The Corn Exchange, Bury St Edmonds
Nice building and well done by Wetherspoons however the service when I called was painfully slow with not enough staff behind the bar. I was ignored three times by the sole barman on duty until someone pointed out to him I was waiting. In the end I was served by the assistant manager. I won't be rushing back to this pub and will go elsewhere like Oakes Barn, The Beerhouse or the Rose and Crown.

The Lord Aberconway, Liverpool Street
A very pleasant pub with friendly staff situated very close to Liverpool Street Station. I called in here the other day with a friend whilst we were waiting for our trains. We also ordered food which both of us thought was really good. They had a decent range of real ales on tap. I would certainly call in here again if in the area.

A decent pub located near the town centre with competitively priced beers. Always a decent selection with Woodfordes Wherry and Crouch Vale Brewers Gold on and four guest ales. Also has a couple of lagers on as well.

Decent pub that does great value food. Very close to Norwich cathedral. When I called in they had great range of beers on. I had a Little Sharpie from Humpty Dumpty and then an Edith Cavell from Wolf Brewery. Both were excellent and well kept. The staff seemed friendly and very pleasant. Would certainly call back if in the area.

The Devonshire Arms, Cambridge
Called in here whilst I had a bit of a wait for a train. This pub is very close to Cambridge Railway station if you exit through the car park. There was a good selection of Milton Brewery's beers on offer. I had a Pegasus which was very good. It's a decepetive place. It looks small from the outside but stretches quite a way back when inside. A decent boozer and worth visiting if nearby.

New addition to the Norwich pub scene. Has a large range of beers on tap and also a varied collection of bottled beers. Has a decent selection of the Redwell Brewery's range. Beers can be a bit pricey but worth seeking out as it's in a decent location.

I think this pub may have closed has it always seems to be in darkness when I pass by and the car park is empty. It may also explain why Greene King have refurbished the nearby Greengage pub recently.

Very busy pub with an excellent range of beers and lagers. The staff and locals are very friendly. Well worth a visit when in the area. They have a home brew shop as well over the road. Beers are on draught and also in a tap room meaning there is always a great selection.

Decent pub close to Colchester North station. Had a reasonable range of Greene King beers. Worth a visit if in the area. Has a pool table and a beer garden at the back.

Kings Arms Hogshead, Colchester
Busy pub close to the town centre. Keeps Greene King beers but has a large range of lagers as well. Had a Golden Hen and few pints of Estrella. Has a large beer garden at the back.

Superb pub with a great selection of bottled and draught lagers and beers. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. A great place to relax and sample some of the range.

The Greengage, Bury St Edmunds
Although I live near to this pub I haven't been in here for about 5 years, I usually drink in the real pubs in the town. I called in today and they had just 2 hand pumps on. Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale. The pub is part of their Hungry Horse group. They had quite a few lager taps and a few bottled beers as well. I thought it was OK place, the staff were pleasant and friendly enough.

The Masons Arms, Bury St Edmunds
Recently refurbished town centre pub that does food. They have a glass floor in the bar so you can see down in the cellar. Might be OK as long as you don't suffer from vertigo! It's a very pleasant pub with an extensive range of Greene King beers and one guest ale on when I called in on a Wednesday lunchtime. It was quite busy, a combination of drinkers and diners. They have an outdoor drinking area as well. I got served quickly on both occasions I went to buy a drink. I would certainly call in here again if in the area.

No frills local that has two bars and a function suite. When I called in they had 1 real ale on tap. There is a small lounge bar and a large public bar with a room with a pool table, quiz machine and fruit machine next to it. There are dart boards in both bars. Seemed a friendly establishment and the barman was polite and efficient.

Stayed for 1 night in the Premier Inn nearby so called in for something to eat. Had the usual Brewers Fayre food on the menu. I was disappointed that neither of the two cask ales, Woodfordes Wherry or the Adnams Bitter was on so had to settle for a lager. The staff were vey efficient and pleasant.

Popular brasserie situated on a busy road leading down from the Gare Du Nord and halfway between the big Department store, Galleries Lafayette. If using the metro then the nearest stations would be Cadet or Notre Dame De Lorette. It was busy when I called in for a couple of beers. They do decent food here as well although I didn't eat there on this occasion I have done before. The staff I talked to spoke English and all were very pleasant.

