The Magnet, Stockport

I can't believe people have given this pub a low rating, In my opinion the joint best pub in Stockport (with the Crown).14 very well kept real ales, 3 draught continental lagers, draught real cider or perry and a full menu of bottled continental/US beers and ciders. The decor is good (the room at the back is going to be renevated soon) My better half likes this pub far more than the Crown and does not feel uncomfortable if she arrives first and has to sit on her own for a while. Likewise I'll quite happily go in for a pint or two on my own.
The staff are very friendly and will help you with your selection. A good colour coding system on the chalk board makes choosing easier. If you're ever in Stockport don't automatically head for the Crown, this pub is well worth a visit, you will not be dissapointed.

The Fox Inn, New Mills

A perfect small(ish) traditional country pub and as good a pint of Robinson's Unicorn as you'll get. We were with locals so obviously finding it wasn't a problem but it's a stunning walk up to the pub. We had kids with us and it was no problem whatsoever with friendly staff and customers. Real fire which was welcome on a January afternoon. Can't wait to visit this pub again.

The Wickstead Arms, Nantwich

I thought this was a great atmosphere pub with some characters around the bar. The beer was on top form but I can't remember whose it was...... I'd been in a few by then. My only slight problem with this pub was it was too brightly lit. I wouldn't let that put you off though, well worth a visit if you like proper pubs.

The Vine Inn, Nantwich

A proper pub with good form Hydes beers. A locals pub but welcoming to strangers. Nice real fire which was welcome on the day we visited.

The Red Cow, Nantwich

We thought this pub was a gem. Very Olde World but in a charming way. Hand pulled Robinsons beers as good as any you'll get outside of Stockport. A great pub to sit, read the paper and take in the atmosphere. Friendly staff and locals.

The Crown Hotel, Nantwich

We were disappointed with this pub (not the hotel). We thought it was scruffy (not quaint), a bit rough and very cold. Had two pints, a bitter from Stoke and a Flowers IPA. They both tasted the same which was odd. Not very nice either and I usually like the IPA. Couldn't fault the bar staff though (except the cellar man)

The Black Lion, Nantwich

A few people had told me about this pub. I went in on a cold Saturday afternoon and had a well kept pint of Cheshire Cat. I thought this was a fantastic pub with friendly staff, excellent beer and a very relaxing atmosphere (roaring fire no less). In fact I enjoyed it so much I went back later in the evening with my partner and she loved the place as well. This was our favorite pub that we visited in Nantwich.

The Hole int' Wall, Bowness on Windermere

Not a bad pub at all if you can get a seat, in fact an American friend of mine described it as "a perfect English pub" I wouldn't go that far but it is very traditional pub with low ceilings ang stone flagged floors. Most of the Robinsons range is on offer, fairly well kept. Gets very crowded during the season but you'll still get served fairly quickly. Good beer patio at the front and sometimes has live music. This is where the speed boaters (or ex speed boaters) tend to hang out so it can be a bit yuppified.

Mariners, Bowness on Windermere

It may be a locals pub, what's wrong with that? Visitors are more than welcome in here. We think this is the best pub in Bowness and we are very frequent visitors.
This pub has a good atmosphere and fairly well kept Jennings beers. It's small and cosy really. Late bar down stairs (small entrance fee)and we've seen some excellant rock/blues bands there.
A real pub, not just for the tourists.

Jolly Sailor, Stockport

This pub is my local but we wont go in it.
Has an aggressive atmosphere, rude bar staff (not all of them)bland food, uninspiring beer collection. Very keen to throw you out on the dot and very very smokey.
It does have a good patio at the back for the summer and is caters fairly well for the disabled (ramp at back, toilets).
OK for under 25's but not for overs.

The Jug and Jester, Leamington Spa

A good place to spend a Saturday afternoon/early evening with a relaxed atmosphere. Wooden floor boards ans bric a brac type of pub. Tends to be a youngish crowd but we didn't feel out of place or unwelcome when we returned later on, Close to some Curry houses as well.

Bowling Green, Leamington Spa

We really liked this pub. OK so we're a couple of old mates meeting up for some beers in a strange town but this pub was just what we were looking for. Friendly, well kept, interesting range of beers. A great pub where you can sit and natter and drink in a relaxing atmosphere. Really good bar staff as well. Not the cleanest of places but that isn't really what I look for in a good pub. I'd go there again if I ever found myself in Leamington Spa again
