Three Horseshoes Inn, Sidlow Bridge

Went in one Saturday lunchtime and thought the food and beer was good.

A young couple seated at the back had a kiddie with them that they kept mostly under control.
All well and good, as they were there for lunch and left not long after.

However in the main bar were two men with buggies, each with a screaming baby, and a kiddie running about.

Puts me off going to a pub to find it has become more of a creche.

The Prince of Wales, Merton

Went in on a Saturday night. Only draught beer was Youngs Bitter. There was a pump that had a Doombar pump clip, over which was a Bombardier clip, but that too was Youngs Bitter.

So I had a bottle of Bombardier, which was warm.

21 Apr 2014 12:28

The Princess Royal, South Wimbledon

Redeveloped as housing - the pub as a house, with 6 flats built in what was the garden.

21 Apr 2014 12:13

The Sultan, South Wimbledon

Easter weekend beer festival still had beer left on the Saturday evening, whereas a few years ago it had sold out in the afternoon!

All pints were £3 paid for using raffle tickets bought from the bar.

21 Apr 2014 12:09

The Bree Louise, Euston

The 50p 'discount' seems to be added to the price of the beer, e.g. £4.70p for a pint of Guinness. The bar staff ask for your CAMRA number, but also, according to their website, this discount applies to NHS staff and members of the forces.

Ye Olde White Horse, Aldwych

terrible pub - don't go there! if you're a student, use the union bar nearby; if you're a lecturer go somewhere else

and leave it all to me as it's a great pub with nice beer, great wings, table service and good music

21 Jan 2014 16:32

The Cockpit, Blackfriars

Had a couple of nice pints of Adnams one afternoon. Being a Sunday there were free nibbles available: cheese and crackers and the like. Interesting old pub.

Regulars congregated at the bar while the lower level had a variety of tourists and even a group of St Pauls Cathedral volunteers who could be heard chatting about bishops...different from the usual football banter.

Well worth popping into on the way to Blackfriars station, as an alternative to the Blackfriar.

21 Jan 2014 16:27

The Ivy House, Nunhead

spent a pleasant Saturday afternoon there; the beer was good; the moo pie/chips/peas at 8 quid was nice; the decor, wooden panels etc., made for a traditional feel.

Too many screaming kids running around for my liking, but I'm told they're only allowed up to 8pm.

19 Jan 2014 11:07

The Town of Ramsgate, Wapping

smaller riverside garden than the nearby Captain Kidd but better beer and friendlier staff

28 Jul 2013 09:55

The Craft Beer Co, City of London

friendly and efficient staff and a great range of beers; before you've had too many, have a look at the mirror clock in the ceiling!

28 Jul 2013 09:52

The Town of Ramsgate, Wapping

1.95 for a handful of nuts

19 May 2013 09:39

The Prospect of Whitby, Wapping

visited on a Saturday afternoon: short measures on the pints - almost an inch lower than the rim! two families with their screaming babies in the garden made it impossible to stay

19 May 2013 09:37

The Globe Inn, Weymouth

Jail Ale was good and the pub itself is bright and clean.

6 Oct 2010 08:35

The Somerset Hotel, Weymouth

Friendly pub near the station and has free wifi, ask for the password.

6 Oct 2010 08:27

The Wellington Arms, Weymouth

Clean pub. A good resource in the centre of the town.

6 Oct 2010 08:17

The Dolphin, Weymouth

Friendly small local, conveniently close to the station but not on top of it. Summer Lightning was good.

6 Oct 2010 08:16

The Giant Pot, Weymouth

Has scaffolding over it with a sign saying it will reopen Spring 2011. Pub name to be changed too.

6 Oct 2010 08:14

The William IV, Leyton

Visited their beer festival on Sunday. Although crowded, there were some seats available. Wide range of strange-tasting beers made more palatable by the two quid price. The elizabethan smelt of road tar, ridiculous. Hog roast not ready until 5pm. Also tried Brokeback Bitter, one of their 'gay beers'. WTF is a gay beer, and what is the point? This pub is only for CAMRA weirdos.

6 Sep 2010 09:08

The Halfway House, Brenchley

This August Bank Holiday's Beer Festival has 42 barrels in the garden. All beers at 3 a pint. A whiteboard lists them from lowest to highest alcohol. On Saturday it started with South Sea Spice at 3.9% ending with at Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby at 6%.

29 Aug 2010 14:24

Wheelwright Arms, Matfield

Haven't been here for about 5 years. There have been changes to make the place more lighter, and I think some partitions have come down to make it more open. Old dark wood tables have been replaced by brighter wood. Beer choice was good and the Whitstable & Spitfire were in good form. Matfield has 3 good pubs, all along the road that runs through the village which is served by a bus that runs up to 11pm on the Tun Wells and Paddock Wood route. This and the other two pubs, the Star, and Morrels (formerly Standings Cross), could form part of a pub crawl in the area. Walking across fields from here could include the Hopbine and Halfway House in Brenchley.

