Despite previous comments our group had a good day at The Sorrel horse. The pub was extremely busy which was good to see. Food was entirely satisfactory with more than enough on the plates. motorcyclist - 21 Feb 2011 12:46 |
What a charming pub with good beer and great location Pixy28 - 11 Aug 2010 18:23 |
I agree with the reviewers report below dated 29th June 2008. The service can be dire. I am sure I too had the misfortune to encounter the same waitress he describes. She was rude and shouted at customers. There was a group of us and one person took a list of our orders to the bar they thanked her and took the list. But some orders where wrong informed of that in a very polite informal way - the waitress shouted (yes shouted) at our group well thats your fault you got it wrong. We asked for the list back to check but she flounced off in a huff. The 2nd waitress arrived with more meals (totally different character) gave no apologies but said no thats Ok it was an error in the kitchen. On the plus side the food has always been good. It is home cooked and well priced. Just a shame they dont train their staff better. Plus get rid of the hard wooden stools in the lounge area. It is a shame as we have been at other times and it was nice. It kind of puts you off going back! Pip123 - 12 May 2009 15:09 |
We always enjoy visiting this pub and today was no exception. There's an attractive beer garden and kids' play area, and at the weekends decent food is served all day. 2 real ales on offer- Spitfire and Adnams bitter- both were in good condition. We didn't eat here today but the pub was busy with diners and everyone seemed happy enough. edchambers - 15 Mar 2009 22:12 |
The pub is set in a wooded area which provides shade where required and has a large beer garden with seating and an extensive play area. Also nice touches are the horses in the adjoining field who observe the humans at play. When we arrived mid-aft the inside was half-full and lots of families outside enjoying the sun. We settled in for a pint, however sadly the same criticisms exist in this service industry such as what service? tsk!. There were 3 ales (Adnams, Spitfire + one other) I plumped for the Spitfire and my larger drinking companion shunned the lager on tap and went for BecksThe beer wasnt great and the service was shocking to the extent that in between grunts from the young woman she whisked away the menu as I was studying it?! Settling down for a pint outside in the beer garden we eventually found a less sticky table, polished off our drinks quickly and left the families to enjoy their fried food and poor pints.
