The Woodman, Highgate

Made my first visit recently and seems to have had a gastro refit; think it was previously more of a Mr Q's type of place.

Decent enough.

The Flask, Highgate

Charming pub with loads of little nooks and crannies and a good garden for the summer. Always has a couple of guest ales on, although one is usually off!

Food is pretty good, but can be hit and miss; got my order wrong last week and teh replacement was cold.

One major black mark is the guy who runs the place is always sullen and arsey. Yes, it's a small bar, yes it gets busy, but do a different job if you don't like it.

The Five Bells, East Finchley

Very average place. Food is good for how cheap it is.

Often show Man Utd games over Arsenal ones, despite teh latter being about three miles down the road which is a joke.

Gertie Brownes, East Finchley

Good pub for watching footie.

The Oxford, Kentish Town

Fairly good boozer with decent food. Chef wasn't very professional though - seemed to be snacking while he cooked in the open plan kitchen and the waitress quite openly nicked one of my chips!

The Flask, Highgate

Charming pub, like a village local in the heart of London. Victim of its own success though - nigh on impossible to secure an outside table in the summer.

The Angel, Highgate

Nice pub. Have been in a couple of times and always received friendly service. Lovely food too.

Rank toilets though.

The Old White Lion, East Finchley

Nice pub, but could be even better. The decor and music are good, but the service is pedestrian even in the middle of the afternoon and the toilets are always a state. Food is good, but portions are small and overpriced. Still the best pub in East Finchley though.

The Swan, Brentwood

Good boozer. Live music on a Sunday evening, large paved beer garden out back. Always has a couple of guest ales on. Friendly staff.

The Sugar Hut Village, Brentwood

Is a tad overpriced. May stick out a bit, but is better than the identikit chain bars like the Slug. Loads of comfy sofas and stuff.

Bar Fringe, Manchester

Erm, I didn't say the barmaid was rude, I was merely making an admittedly unfunny joke on a previous poster's comments referring to Camera (a piece of photographic equipment), rather than CAMRA, the real ale society. Bah.

BRB at The Gate, Alexandra Park

Went there before seeing The Streets at All Pally last Friday. Cool music, waaaaay fit barmaid, but nightmare getting served. Good place to meet if you're off to a gig at the Palace as it's just by the station.

The Lockside Lounge, Camden

Decent place. Went on a Sunday afternoon and had a nice bottle of wine and some cocktails while reading the papers. Smart and tidy without trying too hard. Would imagine it's better in the summer when you can drink outside.

I thought the camera never lies?! Maybe you mean CAMRA?!

Golden Lion, Romford

Been coming here since about 1998. Nothing particularly impressive about it, just a good, solid boozer far away enough from the main strip of Romford that it doesn't attract all the degenerates. Does the job.

Lounge, Chorlton cum Hardy

Never been there in my life, but I would guess the Pringles thing relates to a condition of its late licence being that it can only continue to serve alcohol with 'food'.

The Life Bar, Romford

Alongside Pacific Edge, the only place worth going post-pub in Romford. Slightly on the cheesy side, but not too bad.

Bar:me, Romford

Oh dear....

The Custom House, Romford

One of the more bearable venues in the cesspit that is Romford. Quiet in the week (to the extent that it sometimes closes early because no one is in there!), same as everywhere else on the weekend.

Amber, Soho

Well I quite like Amber. Expensive cocktails? You get what you pay for....Admittedly quiet in the week, but quite nice for a romantic drink or two...Good grub too...

Alphabet, Soho

Tad pricey, but you get what you pay for. Cracking cocktails in a chilled atmosphere.

Abacus, Bank

There is a corner of London that is forever Essex...

The Teriss Bar, Brentwood

They weren't Gucci loafers, they were 'plimsoles' as I was usefully informed by the brainiac on the door. Haven't even heard that word used since primary school PE c.1986!
