No idea why everyone keeps going on about the price of food here, as I was more than happy to visit repeatedly on a trip to Noss Mayo in February of this year. I only tried one beer, the very locally made Church Ledge, which I liked so much that I never tried anything else. Where we stayed meant that we had to walk past the Swan to get to the Ship and the former was always shut or completely empty and the latter full and bustling, even in February. simonali68 - 11 Apr 2015 02:13 |
Called in here again whilst doing a bit of the SW Coast path. Didn't really intend to stop (we'd brought our lunch in a backpack) but it's simply the sort of pub you can't just walk past! We sat on the patio overlooking the creek and admiring the views. I had a pint of Tribute which was as good as ever and we resisted the temptation to eat - although the sandwiches in the backpack seemed to lose some of their appeal by the bowls of moules being served to the next table! This is a lovely pub in a lovely setting. Not sure I'd ever eat there again unless I come into an inheritance, but for beauty, charm atmosphere and location it's just impossible to beat. Could have stopped longer but the sandwiches were calling so we set off and began the long climb out of the village. Grumpy_Old_Man - 6 Jul 2013 18:30 |
Fantastic setting. Beer well kept and a good selection. Food very nice but very expensive for a pub despite the view. No locals to be seen only people up for the weekend staying at their 'weekend' cottage. Despite this and to be fair, the bar staff were very good at their jobs and the landlord knows how to run a pub so fair play. So lets not forget the beer. Very good. nickyboi45 - 6 Jul 2011 23:19 |
As to this pathetic complaint by miss_magoo2 (magoo, rings any bells?). I have been going to the Ship Inn for many years. I live in SE Cornwall and take the Torpoint Ferry to get to this FANTASTIC INN (paying 1.50 for the privilege). The bar man is human and may have made a grave mistake (we all do at times). Maybe you should have checked the bill again to make sure before leaving and this fuss would not have happened. It is so common and easy for people to complain but to accuse people of trying to do you out of 10? For that money, it is hardly worth it. "Stole" is a very serious accusation! :s I have always found the pub to serve quality food and friendly service over the years and it is very popular. As to prices, you are in an afluent area of the South Hams, prices are higher as you are getting a premium product. I will not be put off by this complaint and to anyone who is thinking of going to the Ship Inn, go because you will love the atmosphere and food!!! grikka01 - 25 Mar 2011 11:09 |
This pub is shocking! I went for a meal with my family and paid for a round of drinks at the bar. The bar tender wrote these drinks down and so i asked to make sure that they would not appear on the bill as i had already paid for them. he assured me that they wouldn't. My boyfriend also asked to double check. ........one VERY expensive meal later (not worth the money, you are purely paying for the view)..... a few days later i found the receipts (my mother in law had paid and therefore had not checked the bill) we had been charged for the drinks!!! I phoned the pub and i believe spoke to the manager to whom i explained why i was phoning. I was spoken to like i was lying and trying to pull a fast one! I was told to send a copy of the receipts and only if she could find the evidence on the till roll would i get my money back. She was very rude and non apologetic! This wasn't a great deal of money 10 or so but out of principle i did as asked and sent a copy of the receipts along with a letter explaining things. A few days later i recieved a cheque for the exact amount (to the penny!) along with the photocopy that i had sent. there was not a letter, there was no apology or even a 'with compliments' slip! Considering they 'stole' my money (if we had walked out not paying then im sure they would have contacted the police!) would have thought a sorry could be the least they could have done and if they are going to be so 'exact' about the money then they owe me for the envelope, the stamp, the photocopying......and my time!!! The question is how often do they do this???? a good little money earner for them?????? if you go here - check what you have paid for! miss_magoo2 - 20 Mar 2011 08:38 |