8 Aug 2010 11:47

Star Inn, Matfield

Haven't been here for 5+ years. The back rooms seemed to be closed off? The beer was in good nick though.

8 Aug 2010 11:41

Morello, Matfield

The bar and oak beams are the only part of the former Standings Cross pub that remains. The pub has been turned into a bright/shiny restaurant. The Sussex was incredibly good though, and the staff were friendly and didn't seem to be put out that we only went in for beer. It is still worth adding this to a pub crawl of the area. The bus stop, for buses to Tun Wells/Paddock Wood, is nearby.

8 Aug 2010 11:40

Anchor, Yalding

Easy walk from Yalding station as there is a pavement alongside the road. The setting had much promise but the choice of real beer was limited. Didn't finish the Directors.

8 Aug 2010 11:35

Bull Inn, East Farleigh

Lovely drop of Harveys. Great service too. A wedding party came in just as I went to the bar and the landlord was busy with them, so he called to the kitchen for reinforcements and I was served straight away. Food was good too. I liked the 'Bull Dog' - Korkers sausage and my friend's Ploughmans looked the best I have seen in a long while. The pub is up a steep climb from the station, but the walk is worth it and crosses the river on a narrow bridge. Take a camera.

8 Aug 2010 11:32

The Railway, Wateringbury

Poor real ale choices - the Green King IPA tasted keggy. Expensive round too.

8 Aug 2010 11:29

The Prince of Wales, Merton

Went to the Beer Festival on Sat, beers available were

Sanbrooks Junction (4.5%)
Sanbrooks Wandle (3.8%)
Brains SA (4.2%)
Chiltern Cobblestones (3.5%)
Darkstar Solstice (4.2%)
Darkstar Espresso (4.2%)
Cotleigh Harrier (3.5%)
St Austell Tribute
Jorvik Blonde (3.8%)

Hog Roast was yummy too...

Shady spots in the garden to hide from the sun, live music - a very comfortable afternoon!

4 Jul 2010 07:41

The Prince of Wales, Merton

mmm hog roast baps .....SPA was good too. Refurb has replaced tired sagging seats with sturdy, high, leather seating near entrance while leaving the eating area at the back light and roomy. There's a Beer Festival first w/e in July....hope they have those baps!

6 Jun 2010 13:00

The Mayflower, Rotherhithe

3.90 for Guinness; 3.70 for Kronenbourg
At high tide you could get wet on the rear deck.

20 May 2010 10:39

The Alexandra, Wimbledon

Guinness at 3.85; 4.40 for 'cheapest' Scotch and ginger ale; miserable barman; pub cut in half for refurb - awful smell of spray paint made us drink up quick and leave. Avoid.

11 Apr 2010 07:53

The Brewery Tap, Wimbledon Village

Beer was ok, German Sky Sports too loud. Pub felt rather cramped.

4 Apr 2010 10:41

The Swan Tavern, West Wimbledon

Sports Bar. Can't sit anywhere without being near a TV screen showing Sky Sport. Big pub, large garden. Staff friendly.

4 Apr 2010 10:40

The Crooked Billet, Wimbledon Common

Feels more like a restaurant than a pub.

Staff seemed half asleep: asked for an Ordinary and barmaid started pulling Special.

Food looked way to expensive to even consider a snack - nearly 4 quid for a 'side' order of chips!

4 Apr 2010 10:38

The Hand In Hand, Wimbledon Common

Friendly greeting by staff, and a good drop of Special.

4 Apr 2010 10:33

The Fox and Grapes, Wimbledon Common

Larger inside than it seems from outside; Harveys Best went down well. Good pub.

4 Apr 2010 10:31

The Plough, Dulwich

Friday lunchtime and the place was packed with mums and their toddlers; the latter running around, banging on the furniture.

I have nothing against children in a pub; this was like a creche!

Landlord/Black Sheep not up to scratch despite barrel changes.

27 Mar 2010 17:19

The Kings Arms, Fitzrovia

Black Sheep was nice and went down well. The toilets are downstairs and seemed clean enough. Pub emptied out around 8pm, but it was a cold wet Feb mid-week evening I went. I'd pop back if in the area.

24 Feb 2010 10:34

The Royal Oak, Borough

A nice drop of Harveys Best, served by friendly staff who. Cheese sandwich on thick bloomer bread slices went down well too.

16 Feb 2010 13:08

The Opera House, Tunbridge Wells

I hope the refurb is completed soon - the front entrance is closed and so the disabled entrance must be used, and that was blocked by the nicotine-fiends, with the hallway stinking of smoke.
1.75 for a pint of Spitfire is a good reason to enter, and the heating was full on. Always seems to be busy, even at noon.

6 Feb 2010 13:53

The Compasses, Tunbridge Wells

Very busy Friday lunchtime, just about got a seat and near the real fire too! Staff naturally busy but assurances of being served soon were appreciated. Old Speckled Hen was good, as was the mature cheese sandwich.

