This pub is one of the best, if not the best, in london. Always a mild, always a cider, and always around 6 impeccably kept ales. A good mix of people, friendly, knowledgeable staff, and regular live jazz. A bit out of the way but well worth seeking out.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon in Summer. It was very busy - queue out of the door for service. Were serving landlord, broadside, and a JW Lees summer ale 'Scorcher'. Opted for the latter which was rather flavourless. The garden was very busy so had to stand next to a barrel where I was continually bumped into by toffee-nosed locals and surly staff carrying plates of unpleasant looking food. Quickly supped my pint and left. Will return in the winter when this place tends to pick up a bit. The very cheerful glass collecter gets a 10, the rest of the pub a 5.

I'll definitely remember this little gem for next time my train is delayed. A great selection of ales (plus the standard Fullers fare) - don't miss the ales at the far left of the bar like I did! Only noticed them on my way out. A good mix of people, students, old boys, commuters, tourists. It's a bit shabby, but that adds to the effect. Shame about the constant drone of the sky sports news presenters from the TVs. A great little pub.

CAMRA North London pub of the year? I don't see it myself. It's OK, the Bishop's Finger and Masterbrew I tried were decent enough, but there are a much better pubs than this in North London. They had some cheesy 80's music TV channel on while I was in there which didn't add much to the 'atmosphere'. Next time I'm in the area I'll go to the Head of Steam instead.

Large pub, nice pint of Adnams. Large garden out back. 2 TVs showing different sports events. Quite a mix of customers. Pubs this close to train stations always seem to attract a certain type of customer. Would go back if waiting for a train, but if you have time visit some of St Albans better pubs - the lower red lion, the farmers boy, the farriers arms, the garibaldi, for example.

The Three Horseshoes, Whetstone
Reopened on 23rd Feb after a major refurb. The place is at least twice as big as it used to be. No real ales on when I visited but there were 3 pumps so maybe once they get their act together they'll put some ale on. I counted 5 TV screens playing 80's and 90's music. This used to be a nice cosy local pub, is now a bit more trendy/crap. Is still possibly the best pub in Whetstone, due only to a lack of competition. A Shame.
