The Foresters Arms, Loughton

The Foresters Arms is one of my favourite pubs in Loughton.

It’s situated at the top of a hill and has seating at the front which overlooks the forest and seating at the back suitable for lazy Sundays in the summer.

It has excellent beers with a guest craft ale which changes regularly and a menu of locally sourced ingredients.

The interior is quirky with a number of taxidermy pieces as well as an open fire. Feels more like you’re in trendy East London that Essex.

Plume Of Feathers, Loughton

The Plume of Feathers is a large chain pub owned by Ember Inns.

It’s cheap and cheerful on every level, as are the regulars.

It isn’t really near anything, other than a Homebase and a petrol station, and I wouldn’t feel the need to make a special trip to visit.

The Gardeners Arms, Loughton

The Gardeners Arms is at the top of a hill and is a lovely pub on the edge of the forest, although outdoor seating is limited to few tables out the front. Open fire in the winter and decent food all year round. Definitely one to seek out.

The Royal Standard, Loughton

Has re-opened as The Standard once again, however is less of a pub and more of a restaurant.

As a restaurant it seems quite nice and the food looks good but I wish it had re-opened as a much needed pub on the high street.

The Hollybush, Loughton

The Hollybush is the main pub on the high street. On Saturday nights it gets busy with twenty somethings so expect bouncers on the door.

Primarily stocks McMullen beers which I am not a massive fan of. I’ve never eaten in there but the food looks fine.

Not a bad place to watch the football on a Saturday afternoon.

The Last Post, Loughton

The Last Post is the local Wetherspoons.

As ‘Spoons’ go it’s not too bad. They have some great beers on at very reasonable prices, sometimes as low as £1.99 a pint.

Expect the smell of chips and vinegar to hit you as soon as you walk in.

The Victoria Tavern, Loughton

The Victoria Tavern is the best centrally located pub in Loughton.

It’s a short walk past the cottages of Forest Road and on the edge of the forest.

Excellent beers, good food and a roaring fire. It’s the pub that the Loughton locals are proud to drink in and thus gets very busy on a Saturday night.

It very much has the feel of a country pub.

The Black Deer, Loughton

The Black Deer is a pub that is more like a community centre than a cosy watering hole. The beers are limited so expect Fosters and Carling as standard.

Clientele is very local and not really the friendly type. They have a small garden out the front with seating, however there is a sign stating ‘Garden Closed’ which hangs from a sad looking child’s swing set which is no longer in use.

Inside there is a pool table, fruit machines and a projector showing the football at weekends.

Not great.

The Eleanor Arms, Bow

Not particularly welcoming from the exterior however please don't let this put you off as a welcome is what you'll get as soon as you walk in the door.

A great landlord and real ales on tap. Everything a British pub should be.

The Prince of Wales, Ilford

This is my local and possibly the greatest pub in the world!! Here are 10 reasons why;

1. They have a juke box which plays things from Oasis to Bob Marley to Deftones!
2. They have a plasma screen outside so in the summer you can stand or sit in the sun and watch the football
3. They have an outside pool table
4. They have a dartboard
5. They have a quiz machine
6. They have 2 dogs who are very friendly and beautiful
7. As soon as I walk in there is a pint on the go for me and a cheery hello.
8. They have a quiz night which they run for charity
9. It's a West Ham pub although you wont be treated different if you dont support the Hammers (but i do)
10. It's a proper local where you can have a great night with friends or chatting to the other locals.