6 Feb 2010 13:48

Trafalgar Freehouse, South Wimbledon

Way too crowded and loud on a Saturady afternoon to stay too long. Will go back when it's quieter...

22 Nov 2009 09:17

The Princess Royal, South Wimbledon

Hmm. OK. Has a large rear garden which you wouldn't expect from the outside. IPA was OK. Didn't stay long as locals seemed miffed we were occupying seats near the television.

22 Nov 2009 09:15

The Nelson Arms, South Wimbledon/Colliers Wood

Went in not expecting any bitter, but they had 2 (although 1 finished after the first round). Nice tapas too.

22 Nov 2009 09:13

The Prince of Wales, Merton

A huge improvement now the Kiwis have gone.

22 Nov 2009 09:11

The White Hart, Wood Street

It used to be a village pub that welcomed all. Now they don't want anyone with muddy boots and so have alienated hikers, walkers and horse riders. It is now a restaurant serving expensively arranged small portions of food, with less tables to sit at and a high bar to discourage standing there. 10pm on a Friday night and it is dead. Avoid. Let it go bust and be replaced by someone who knows how to run a pub.

22 Nov 2009 09:10

The Halfway House, Brenchley

August Bank Holiday Beer Festival now under way with 50 beers at 2.80 a pint and a spit-roasted beef or pork bap for 4.50. There's also a bbq and live music. The festival garden is adults only and there's another garden area, separated by trees, for families, with slides and the like for the kiddies.

30 Aug 2009 07:10

The White Lion of Mortimer, Mitcham

Actually, when this pub was called the Buck's Head its only attraction was the stripper on a Sunday lunchtime....

Now it's a large, uncomfortable, awful place with bad service and full of drunks who've been in there since opening time.

Avoid.

22 Mar 2006 14:46

The Kings Arms, Mitcham

Since the beer is about a pound a pint dearer than the Wetherspoon's opposite, you'd wonder why so many people go to the King's Arms.

It's simple really. The beer is good quality, the staff are friendly and the place is a lot more comfortable.

22 Mar 2006 14:43

The White Lion of Mortimer, Mitcham

This pub is a dump.

22 Mar 2006 14:41

The Crown, Mitcham

The two bars are quite separate, so if you don't want to watch football on one of the two screens, you can go to the quieter bar.

Handy location, being next to the Mitcham tram stop.

22 Mar 2006 14:39

Ye Olde Clock Tower, Croydon

Named after the nearby clock factory, the pub goes back to the days when the area was Croydon Common and this was called the Old Mail Coach.

It now regularly shows Sky Sports on a large screen, and sells naff bitter.

22 Mar 2006 14:34

The Fishermans Arms, Croydon

Oh dear. The new landlords are trying hard, but this pub does get more than its fair share of trouble-makers. Sometimes the place looks like it's been scripted for Eastenders.

The Fullers ESB has, of late, been excellent.

22 Mar 2006 14:25

The Kings Arms, Wandsworth

An efficient landlady helps one to ignore the high prices of the food, e.g. 7.50p for the club sandwich. The Special can be variable, shame they don't have the St. George's Ale, which Youngs are right to be proud of.

Looking forward to the summer and the improvements being done to the large garden at the back!

22 Mar 2006 14:22

The Grapes, Wandsworth

A nice little traditional pub near the Young's brewery. The Special was in good form. The landlord and staff were friendly.

They also have a nice sewcluded garden area at the back, although the traffic noise of the Wandsworth one-way system is always present.

22 Mar 2006 14:19

The Crane, Wandsworth

I couldn't understand how they could get the Youngs Special to taste naff, bearing in mind that the brewery is across the road.

22 Mar 2006 14:15

The Huntsman, Eridge Green

Excellent location as it's next door to the railway station of Eridge. This line runs south to Uckfield and northwards to East Croydon, the trains are new and comfortable.

Also nearby are the Eridge Rocks, set in a nature reserve covering 40 hectares.

A small patio in the front and a large garden below provide ample space on warmer days, the inside being small. Food was good too, and varied.

22 Mar 2006 14:11

The Hopbine, Matfield

On the corner of the lane into Petteridge, near Matfield in Kent, this small pub is popular with the locals. Beers served include Badger and Fursty Ferret.

During the week it closes at 2.30pm, but is always busy, and serves good food.

A good stopping point if walking the area, as it lies between Matfield and Brenchley.

A real hopbine can been seen above the bar.

22 Mar 2006 13:46

The Padwell Arms, Seal

Lovely pub in Kent countryside overlooking apple and pear orchards. Halfway between Godden Green and Ivy Hatch, east of Sevenoaks. Good stop for walks in the area.

I went on a Sunday afternoon and, although a sign says it shuts at 3pm, the landlord stayed open just for us.

Beer served included Badger, Fursty Ferret and London Pride.
