Also on BITE as 'The Regent', which is its actual name - the Prince Regent was its name under former landlords. BobsHarmonica - 26 Nov 2009 17:52 |
Agree with planner_21. I spent an hour talking with a local postman. Its a local and I don't think they want it to be a boozer, but they have the right attitude that is being a friendly place to have a drink, maybe a meal (no pressure) and the jukebox is great (Type in 1801 on a regular basis). secretdrinker - 13 Feb 2009 08:38 |
I don't agree that it's more "restaurant than a boozer". They do serve food (pizzas last time I looked) but it still feels like a pub and so far I've only drunk in there. The decor was more pub-like before but after it closed, it became some sort of cafe and got stripped out. I'd like it to be a little warmer (in a decor sense) but overall still quite like it here. I can't entirely agree with davidb. Yes it serves food but at what is really a basic "need to get some food down me" level. It is not a restaurant (unlike Barnsbury next door). Yes they tend to serve fancy lagers and wine but I should point out that the pub here before which served good ales (sometimes) failed. It is horses for courses and the lunch trade is the best I have seen since it ever, and I have worked here for 20 years. We are in Islington and I think they've got it about right for the area. secretdrinker - 20 Feb 2008 09:02 |
Good to see it open again, but now more of a restaurant than a boozer. Fancy lagers are the only option, but the surroundings are pleasant. I preferred the previous incarnation when it was still a pub, but worth a try if you're in the area. davidb - 15 Feb 2008 17:14 |
