| Wednesdays are usually a midweek treat. The kids go to Brownies for two hours while we parents go to the Golden Lion for a meal and a couple of bottles of wine. As teachers this is a little decadent but we all need a release. Tonight we visited the pub to find that, to quote the person we tried to complain to, 'the food had been standardised.' Actually the food was, to be honest, dreadful. We were told that burgers no longer came with salad (save for a token lettuce leaf in the dry bun) and that only one sauce was available to each customer. Steaks were over cooked, salad was scarce, the chips were 'soggy' (yak), no cream with the chocolate fudge cake, obligatory 'bullet' peas. Every diner in the pub was unhappy. The only person that was interseted in our complaints was the waitress. If you took the time to investigate the standards at The Golden Lion, it would quickly become obvious by the numerous complaints of reasonable people who have been regular customers. This is our local pub and we have been good customers but we fear that we will be sacrificed in order for the ease of product and the dreaded 'standardisation of product,' god help us. martin - 7 Jul 2004 22:41 |
