The Mitre, Richmond

The beer is in excellent condition. the stained glass windows are beautiful and rare these days. Look out for the hand-pumps; they are original Gaskell and Chambers beer engines. ( You can see the name on the brass-work when your pint is pulled) There are also regular music evenings held here

The Coombe Abbey Inn, Coventry

The last time I was in here, they sold draught Bass in perfect condition, but that was 35 years ago. Are there really no cask beers anymore? It seems an awful shame if it's true. I'll check it out next time I'm in Coventry

The White Swan, Twickenham

I was in The White Swan on Saturday and I'm pleased to see that the old photographs of the locals are back, along with the photographs of The Great Raft Race, the Rugby ephemera and the Country Life article on Twickenham Riverside ( which may have been there all along ), so don't be put off by the refurbishment; try it yourself and see

The White Swan, Twickenham

I miss the old photographs of the locals, on pig-raffle night ( or whatever they were doing ) and the collage photo's of the Great Raft Race. along with that double page spread from Country Life about Twickenham Riverside, but the pub has survived with it's internal features intact. The disused 1970's bar area hasn't been touched; the original varnish around the mirrorred shelves is still there, so I don't understand these vitriolic comments. The beer also happens to be perfect. Am I missing something here?

The Black Horse Inn, Clifton

A beautiful interior, with the emphasis on food.I'd come up from London and found it by chance. I had the Black Sheep Bitter, which was on fine form. Clifton is a lovely spot, with gorgeous stone buildings. Well worth a visit.

The Painters Arms, Luton

I travelled from London with a friend just to photograph the exterior of the pub, expecting it to be boarded up, but far from it. The lights were on, the doors were open ,so we went inside and found an incredibly well preserved interior, with a succession of interconnected wood- panelled rooms surrounding the bar, including a tiny snug. There is a well preserved mosaic on the floor at the entrance to the pub, some beautiful tile work on the fireplaces and original etched and stained glass windows throughout the pub. There's no cask beer, but I don't just go into pubs for that. I noticed that the local Camra newsletter was on display, so it doesn't put them off.

The Fox, Twickenham

I was in the re-opened Fox yesterday and was very impressed. The vestibule at the entrance is still there and the inspection door to the old beer engines under the counter hasn't been touched, ( it still opens ) The old rotting lino has gone and English Heritage are going to be overseeing the entire restoration. To top it all, the Twickenham beers are back and they are on magnificent form, so I think the pub is safe now.

The Angel in the Fields, Bond Street

I forgot to add The Red Lion in Kingly street. Once you get your eye in, you can spot them a mile off.

The Angel in the Fields, Bond Street

The Angel is one of the few remaining Henekeys pubs, with most of it's interior intact. Others to seek out are The Lyceum, Strand, The Earl of Lonsdale, Ladbroke Grove/Portobello Road and the magnificent Cittie of York, High Holborn - this was their H.Q.
Does anyone know any other London survivors?

Browns Cafe Bar, Coventry

I always call into Browns when I'm in Coventry, as it's the best modern bar in town. The architecture and design is fantastic and picks up on all the 1950's architecture that Coventry is known for. There's a great selection of drinks and I've always found the bar-staff really friendly, so I'm puzzled by all the negative comments. I'm going there today, so it'll be interesting to see if I get stopped at the door.

The Watermans Arms, Richmond

It should be good in here tonight. It's full moon and that brings out all the nutters. I'd advise you to book your seat!

The White Cross, Richmond

I don't know who you are, but to feel cold in this pub,you must be really thin. A simple solution would be to dress appropriately for Winter, or if you really don't like the pub, use another one - dead simple. Everyone else in the pub seems to love it

The Jamaica Wine House, Bank

Having read the alarming reports about the interior being ripped out, I went to see the damage with a heavy heart only to find that the place is intact and exactly the same as the last time I visited. The only thing that has gone is the old telphone kiosk that used to be just inside the main entrance, on the left. It had gold lettering above the door that said "For Stock Exchange Members Only" It was a direct line to the stock exchange. The kiosk is still there but there's a wooden panel in place of the old glass panel.
So ignore the recent comments, they must have been posted by disgruntled customers trying to cause mischief
