Three reviews within 5 minutes of each other from 3 users for whom this is their one and only review...pure coincidence I'm sure!

probably related to the drivel thats being written on another pub in bourne end at the moment

Dukes Head, Hatfield Broad Oak
Went here a few months ago before the current owners took over and the food was appalling. Now pleased to say the difference is massive - really good food, good service and a couple of nice well kept beers on. Recommended.

Tweedies Bar at Dale Lodge Hotel, Grasmere
Lots of good beer, friendly service, nice (if pricey) food and well done up inside (more room since they've moved the bar back). All in all the best place for a drink in Grasmere

Wainwrights Inn, Great Langdale
Top beer, but really busy - difficult to get a seat at peak times - and the food is unimpressive
18 Jul 2010 22:52
Have stayed here a couple of times - always good beers on here, and excellent in good weather as you can sit outside. Small inside though, so unless you've booked you might be in for a cramped wait! Food is quite expensive.
18 Jul 2010 22:50
Not sure why anyone would go here...always seems full so you can't get a seat, but looking at the food I don't think you'd want to. Many better places in Ambleside to go to
18 Jul 2010 22:47
The plus points - always a range of good well kept beers in my opinion. Ermm..can't think of any others.
On the downside, its not particulary nice inside, seems to be always full of people waiting for tables, and the food looks average microwaved pub food at best.
All in all, worth going into if you fancy a nice local beer and aren't too fussy about anything else
18 Jul 2010 22:44
Best pub in terms of atmosphere in Ambleside - always friendly, and a good place if you just fancy a drink or two. Never seems to be too busy either, well recommended
18 Jul 2010 22:40
friendly service from all the staff, and a couple of real ales on, Food not too bad, I think it was all home cooked as well. Handy for anyone at the Portesham campsite.
On the downside, some of the inside decor is a bit tacky, and might seem a bit too 'touristy' for some.
18 Jul 2010 22:34
top quality beer brewed here, a good atmosphere although it can get really busy. Make sure you try a metre of beer here, and the fat sandwiches go down a treat when you've had a few
15 Jul 2010 19:32
Agree with the previous comments, a good selection of local ales, and friendly efficient service. The best pub in Fort William, although to be fair that isn't saying a lot...

Good selection of local ales, plus friendly service. The only downside here appears to be the food, which has gone downhill since our last trip last year...half the menu turned out to be unavailable, and the food that was available wasn't cooked particularly well.
Get a decent chef and this could be a really good pub.

bland, poorly cooked food, no decent beer when I was there, and everything was just untidy. Waste of a good location
3 May 2010 17:37
Went in here for the first time in years, and other than a tasteful refurb, the pub is still as I remember- i.e. excellent. A good choice of beers straight from the barrel, and if you what you want from a pub is good beer in good surroundings with a good atmosphere then this is one for you

A good pub; I thought it might be a bit too 'local', but it was friendly enough and the beer was in good condition.Definitely the best pub in Padstow

The Bryn Tyrch Hotel, Capel Curig
Really good food, plus some nice welsh ales. It does seem to get a bit hot inside on occasions, but other than that it's definitely worth a visit

I can confirm the previous comment - somewhere you come to eat rather than drink. The food is ok, but not great - standard chain bistro-pub fayre. They generally have a couple of real ales on, but really does feel more like a restaurant than a pub.

The Crown Hotel, Blandford Forum
I quite enjoyed it in here - the beer was fine, and the service was ok. It does lack a bit of atmosphere though

Have been back following the change of owners, and can report that all is still well, a good range of beers and a friendly welcome

The White Lion, Sawbridgeworth
The previous review was certainly not unresearched, but in fairness I did pay another visit. An effort is definitely being made, and generally a bit better than last time...but still a fair distance from being a decent pub

Excellent range of beers, always worth a visit to see what guest beers are on. This is the ideal place to spend an evening if you like decent beer and a good friendly atmosphere. The august beer festival is a must!

very quiet for early evening on a saturday, but friendly staff, and reasonably friendly dog! Only the master brew on, more choice of ales would be nice, but overall a good friendly pub for non-locals
6 Sep 2009 21:06
Exactly what you'd expect from a pub in this location catering for walkers, climbers and the like. Quite a few good beers on, but a poor selection on the food front, and not particularly well cooked. A few signs that it is trading on a captive market from the nearby campsite plus the lack of competition from any pubs in Glencoe.
Could be much better with a bit of effort
21 Jul 2009 22:08
Agree with the positive comments, one of the few pubs in this area which is worth a second visit. beer is well kept, and the atmosphere is friendly, if quiet when we were in
21 Jul 2009 22:01
Reasonable choice of beers, and the food was above average pub food, served efficiently. It did seem to get quite crowded at times, so may be worth booking ahead if eating.
Seems to be about the best place in Aviemore, and certainly a step up from the Winking Owl
21 Jul 2009 21:58
Fantastic location, and a nice atmosphere inside. The lunchtime food was reasonably good, and the evening meals looked ok, although we didnt eat in the evening.
Good range of beers, and a friendly drunk at the bar willing to talk to anyone

The Applecross Inn, Applecross
Came here following a number of good reviews, but overall not that impressed. Although there were a number of seafood dishes displayed on the menu, most were unavailable, leaving fish and chips as just about the only fish/shellfish dish remaining! Amusing to see a Basil Fawlty clone attempt to take the orders for a party of 15 next to us!
On the plus side the beer is good, the drive to the Applecross peninsula is great, and the views are good, but overall, not quite as good as we'd been led to believe.

The Horseshoe Hotel, Egton Bridge
Wide selection of beer, proper home cooked food and friendly pets! Definitely worth a visit
21 Jul 2009 21:46
Good beer, good whisky selection, good atmosphere. A shame there's no garden, as that would have rounded things off nicely, but otherwise an excellent pub

There should really be more pubs like this. Top beer in a good location, friendly place - a treat especially on a summer afternoon!

The White Lion, Sawbridgeworth
pretty dire pub, expensive and the staff really arent up to much
8 Dec 2008 20:58
A good range of local beers, friendly service and reasonably good food. Quite animal friendly, and accessibility is good for those of us with very short legs

The Hoops Inn, Much Hadham
Now refurbished very nicely inside, but very much a place to eat rather than to pop in for a pint or two. The food is pretty good to be fair (although not top notch) but only one proper beer on - Adnams bitter.
Should be nice in the summer though, when you'll be able to sit outside
