I have been to this pub quite a few times now. They do nice food and it has been refurbished so is a very venue.
The downside is that the staff (management) fall down on their organisational skills. I have booked a party of people to have a meal. But it is a hard job. They dont send menus when they say they will you have to chase them. Then they sent a list to book but not the full menu so I had to query items. We arrived to be told 2 times we are getting your table ready then just doing some writing (eh what!!). Having finally got to the table it wasnt laid out properly. We had to chase for items and finally the coffee was cold.
So sorry they need to get a lot more organised. If they did it would be great as I say the food is nice. I know of others who have had the same problems so it no just me.

I have been to this pub quite a few times now. It has always without exception been (even on very busy days) excellent service and food. They were very good about changing items on the menus and accommodating special diets. The staff are just in the background but ready to appear just as you wish to order food/drinks. They have the idea of good service down to a tea. I really do recommend this pretty and friendly pub.
They also do set priced menus and I hear you can now book tables. I cant fault it.

I agree with the reviewers report below dated 29th June 2008. The service can be dire. I am sure I too had the misfortune to encounter the same waitress he describes. She was rude and shouted at customers.
There was a group of us and one person took a list of our orders to the bar they thanked her and took the list. But some orders where wrong informed of that in a very polite informal way - the waitress shouted (yes shouted) at our group well thats your fault you got it wrong. We asked for the list back to check but she flounced off in a huff. The 2nd waitress arrived with more meals (totally different character) gave no apologies but said no thats Ok it was an error in the kitchen.
On the plus side the food has always been good. It is home cooked and well priced.
Just a shame they dont train their staff better. Plus get rid of the hard wooden stools in the lounge area. It is a shame as we have been at other times and it was nice. It kind of puts you off going back!

The Moon and Mushroom, Swilland
This pub has changed hands but it is still trading off being Pub of the Year several times but that was with the old landlord plus lady who did food then is not there now.
Plus points: -
You can book a table (you couldnt before)
Food is nice (was better before!)
Seats outside nice on hot day
Has been re decorated
Minus points: -
Food was better before (not same lady doing food now) it is nice but not as good as it was!
Preferred option to help yourself to the vegetables e.g. have what you like rather than what they put on your plate
Very hot restaurant room no air to it and very small

My husband and stayed at this pub last weekend. We have used the pub many times when in the area and always found it to be good. The pub is a nice country pub and very popular with locals. So we decided to have a treat and a night away staying in one of the rooms in the new block at the back of the pub.
The rooms were built last year so they are very modern and well done. The website shows the rooms as they are. We had lots of nice white fluffy towels it was very clean with a modern bathroom. You get a TV and kettle with lots of tea (all types)/coffee/hot chocolate etc. Plus a nice balcony or patio area to sit on.
We had our evening meal at the pub and got so much we couldnt eat it all. It was a hot summer evening and we sat outside on one of the new table/chairs. Its set out really nicely. My husband is a fussy eater but loves the food here.
Breakfast is taken in the conservatory / dining area of the pub. We were greeted and allowed to sit where we felt comfortable then offered tea/coffee and you get a nice big pot of tea. We had the full English plus toast and there are also juice/cereals too. I couldnt fault it. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We will return thank you we enjoyed out stay and the rooms where full, which I think, speaks for itself. There is a lot to do in the area. The village has a shop, church, walks and antique shop. Go to Burnham Market and Holt both nearby with nice shops/pubs etc. Also go to Holkham Hall that is nearby and the park is free to visit.
