although this pub is in huge need of some TLC from the brewery it really is a hidden gem, and probably southends best kept secret. the beer is the second cheapest of all the pubs in the area and is well cared for, the menu is good and the food always cooked well. all the matches are shown and the atmosphere is great with a really friendly bunch of staff and regulars you soon feel welcome. Go on the Gilly! mat210 - 27 Feb 2011 14:47 |
this is great local as far southend locals go.! recently taken on new manegment (mark and andrina) the guildford is rapidly transforming into a great place for new and old consumers. i would hole hartedly recomend the guildford to anyone passing or thinking of a great and friendly pub for either a great night out drinking, or a perfect, value for money eating experience!! with warm friendly staff, monday quiz night, and thursday poker night, pool team, and dj's performing, the guidford pub is now in my opinion my pub of choice. my advise is, anyone looking for great local... dont knock it till youve tried it ! :) fletch77 - 20 Jul 2010 16:19 |
The rapid closing down of pubs is bad enough though the suffocating effect of bland corporate pubs is not much better. The lack of a pub atmosphere is evident as you walk through the door and the choice of beers - or complete lack of in the case of real ale - further confirms this. For those seeking a good pub experience then avoid this pub. My visit was enlivened by a couple of Delboys selling dubious goods - I'm sure the Greene King board wouldn't have welcomed their presence. EssexDave - 6 Jan 2010 13:17 |