The Elephant and Castle, Bury St Edmunds
Pub boarded up and up for sale. Would imagine the clientele will gravitate to the recently opened Weatherspoons pub, The Corn Exchange.

The Minden Rose, Bury St Edmunds
Now appears to be boarded up and looks decidedly unloved at present.

The Fox and Fiddler, Colchester
Very pleasant pub that does good value food as well. They always have beers from Mighty Oak on and a couple of other guest beers as well. The staff are friendly and welcoming and I'd certainly call back if I'm in this area again.

Very friendly pub that is handy for the railway station. I often pop in here if I have a spare few minutes to wait for the train to Bury St Edmunds. They have at least 4 cask ales on and 4 ciders as well. The staff are always pleasant and amiable.

The Green Man, Six Mile Bottom
I called in the other night to find this was a very popular pub that specialises in steaks. They even have a challenge for you to eat a 72oz steak within an hour or pay 60-00 for a doggy bag if you fail. They serve Greene King IPA, I couldn't see any other draught beers on tap. The staff were all very pleasant and efficient and it seems to attract a diverse clientele from teenagers to OAP's.

I called in the other evening with a friend for a meal. This pub has recently under gone a refurbishment. It had 4 Greene King beers on draught and I chose the St Edmunds. They also had five lagers and an Orange Wheat beer called Blue Moon which I also tried. The food was very good and there is an extensive menu. I found the staff very pleasant and efficient and would certainly call back here again.

Apparently the brewery have applied for planning permission to convert this pub into two houses and build another on the car park. Looks like it's days are numbered which is a shame as I often used to drink in here a few years ago.

Very pleasant friendly little pub that does great Thai cuisine. Although the beer range isn't extensive it's well worth a visit.
29 Sep 2011 16:04
Very pleasant pub with friendly staff and a decent selection of ales. Has a large beer garden out the back. A visit is highly recommended.
29 Sep 2011 16:01
Great pub, great staff and a superb selection of beers. Who could want anything more?

The Fur and Feather Inn, Woodbastwick
Called in here yesterday after a trip to the next door Woodfordes Brewery. The beer as you would expect was excellent being poured straight from the cask. The only gripe was the price which at about 3-35 for the Sundew I felt was a bit excessive, however it is a cracking pub in a lovely setting. Well worth a visit.

The Queens Head, Bury St Edmunds
I used to drink in this pub quite regularly but hadn't been for a couple of years now. It seems to be geared up for sports fans with several large screen TV's about the place. It was quite busy for a lunchtime with people eating and they have a large courtyard area outside for smokers. I had a couple of pints of the Nethergate Umbel Magna, they had 2 other real ales on. Very pleasant pub, probably catering more for the younger drinkers and sports fans . Certainly worth a visit if in this part of the town though.
24 Aug 2011 15:36
I hadn't been in this pub for about 5 years but was pleasantly surprised when I ventured in today. The staff were very pleasant and they had 5 cask beers on. It was very busy for a lunchtime but I was served very quickly and had 2 pints of Golden Sheep. I'd certainly pop back here again for a pint or two in the near future.

I recently stayed in a nearby hotel as I was catching the Eurostar early the next day. Had a look in my Good Beer Guide and chose this pub. It was quite busy on the Saturday night as the Six Nations Rugby match they were showing on the 4 screens around the pub had just finished. I was served quickly however and had a pint of Kent's Best Bitter which I hadn't tried before. The pub was set with tables and chairs and some high tables and stools. There was also a couple of lounge chairs facing each other as you walked through the door next to a large bookcase. I then had two pints of Spitfire which I really like. It's certainly handy for the stations at Euston, Kings Cross and St Pancras and I would definitely call in here again if in this vicinity.

Benson Blakes Bar and Grill, Bury St Edmunds
Very pleasant place for a drink. They have a constantly rotating choice of real ales. Called in on a Monday night and it was quiet but I can imagine it gets a bit lively later in the week. I'd certainly call in here again for a drink.

