Got there early one lunchtime. Sunny day in the summer, quickly got busy. Sat in the garden at the back with views over the filds and had a decent cold cider and the best steak sandwich I have had for some time. Looking at how others faired, meals big, side portion of chips huge, long waits when busy, staff not too happy but good beer and good food.
TIP Get there early!!!

Changed hands recently (April) made the pub into a less relaxing space but more like a pub having painted over alot of the dark wood and put in wooden tables and chairs. The comfy bit is in the front hallway!!Got a posh restaurant attached now where you can eat (Bit pricey but good food)

Clearly every good pub has a bad day. We went on a Friday evening and there was a party of 16 in the restaurant. It was so noisy that we had to be asked to be moved after the main course as we couldn't hear ourselves think! The staff moved us efficiently and immediateley but... The bread basket had fur pieces of bread for four of us, the outside was warm but the middle was very cold (Microwaived out of the freezer I would guess) The starters we ordered never arrived, apologies were prefuse and we were given free sweets as an apology. It took us nearly an hour to get our main course, one of the orders had been misheard amid the noise and was wrong and had to be returned. The pheasant was not cooked. We sent it back to the kitchen and the chef sent it back to the table saying that he could cook it some more but it was supposed to be pink...it wasn't pink it was translucent and raw. The home made burger was overcooked and dry. Loads of chips and bread but not many 'fresh home sourced vegatables!' The pub was clearly popular and I think we just got them on a bad day. There were too many customers and not enough staff. Everyone was really apologetic about the mistakes but whilst we understood - it is no excuse. They said they hoped we would come again....Sadly I think not. They need more staff if they are going to remain ahead of the game
