I frequented this bar today and can say that half of the style has been copied by the Squirrel at Hurtmore and you can see why. This is now a staggering success and I can confirm that the menu has now changed, including many intriguing specialities of food on the menu.
Did not sample the food on this occasion although i'm sure it would have been cooked rather well. Instead a pint of real ale was in order - the range being perhaps a bit slack as I plumped for the Ringwood - indeed I cannot remember the name of the other ale. Good news - no Stella or Kronenbourg on tap.

Half of the success of this now somewhat fashionable and ultra modern gastro pub can be seen at the Squirrel At Hurtmore - you can see perhaps see why they have copied the style, it brings in a classier range of clientele.
I have not visited Albany for a while and I am 100% sure it is in as fine a shape as it was on my last visit.

Sold out of San Miguel they have sold too many bottles at 99p! dont worry you can get becks for 99p instead!

Oh dear is it a gay pub really now? Well i suppose gay people need somewhere to have their fun ;)
15 Feb 2009 12:53
Location makes it awkward. Could be really good but as others have said the carpark is awkward and walking here isnt that much easier. Nice beer and area mind you.
15 Feb 2009 12:52
Not too pricey for a pint of hobgoblin. 25% off meals right now, even so can be a bit expensive even still. Nice location and people.
15 Feb 2009 12:51
Had a nice pint of Polar Bear. Good beer, decent all round, just lacks a little something but not sure what.
15 Feb 2009 12:49
Its not how it used to be. Has become a cheesey, over-priced venue.

Attracts a higher class of people than previously. The Rats Castle was a bit of a run down place. Its good now.

The Crown and Anchor, Old Woking
Apparently famous people come here. Bit run-down on previous visit but ok Pride and Youngs.

In Reply to Matthew, thats the whole charm of the place - in that it is old, and still has an old fashioned feel to it. Obviously i'd like it to be a little cleaner, but I have not noticed it to be filthy either. You don't like somewhere like the Auberge either which is the exact opposite of this!
Stay away from the T.E.A and Hobgoblin and try a Courage Best or Directors or as BeerSupper says lagers can be ok.

Visited on Saturday. Very empty for a Saturday lunchtime. Not sure what puts people off. Perhaps it is the long wait to be served a fairly basic meal. Having said that the food was pretty good here. I would not come here for a beer though. A 330ml bottle of Duvel shall set you back an astonishing 4.35 while a pint of Hoegaarden is a mere 3.90. I suppose there is at least a Becks vier for 3.10

I would like to say as an occasionally visitor to the Astolat I am sorry to hear this news. Have not visited the Astolat for about a year or so now, but it is never good to hear such tragic news. Indeed the Astolat is a decent pub and I hope whoever takes over gives the pub the service and work ethic the pub and locals deserve. Intend to visit when it opens again.

Very, very strange pub. Drinks can be charged at very strange prices.. 3.24 for a Corona etc.. Whats that all about? Too weird for me
2 Sep 2008 17:04
Am I right in thinking there is just 1 good pub in this road now?
22 Aug 2008 17:46
Thanks for the post DiscoBird, to be honest this place was poor on previous visit, and today well it was not worthwhile either.
It has turned into something of a scruffy locals pub, very much geared towards the middle-aged man. Don't expect to be welcomed here if your not a local!
Very disappointed as this used to be a good pub and sells Fullers beer. Nevermind, perhaps The Royal Oak is better.
Last visit for a while...

Hello
A recent visit here was worthwhile. The local beer was Hop, indeed it was rather hoppy - yet quite nice.
Confusing as to why they were showing The Weakest Link with the sound turned down! Perhaps it was because the Olympics had changed channels...
On another note the food menu has changed but they do a Pizza/Drinks offer, so some people may wish to take this up.
22 Aug 2008 17:43
Stopped in here today for an afternoon drink.
Guess what the drinks range has changed - on draught were Amstel, Peroni and Stella. Great for the Real Ale drinker then (He says with a hint of irony)
Being that i'd already decided to go I plumped for a Stella and a packet of crisps. The total price 4.40!

