting barred) who seems to have a terrifying hold over the punters. Whenever I go in there I get the same looks as you'd get if you were to walk into a random house on Christmas day and urinate all over the tree and presents.

There is also a lot of hostility conveyed by the regulars if you seem to be a stranger to the place. I lived at the back of the pub for about two years and never got a 'hello' or 'goodbye' when I walked in/out of there. Honestly, most of the customers in there look like they've just got off the train from Brighton after walking through a hemp and tie-die market, buying everything in sight. You'd think they'd be nice and friendly. Are they bollocks.

Anyway, apart from my main view/rant, it is a good little spot to have the pub and would be a real shame if it was knocked down.

George IV, Baldock

This pub will always stay close to my heart. It had it all! The fireworks on bonfire night were the best in the area and used to bring in the crowds like nobody's business. The staff (if you were fortunate enough to work there) had the best times!

This is possibly the best pub I've ever been in (as a member of staff AND as a punter) due to the friendliness of the landlord and staff. The food was top notch and offered HUGE portions for your money. Slightly pricey but well worth it.

The pub can accommodate group parties, coach parties and pretty much any event possible due to it's vast piece of land and large car park. It's on the edge of a big hill (good for sledging in Winter) and is surrounded by magnificent views.

There used to be dozens of locals who'd drink there very regularly and it would extremely popular with families, especialy on a Sunday. It's such a shame it was taken over by a pair of cretins who had no idea how to run a pub. I mean, imagine barring 75% of the regulars (including their families) because they were in there TOO often and "the place needed a clearout".

Honestly, you go away for a summer and everything changes! I've got no idea what it's like now. I really hope it is doing well because it's such a great place and is the ultimate 'First Pub' location of a pub crawl to start off from because it's the highest point of Baldock (pub-wise).

Little known fact: The bar staff knew it as " George the Filth " because of the shinnanigans and general debortuary after hours!!!!

The Old White Horse, Baldock

Nice pub. Used to have a Caribbean restaurant run by a man called Winston. The beer festival is held here every year and gets rammed!

The marquee thay erect out the back draws in so many customers. They must make money hand-over-fist in this place.

It's a great pub to watch the F1 on a weekend and has some lively and friendly locals. The food is a bit on the expensive side and the beer isn't far behind but, having said that, the quality is excellent.

It's a great pub with lots going on but I've noticed that recently it's been going downhill slightly because of the clientel from next door's 'The Engine'.

Also, sort out more seats!

Oh yeah, tall people, mind your heads! I'm constanly banging my head on the wooden beams in there! Haha!

The Orange Tree, Baldock

A cozy little place with a fab beer garden. Great to chill out there in the summer. You don't have to bother going inside either as they have a beer hatch which gets opened during sunny spells.

Inside is comfortable but has a tight feel to the side room. It's a good one to go to if you fancy catching up with a mate as there's no loud music or too much dissruption.

Slightly annoying is the fact it's away from the main drag and is difficult to incorporate into a pub crawl. It's a slight point, but worth mentioning.

22 Jan 2008 21:41

The Broken Drum, Baldock

This is a tidy little boozer with friendly staff and a great set of owners.

The beer they get in here is forever changing and they always seem to get bloody good drink on tap. It was the first place I saw to sell Red Stripe (years ago) and it was the only place in Baldock (it seemed) to get the best beers first.

The only bad point about it is the fact they never open the basement conversion and there's never enough room on the ground level! The amount of times I've wanted to spent a good 45 - 60 in there and had to leave because of no room is countless.

Also, some of the regulars get a bit too drunk for my liking. There used to be a bloke with a mangled ear who'd scowl at everyone upon entry - even if you saw him regularly. Bloomin' pissheads!

The George and Dragon, Baldock

This pub is closed....thank God.

Bit of a shame though really. A nice big building with some great memories and huge history.

22 Jan 2008 21:28

The White Lion, Baldock

This is a great little pub which is packed to the rafters almost every weekend. It's old, warm and cosy. There's pool to be played, good beer and wine to be drank and it even has a selection of chalets in the back beer garden in case anyone wants to stay overnight.

There's a jukebox in the corner of the front room and it's a good location to stop off at during a pub crawl. I've never known any trouble to kick off and the landlord is a talkative, if sleepy-sounding, generous bloke.

22 Jan 2008 21:27

Cock, Baldock

The posts left by others made me laugh hard! If it's still the same landlady as about 4-5 years ago, she is actually very nice. Maybe it's because she's Dutch as to why everyone thinks she's miserable. Funny stuff!

It's a great pub and I've enjoyed many a good time in there. Great fireplace and the landlord doesn't mind it if you chuck another log on the fire in the winter, if you feel a bit chilly.

Great locals to chat to and there's almost always someone at the bar on a weekend to have a chinwag with. All in all, an excellent pub.

The Boot, Baldock

The Boot used to be a cracking pub. One of the cheapest pubs in Baldock for pool too. It all seemed to go downhill when summer violence became fashionable outside in the street car park. They should never have changed the layout, in my opinion. I remember the toilets were always freezing!
