The Exhibition Inn, Great Wakering
Busy, friendly, good selection of beers, only one real ale tho, excellent food, nice garden.
Always a pleasure to stop by for a swift half. Pool room has own bar, sofas & telly! Good friendly locals pub which attracts the world for Sunday lunch.
Mind the fish-pond.

The Castle Inn, Little Wakering
Newly refurbished (please supply a new picture - this one don't do it justice)! Friendly & enthusiastic staff, selection of good quality real ale (usually 3 on). Good juke-box, comfortable seating, the deepest pile carpet this side of Elton John's bedroom. Pool table, cash machine, plasma tellies.
While not the busiest of places at the moment, bring some of your own atmosphere and you won't be dissapointed. Just needs to settle in and attract some more regulars, then this place won't look back. Particularly when they get the kitchen sorted and start doing food.

The Who'd A Thought It, Glastonbury
Beer and spirits good and fairly priced. Very friendly Landlord and Landlady and staff.
Food is OUTSTANDING. Pub prices for top restaurant quality. Very busy on a Saturday night so you're better off booking a table in advance, but it is well worth it. Stay the night in one of the clean & comfortable rooms & get a wonderful breakfast in the morning! Get a neck-ache and eyestrain trying to read all the posters, pictures & plaques. Interesting reading matter on the very clean toilt's walls.
I cannot recomend this place highly enough.

The Crooked Billet, Leigh on Sea
Lovely pub, sorry dannycb, good selection of beers and wines. If you don't fancy the cockles etc outside, good food to be had inside, particularly on a Sunday.
Don't have too much to drink before leaving tho'...the steps can be leathal....

The Last Post, Southend on Sea
The best cheap entertainment available in Southend on a Saturday night is to get yourself a table in the centre of the pub, get a round of drinks in and wait.
The place fills up with people wanting to get tanked up before heading to the clubs. No violence, no disorder, but just purly Hilarious. God Bless the bar staff for putting up with them.
Come 10.15, the place is emptying, your sides are aching through 2 hours of laughter & you can just about aford a plate of chips, Guinness & large Jim Beam.
Top value night out.
I'm the sad old bloke in the corner laughing...

The Borough Hotel, Southend on Sea
Real-ale, Scrumpy Jack, cheap pool, friendly staff, house doubles, sofas, comfortable window seats to watch the chavs bimble about outside in the cold, jukebox good value to.
Never packed this time of year, and service quicker than O'Neils....

Friendly pub for a lunch-time drink. McKewans (sp?) lager and bitter on draught, which is novel. No food, but beer fairly priced.
Never had a hard time like anonymous,so all I can say is I like it.

The Hope Hotel, Southend on Sea
Good cider. Good DJs, even the guitarist is on form. Pat, the door man, is a Top Man.
The clientel aint your usual young bucks on a night out, but thank God for that. A good time had by all.
If you don't like this pub, you aint got no soul.
Even better on biker weekend at the start of the year too.

Very friendly pub near top of high street. Traditional 3 room pub with very pleasant beer garden. Good juke-box (Wurzels a permenant fixture). Thatchers cider on draught/barrel on bar. Pork scratchings to die for.

The Guildford, Southend on Sea
Friendly little boozer away from the High Street & Seafront. New faces always welcome in this busy one bar local's pub. Friendly landlord, IPA the only beer on hand-pump but other good quality beers and cider available, good juke-box, excellent Chinese next door.

Yates Wine Lodge, Southend on Sea
Now closed. Thank God. Going to be ANOTHER tapas restaurant. Wish it better luck at that as it was a very poor pub.
Food was nice tho...but you had to wait ages for it.
Another tapas, just what Southend needs. Not.