The Angel Hotel, Bury St Edmunds
Called in here for a drink the other evening. I had never been in the hotel before although I've lived in BSE for 13 years. I found a pleasant bar with friendly staff. The downside, it was a bit pricey. A pint of Adnams Spindrift was 4-10 and a glass of Chardonnay 5-10. Certainly a very nice place for a drink but there a lot cheaper alternatives in the town.
8 Sep 2010 11:57
Called in here on a Tuesday lunchtime and found quite a busy establishment with a good selection of Youngs beers on. The staff were welcoming and pleasant.

The Beerhouse, Bury St Edmunds
Called in and found a pleasant airy estabishment. The smell of new paint was prevalent as it's only been open a few days. There were 6 real ales plus Thatchers cider on draught. The lagers on tap were Becks Vier, Leffe and Staropramen, They also had bottled Peroni and Corona. I started with a TT Landlord, then a very nice Oakham Inferno followed by a Hop Back Summer Lightening. This pub is in a great location and should provide a welcome addition for real ale drinkers in the town.
30 Jul 2010 11:13
A very pleasant country pub with friendly staff and a decent menu. When I went in, I tried a pint of Nethergate Pheasant Best which was very good. Situated in a rural setting, this is a pub that's well worth going to for a pint and a meal.
26 May 2010 10:02
Visited this pub at lunchtime today whilst waiting for a train. I found a pleasant bar full of old fruit machines and various ephemera. I was served quickly and found the staff to be pleasant and attentive. I had a pint of Greene King IPA but they had Abbott and Old Speckled Hen on as well. I'd certainly visit again if in the area as it's quite handy for the railway station.

St Edmunds Tavern, Bury St Edmunds
I went in here today for the first time in years. What a transformation. Now called the St Edmund's Tavern. This place has certainly had the treatment. Now turned into a stylish olde world style bar that looks to attract the food crowd. I found the 3-10 for a pint a IPA a bit pricey but it was one of the best IPA's I've had in the town where it's brewed. I'd certainly drink here again and it's definitely lost the rough image it used to have.
19 Apr 2010 19:52
Called in here the other day after being told by friends what a great pub it was. I was not disappointed. Six pumps on, with the staples being Woodfordes Wherry and Crouch Vale Brewers Gold and four ever changing guest ales. The 1/2 pint of pork scratchings was a great idea. It may have been my first visit to this pub but it certainly won't be my last. Congratulations to the landlord Roger for running a corking pub.

The Fiddler Den Haag, Den Haag
Called in here a few times on a recent holiday in The Hague. The staff were always very pleasant and the pub does a good range of snacks. It was great to see a proper style "English Pub" in Europe, but one that also serves an excellent range of beers and lagers. I'd certainly call back in here again if staying in the area.

The Old Cannon Brewery, Bury St Edmunds
A very good pub with a fine selection of beers. Usually has a guest beer and Adnams best as well as up to four of their own brews. Also sells Calvors Suffolk lager. The Black Pig and St Edmunds head are particularly to my taste. Has an excellent menu and is well worth visiting if in the area. All the staff are friendly and welcoming. It can get busy in the evenings and Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes. It opens all day now on Saturdays and Sundays.

I stayed here recently whilst attending a concert at Wembley Arena. All the staff were very pleasant. The food was very good and well cooked. I did have a pint of Peroni but at 4-05 for a pint I switched back to the Young's Special. It was very good and well kept. It seemed a popular place and was very busy on all three nights I stayed here. I'd certainly call in again for a drink if in the area.

The Coastguard Inn, St Margarets Bay
Called in here last week whilst staying in the area. It was a very pleasant experience. There were four real ales on tap and I selected the Hopdaemon Incubus. We all had fish and chips which were very good, followed by an English Cheeseboard. The staff were very attentive and the service was excellent. I would certainly call back again if in this area.

Rose and Crown, Bury St Edmunds
A very traditional pub close to the Greene King Brewery and the Theatre Royal. A Greene King pub and one with decor firmly in the 80''s but that adds to the charm of this pub. A very pleasant landlord. They usually have three guest beers on as well as the usual GK offerings. Timothy Taylor''s Landlord is often on and they do keep a great pint here. Popular with workers from the nearby GK Brewery so that is a recommendation in itself.