Lighten up Mr Reasonable, at least it is big, spacious and 'reasonably' clean. Did you get my pun?!
5 Aug 2008 22:12
Thanks for the info Mr Ford. Will they make me very drunk? I can assume so.
5 Aug 2008 22:11
Now if you can avoid the sometimes very rude staff you may enjoy yourself here... I am not saying all the staff are rude just about 3 people... 2 I believe no longer work here. It is a nice pub apart from that.
The only other downside is that it is more expensive than The George Abbot across the road. I may visit again in the near future and report further. The ales here tend to be seasonable.
5 Aug 2008 22:10
Chat to all the girls eh Mr? Anyway kinda smart and cool inside, drinks are not too clever, interesting Polish lager on offer is ok
24 Jul 2008 15:12
Word of warning - Peroni Beer cost's 3.70 a pint. Its not even that good - trust me!
24 Jul 2008 15:11
Archee's Bar and Restaurant, Woking
Something smell's fishy hey Mr :-)
Just kidding. The Tv's tend to show rip-roaring loud music, not a place for the Ale Drinker, Becks Vier on Tap is bearable.
24 Jul 2008 15:10
I'd agree with Jonny. Staff should wake up!
Do you mean Kronunberg 1664? I'm not sure why people would drink this here when there are fine pints of Fullers, lager drinker I expect.
Good to see a pub actually bringing a Dartboard in rather than the reverse.
15 Jul 2008 21:00
Claims to be cheaper in the selling of almost all beverages than other Guildord bars and pubs. You can't beat that, the quality is not worse.
9 Jul 2008 17:20
Good to hear it may be getting better here, warrants a more warm atmosphere, because it has potential. It is not quite in a rough area of Guildford, unlike the Weavers.
9 Jul 2008 17:19
This used to be the best and most interesting pub in Godalming, i'll visit again soon to see if that is true.
8 Jul 2008 19:06
Visited a few years ago. Strangely eerie as I remember, oh wait thats Godalming as a whole. I'm right it is haunted.
8 Jul 2008 19:06
Closest of the pubs to the station, so best for a late night drink.

The Slug and Lettuce, Godalming
If its better than the one in Guildford (which isnt hard) I may visit sometime.
8 Jul 2008 19:05
The Kings Arms Royal Hotel, Godalming
Is it really haunted. To be honest I didnt visit because of the ghosts. It may be nice inside.
8 Jul 2008 19:04
Slightly messy, but enjoy the Badger beer. Not too-off putting people in here.
8 Jul 2008 19:04
Seemed a bit weird, as I remember or maybe it was the fact I was probably drunk.
8 Jul 2008 19:03
Shame its closed. I used to enjoy coming here when it was Hush and before that the Sports Bar. Small but has a certain feel 2 it.
8 Jul 2008 19:01
I'm thinking Oska is not part of this stitch-up.
Anyway... the five and lime, better than the legion. have eaten here once, the beer is better than some bars too.
8 Jul 2008 11:52
I am generally a fan of O'Neills. This one however is not so good. I've never really enjoyed coming here and have tried to put my finger on why...
1) Just never found the people here friendly, the staff and the customers in general.
2) Its often too crowded with people hogging around the bar area. This isnt required, they don't even move out of the way.
3) The music they do here is boring. They have done cover songs, it lacks inspiration.
To be honest its just not a place I like to go.
7 Jul 2008 18:30
Trainman has a lot to say. In fact there is not too much to add, seeing as he mentioned what kind of Ales they have, to be honest I like the different range from mainstream ales that this place offers. Well done.
5 Jul 2008 05:59
Currenly a pub making the most of the summer. Plenty out outside sitting space, does the garden combine with the Olivio restaurant? I think so, Biker probably knows.
Typical ales on at the moment are T.E.A, Courage Best, Courage Directors and Hobgoblin. Call me hard to please, but they seem to have been the same for ages! Ancient pub, which had a fire not so long ago, if you walked in you probably would not notice.
5 Jul 2008 05:57
The courtyard is now open until 11pm! If anyone is that bothered? Probably the people who come here to have a smoke. They sell an unusual Japanese lager, but I would not touch that if I was you, does weird things to your head. A good venue nontheless.
5 Jul 2008 05:55
Not sure its a bar or a nightclub. Not worth paying 3.50 for a San Miguel, surely?
5 Jul 2008 05:54
No real Ale whatsoever in this place. Find it hard to give it a very good rating at all. 1/10 for being there.
2 Jul 2008 21:42
The Guildford Hotel, Guildford
It is a good venue if you like to watch sports on TV. It is worthy of a decent rating of around 8/10. Would like more ales on tap to be honest. Still, it is the Guildford Hotel, not sure why it keeps changing its name.
2 Jul 2008 21:39
Quite pricey for a place to eat to be honest, not very brilliant really. Only worthy of a 3 out of 10 at the most. Would not come here regularly it has to be said.
2 Jul 2008 21:38
I've visited this place a few times. I'll give it a chance, does seem a little on the pricey side, however the people here are quite nice and the beer is ok. Not the worst pub in town.

The Wey Inn, Godalming
Old fashioned pub and I enjoy it here + the dart board is good and all. Pretty decent ale normally.
